KIA Stinger GT Review - A Surprisingly Fun Ride!

ever come out of South Korea the reason they say that is the Hyundai Genesis Coupe I think was a good first step the Kia singer had a Steven Tyler commercial that was a little over traumatic it played during the Superbowl and everybody said what is that there's even a Kia stinger store in the mall of Georgia they are going after this car like nobody's business Kia wants everyone to know what they got with this thing Kia's stinger is kind of the answer to say a BMW 3-series and does it do well surprisingly yes okay what we have 3.3 liter twin-turbo v6 there's also a four-cylinder option but let's just skip over that we're all did a good stuff twin turbo v6 is really awesome and it makes a kind of add roadie little noise I don't know if this car would be that great with exhaust but other than that the quad exhaust the diffuser in the back the Kia singer is a beautiful car and almost every way if you look at the side profile the owner of this car said wow it kind of looks like a Panamera and I'm like oh my god you're right I can't believe I'm saying that about a Kia eventually the advantage of having this car is that there's many you can get a lifetime warranty with this thing tell you my favorite thing about the Stinger so far is the interior the interior blows me away for this price point I have to say I thought this was going to be a cheap crappy little interior with a nice pretty body on it and I was wrong now don't get me wrong the radio itself right here does look a little Kia ish I don't know if that's a fair adjective to use but it does look a little cheap but everything else this stitching the materials I could like caress everything it has brushed aluminum all over it the steering wheel is flat bottom it feels like an Audi steering wheel with the right materials at 9 and 3 it puts you in this amazing seating position or you just want to drive this card makes you just want to drive and I think that's what they were going for I actually drove this car at an autocross in SEMA and I got maybe three minutes of seat time but I wanted to drive it on the street because it's the street it's where it really counts in my opinion alright so it has a 8-speed automatic transmission and before you go over to the sick I think they aid speed with this suits the car I think it presents it with the Grand Touring mindset Kia back in 2011 revealed a concept for this car essentially they in Vail Dan everyone said there's no way they're gonna build that because it's keel and they had a bad rep they really did struggle with a bad reputation but now everything's different and they went for it and I'm proud of them for building the Kia sticker GT also comes with Michelin Pilot Sport tires stock with 250 fives all the way around that is absurd it has big brake Brembos front and back and it's a Kia I keep having to say and it's a Kia because it's so shocking to me you officially live in the coolest time ever of cars we have hybrids that are the fastest car in the world and now we have the South Korean company is actually doing something cool okay all right wow he got up to speed oh oh okay thanks you also have paddle shifters at any time you can turn on it's like six different modes personally sports mode is my favorite because it really has that bottom and torque ready to go the 8-speed auto never feels confused it kind of always feels like it knows exactly what it wants which is what I was scared of a lot of these companies are doing these big gears like 9 speed 10 speed trans and you're like okay is that necessary you're just trying to show off right but with that it gives this car 25 miles to the gallon highway and that's not too bad for 365 horsepower now this car also goes 0 to 60 with launch control under five seconds once again pretty ridiculous it's weird because it is kind of a big car but it really Dorf s-- once you get behind the wheel no one gripe I have is not the Pinstripe on the side but at the end of the Pinstripe they put this big jarring Kia Sport kind of badge on it and it's like I just want to take a hairdryer or he could just peel that thing off so fast but pinstripe itself doesn't look that the color on this car though looks like a normal black but it has a little bit of flake it and I noticed as well and that makes it really stand out markable how easy this car is to drive fast because it's quiet doesn't scare you just get on it the / impose instantly slow you down backseat is surprisingly roomy you could fit an adult back there no problem it's not one of those gimmicks or where they go we have a back seat but it doesn't fit anybody it does fit people like the back of the car I think is my favorite the front headlights are super aggressive and they're shaped in a way that's really interesting and the internals the headlights look really complicated right with all the daytime running lights and things like that the front grille the bottom grille look good they just have a little too much honeycomb for my taste but no the front of it looks really aggressive especially in black I haven't seen one of these cars in this dark of a color so it looks really nice a lot of people get it in red and the blue so this is my first I've seen one with the darker color there's a bunch of different options for this car you can get the lane detection you have a nav you have the option of getting the 4-cylinder which is a lot cheaper which is more like the base model the Kia singer even has an all-wheel drive model but this is the rear-wheel drive model and personally I've been in both briefly and I think the rear one is a little more fun and just like that it was a go dang ok we're up to speech I love about it is that you get on the brakes the brakes are really really responsive it has that little bit of delay that it grabs and you can trail brake really easy on them as well what I haven't talked about yet is the Vince all over the car now first I'll just get out of the way the hood Vince do not work all the other vents work front vents on the front bumper that bring cool air to the brakes so they cool them down and then they fit out again through these vents right near the door so that's really cool that they have functional vents and they have vents in the back and the rear bumper that looked cool but also do do anything so it's like instead of me criticizing it for not having any functional pants it's like me criticizing it for being 50% about that life it's cool that at least some of them work and it it brings more styles of car totally does it's a very pretty car like I said before and all the gills and bits and everything really add to it maybe that's why they call it the stinger because it kind of looks like a stingray Oh God Wow do that okay like it's not so much like you know it's definitely fast but like at the same time it's just really controllable but what impresses me more is the fact that there was no slip like no spinning it felt almost all-wheel drive how launched I was on the side of the exit ramp making sure nobody was there we did it and I was blown away that was really fun I feel like I wouldn't want to do that at every stop I know it's not good most launch controls are really dramatic and this one isn't but its dramatic in a different way of more of a surprise because you hook up but also when you get ready to go and you mat your foot on the brake just like any other Longy control and then put your foot all the way down the car does this little buck and builds boost and holds it like right at 2500 rpm and it just sends it because I thought it was gonna be you know on the screen launch control ready and then just like lalala you know it just gradually goes like this no it just goes BAM when I was thinking about this review I was thinking of a good analogy for the Kia Stingaree Kia in general Kia 10 years ago was when he went to Hertz or Enterprise or whatever rental agency when you're on your trip and you vouched for the Nissan or the Ford Fusion or whatever you wanted and they were like oh I'm sorry sir all we have left is the Kia and he said really do you have anything else I would compare this to the Maserati Ghibli now I know that sounds weird but the Maserati Ghibli I drove during adventure drives in September and it was an utter piece of crap and you could argue that Kia might have some few cheap aterial parts but the Maserati didn't have the excuse it had Dodge Dart interior parts from the window switches to the center console to a cheap plastic trim the interior is nicer than a maserati ghibli in almost every way and the steering wheel is better I'd rather drive this at 120 miles an hour on the Autobahn than that car I'm gonna bring the question off to you guys what do you guys think about the Kia sticker from somebody who's not been in one from somebody who's been one let me know in the comment section below I'm really curious because I think this is one of those cars that will make or break Kia if they took a big risk doing this bringing in designers from other companies like BMW and bringing it with that South Korean flavor having all of this torque and horsepower in a car that you would just never think I mean this motor is strong you feel it runs real good the car rides great and I could literally talk about it all day it's just an interesting exercise that kia has done and it also will show in the end if a brand can leave a cheap car stigma behind overselling it may be but I'm telling you I think it's a great overall car for its price point I don't think it's something to blink your eye at make your own judgement with it for sure give it a chance I know it's the badge but give it a chance and you'll have a lot of good times oh yeah
