The OG of YouTube Offers Recovery Points to Athletes at Hell's Gate Demolition Derby
At the upcoming Hell's Gate demolition derby, athletes will have the opportunity to earn recovery points based on their performance. The rules are simple: if an athlete has backed up Hell's Gate, they receive 10 points in their record. However, if an athlete has a Cummins powered record or has recently broken a bunch of transfer cases, they receive 10 points for each of those achievements. Athletes who have the best looking and coolest judges also earn an extra 7 or 13 points.
The judges do not have to agree on scores, as each judge has their own scoring sheet. for so we're gonna have to widen this we're actually going to be widening this one full inch so we're building a jig here so that we can get a whole bunches of Bunches of of these of angle iron so they're ready for the next step I'm gonna bring the table in and get it all cleaned off so Lizzy got 30 something of these cut that should be enough to do five Wheels this is how they go this is how we're spacing these internal bead locks out now Lizzie's just gonna weld these in sounds good I'm gonna get the welder set up I would tack all four of these I think this is gonna work I saw it on the will probably happen on that cement pad right over there we got to find a place for the dyno because it's going to have a nice big flat surface the dead pole will be down where that gray truck is right there so you'll be able to stand on this Hillside and look down and watch them pull the vehicles there should be sand flying it'll be awesome it'll be over there by those things all the way to the road okay we're back it's the next day Tom's here we're back on these we're gonna get this mounted up proof of concept for the spare tire if it works then we're going to do all the ones on the today and verify inventory has got to be loaded that goes back to the casters Jody will be in to help with that later today go get that big tire out there I need both beads of it cleaned I need all the water out of it clean it up right here got all the water around a bit and just put some rags in there soaked it up so since these bead locks were for a different wheel we already talked about that we had to make them wider and we've got to make them slightly bigger around so this is the original strap this is the new strap this goes right here and this lets us make them the right diameter for our application it's not rocket science it's record science all right one thing we want to do here is make sure that everything is completely clean okay you need to find a paintbrush Matt's using brake cleaner though that's going to strip it down yeah how's that working good got some cotton candy here PVC flavor mmm so what we've done here is we built ourselves a thing to help us do this other thing so this is a tire ceiling goo and it needs to go on here needs 100 coverage so you just put this on here like this we're just going to be painting this in here just like that so the reason Lizzy's so good at this is she grew up watching Bob Ross and so she knows there's no such things as mistakes just happy little accidents we don't make mistakes we have happy accidents well we've got to get this inside the tire we should have done that before we goofed it up yeah got ahead of myself I've actually never done these before and I've watched a couple of YouTube videos on it let me give you a YouTube tutorial the only YouTube tutorials out there are like this well what you're going to want to do is you're going to want to take this you're going to want to put it in a tire and put it then let's go see what's happening in the shop we got back from a huge job it turned into two jobs and we are out of time but there's still a ton of work to do to have this thing ready to go fast aired up to 15 pounds because it actually makes the Jeep look tougher because it lifts it up almost two inches from the standard eight or nine PSI we got out to a job it was too much we let some air out we did pretty good we're hitting like 5 PSI on all the tires 5 PSI is a little bit low lower than I like to run them it was great for the sand it was a nice ride the last time I meaningfully used the stick welder I was probably 12 years old we're gonna see how this goes we got our metal to weld we have Tom who's very critical of bad welding he's gonna point out my flaws how much have used music all the time I haven't will stick welded for a long time but that used to be all I had and so I did a bunch of it plus we have a spy from the other team all I do is stick welding that's all I mix in his pocket Trail judging work as a team on a scale of 22 to 78. smooth moves one to seven damage the towed vehicle one to eight oh that's not very much so what all you've got to do is work as a team forget about the vehicle works well with other drivers three to 23 looks cool does that mean if I'm getting towed by another driver that helps me you're working as a team yeah exactly that's really cool if your athlete fails to complete the trail deduct two points oh perfect extra credit do the shoot four points do the shoot while Towing your Isuzu 20 points so there's a lot there's 24 we got more in here Tate she's taking care of Judges judges shirts staff shirts it's a job we got Robert and Mallory over here they are handling our volunteer packets getting all that ready so we have all those packets getting ready we have Rhett getting the banana and the more Vero washed up get in while shiny for the show it's shiny enough they're off-road vehicles so they're gonna be dirt somewhere on them and then let's go see what's happening in the shop we got back from a huge job it turned into two jobs and we are out of time but there's still a ton of work to do to have this thing ready to go fast quitting time but nobody's going home we gotta finish right now we're working on putting these mirrors on the side one of our judging judges here hey guys we're trying to find a mirror bracket that Matt's building and built and I built it a second ago had it in my hand looks just like this it's been literally like three seconds and it's already lost you know you got a good it or we haven't needed it but I don't want to have to need it we don't know how hot it's getting but it's not blowing the radiator cap mirrors this is the big one I forgot to come in where all the welding what are you doing Tom I'm airing us up to nine PSI we had to guess the pressure on a job yesterday if you're wondering about tire pressure and what we do we pretty much never ever touch it but we went to a show and so we aired up to 15 pounds because it actually makes the Jeep look tougher because it lifts it up almost two inches from the standard eight or nine PSI we got out to a job it was too much we let some air out we did pretty good we're hitting like 5 PSI on all the tires 5 PSI is a little bit low lower than I like to run them it was great for the sand it was a nice ride the last time I meaningfully used the stick welder I was probably 12 years old we're gonna see how this goes we got our metal to weld we have Tom who's very critical of bad welding he's gonna point out my flaws how much have used music all the time I haven't will stick welded for a long time but that used to be all I had and so I did a bunch of it plus we have a spy from the other team all I do is stick welding that's all I have at home perfect stick welder well he's not going to be able to steal any tricks from me then all right let's see how this goes okay so the process here step one be in that area but as soon as you start strong as you strike an arc this needle goes all over the place as you're welding over here Tom quit fraternizing with the competition what is this 7018 mostly there's some 60 10 mixed in for a variety Excalibur hasn't been kept in a warm environment yeah warm and dry Southern Utah I'm going to grab a helmet so I can watch it seems to be a little hot yeah a little bit yeah don't try to make it you got to lay it down better it ain't gonna be pretty it'll come back to me what's the best way to hold this go right into it see where you kind of slowed down life day one rollover if it looks cool they're gonna rate you on a scale of 25 to 47. and smoothness is going to be one to six so looking cool on the rollover is more valuable don't I wouldn't send it though say he just dared me right there they won the dino sound cool 4-19 buff horsepowers which is an arbitrary number because the real horsepower is right here it has nothing to do with the green Merlin claims he has something up his sleeve for the dino mine's not gonna fit on him I bet you so here I gotta figure out what to do here because I realized that I gave you a huge Advantage here and then they're gonna pull it um that's what Miller's gonna be here to do that so they'll be the straight test rules that's the one that I'm actually curious about like what do these break at day two judging everybody award one point for each that applies to the athlete probably a good dancer Charming ridiculously good looking boys Charisma seems to know what he's doing award one point for each that applies to the spotter probably a good swimmer probably you float you're good to go probably not an ex-convict confident precision and not too out of breath oh I'm losing that we're in trouble award one point for each that applies to the helper who's your helper right there right there all right helpful speed and it looks like they could use a snack of some kind perfect good deal we'll have trail mix in his pocket Trail judging work as a team on a scale of 22 to 78. smooth moves one to seven damage the towed vehicle one to eight oh that's not very much so what all you've got to do is work as a team forget about the vehicle works well with other drivers three to 23 looks cool does that mean if I'm getting towed by another driver that helps me you're working as a team yeah exactly that's really cool if your athlete fails to complete the trail deduct two points oh perfect extra credit do the shoot four points do the shoot while Towing your Isuzu 20 points so there's a lot there's 24 points of bonus points we're definitely giving that a try oh you're gonna love this one to judge the athletes if your athlete is the OG of YouTube offered recovery give them 10 points if your athlete has backed up Hell's Gate you can reluctantly give them 10 points in your record not in my record it's got to be in a record if your athlete has a Cummins powered record give them 10 points if your athlete has ever lost a demolition derby to junkie you can give them 10 points perfect we're all getting 10 points in this one if your athlete has recently broken a bunch of transfer cases if your athlete has the best looking and coolest judges give them an extra 7 or 13 points if you are a corrupt judge and take bribes one dollar is equal to one point now here's it now here's the deal the judges don't have to agree because each judge gets their own scoring sheet so every driver is going to get you're going to be getting a massive amount of information okay so so do you see why I say this is rigged oh yeah for sure but in who's favored yeah and with the numbers being some of them are big numbers and different it's going to be really hard for the judges to track and where anyone's at so at the end of the first day are you tallying we're going to tell everybody where it is so we are here setting up for the pre-registration I think we've got about 3 500 people coming so
