**The 2020 Lexus GX460: A Comprehensive Review**
---
### Introduction to the 2020 Lexus GX460
The 2020 Lexus GX460, affectionately known as "the new old lexus gx," is a testament to reliability and durability. This model has been a staple since 2009, with only facelift updates over the years, including the notable big widow grill. Despite its age, it remains a top choice for those seeking a tried-and-true vehicle that can handle both urban commutes and off-road adventures.
### Exterior Design and Features
The exterior of the GX460 is a blend of luxury and ruggedness. The sport design pack gives it a sleek look with accents underneath, while the optional entertainment system in the back makes it family-friendly. However, the lack of a ski box means limited cargo space unless you opt for one. The headlights are a standout feature, featuring bright LED technology that enhances visibility during both day and night.
### Interior Comfort and Technology
Inside, the GX460 offers a familiar layout with creature comforts like radar-assisted cruise control and a wine-colored leather interior. The navigation system is user-friendly, and the overall design ensures plenty of storage for personal items. While the infotainment system may not match the latest tech trends (like iPads), it remains functional and reliable.
### Off-Road Capabilities and Performance
The GX460 is no slouch when it comes to off-road performance. With full-time all-wheel drive, it can tackle various terrains effortlessly. The KDSS system enhances its capability by decoupling sway bars during rock crawling, providing excellent articulation. However, the stiff suspension makes for a bumpy ride on rough roads, best handled in comfort mode.
The vehicle's ability to raise the rear under 20 mph is a practical feature for avoiding obstacles, though it lacks crawl control found in models with the off-road package. Despite this, its reliability is unmatched, capable of handling half a million miles without issue.
### Conclusion: Reliability and Longevity
In conclusion, the 2020 Lexus GX460 offers a unique blend of luxury, off-road capability, and reliability. While it may not be the latest in technology or design, its enduring performance and family-friendly features make it a worthwhile investment for those who value dependability.
This review captures the essence of the GX460, highlighting why it remains a favorite among enthusiasts and families alike. Whether you're navigating muddy trails or city streets, the GX460 delivers a reliable experience, much like that old MacBook Pro with an SD card reader—practical and enduring.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys welcome back to winding road magazine i'm tedward and this is the new old lexus gx it's the 2020 gx460 and yeah it's exactly the same as it's been since 2009 aside from some facelift updates like this big widow grill although you know it's just a big piece of plastic so although this is a luxury car by design it's really an off-road car wrapped in leather so it's important to remember that but if you want your old tried and true lexus to do the thing and last forever i can't think of something more reliable it's certainly not that so we've taken it out to some dirt roads today because we want to see how it performs out here it's certainly not the jeep gladiator mojave with those remote reservoirs so it's a little stiffer but it's got the room to bring the kids and i don't have to wave into anybody on the road that's kind of nice in the back we've got optional entertainment system for the rear passengers we've got these killer kinder seats although you can fit some adults in here not not the most comfortable thing in the world but they'll do the trick for a couple hours but you've got to remember unless you've got a ski box on top you're not going to fit much back here so we'll put those back down cool little mechanism make sure that i'm not going to crush anything i've got to hit the button twice now like it's toyota brother the 4runner it is a split hatch don't worry about that noise that is not the car that is the plate frame you can open this hatch but unlike the forerunner it's probably not the most savory thing to do while you're driving i don't like the idea of glass hanging out into the world the forerunner drops down so if that's kind of your thing and you're looking for that open air feel forerunner's probably more up your alley inside sorry i've got a bunch of stuff in here i've been out here all day but inside it's more of the same if you're familiar with the older gx's this is identical you've got your nav it does have some creature comforts radar assisted cruise control but this red leather it's kind of a wine color fantastic plenty of storage for all your stuff but you came here to watch it drive so let's go pop it into drive and i'll show you all the features and we'll go tackle some dirt roads i chose today because i thought it was going to be a nice relaxing sunny day i was wrong we're getting some rain that's fine we'll just get this truck a bit muddy so it's a body on frame and it's you know it's the prado oof yeah she's stiff yeah it's not gonna be uh like a remote reservoir baja car that's for sure this is more like a a family vehicle that's gonna get you through the apocalypse with cooled seats and that is a nice feature i'll tell you what let's get some air going in here and when this comes on boy does it come on strong oh yeah it's a nycha but you've got these old touch screens that you actually depress part of the screen it feels like they're not they're not like ipads that's for sure steering feel in these gx's it's kind of like a coach bus and it's full-time all-wheel drive so you're not in two-wheel drive like you would be in that jeep or even in uh in the raptor speaking of jeeps but you can pretty much go everywhere and that's what's fun about it and you have the rear which can raise up so under uh 20 miles an hour i can go ahead and push this button get that rear end to go up nice and high so if i were to be cresting a hill or a rock i would be able to do it like that and maybe save the undercarriage of the gx now this one is kind of a carrot spec it's got the sport design pack it doesn't have the off-road pack and the off-road pack is what's going to give you crawl control and toyota's crawl control is pretty impressive because that means if you do get stuck in something really bad like like you've beached the thing in the sand which uh chris emmos and i have done in his personal gx up at the sand dunes in michigan you're able to get out and basically you can select your mode of crawl control and then you just go side to side and the car takes care of the rest and we'll just kind of like eject the car from the dead it's amazing whereas this does not have that uh and and another thing that you get with the off-road package which i think is really nice is a big skid plate under the fuel tank you don't get that in this with the sport design pack the sport design pack this is kind of the mall crawler version where you get some nice accents underneath and some some silly things like that which don't necessarily matter i should be careful with these brights too because these headlights are insane the led lights on this gx are very bright even in the daytime if you were to flash and there was a sign or something reflective in front of you it it is quite illuminated i don't think you can go down there zachary so while we wait for him to emerge here one of the nice features of this is that you can put it in four wheel low very easily and it gives you all of your nice features here let me knock these headlights down a little bit i feel bad poor puppy good dog but yeah this is like that's the honestly that's the luxury of having this kind of four wheel low so i'm gonna have to catch them so i'm gonna stop this knock it back to regular high we're good nice and quick very easy let's go track down our friends so i've got it in comfort mode as well because i don't want to be feeling these bumps with stiff dampers um and it has kdss which is wonderful because it means that when you are on the road and you've got it in uh in sport mode when you get on an on ramp it stiffens up it tightens up but it also means that when you're crawling we're doing some rock crawling you're able to decouple those sway bars and get quite a bit of articulation so this is a very good compromise for off-road and street when it comes to that there is a rattle in this that i cannot seem to find out where it's coming from it sounds like it's in the glove box uh wait maybe it's that drink it's the drink yes isn't that the most satisfying thing in the world when you find a rattle so now all the europeans who watch this who are always complaining that why would you ever need a drink why would you want cup holders in your car you know what you win this round boys and girls you win this round something to note in the gx are the brakes and they're fine they do the job they will stop your truck not necessarily in a very straight line which we found out in my video on tedward drives but the truck it like doesn't want to stop you know you get here it always feels like it's pushing quite a bit so you'll probably roll through some stop signs driving your gx looks good so there you have it that's the lexus gx super capable i know we didn't do anything absolutely crazy out here today um but you know it is a very capable truck it's tried and true it's not the latest tech but you'll you'll never really get stuck in this thing it's always gonna get you there and that's the beauty and it'll do it for probably a half a million miles so thank you guys so much for watching i hope you can uh find some joy even in some older technology this feels a lot like a macbook pro with an sd card reader right we all want something that we used to have and they don't make anymore well they do still make it and this is it youhey guys welcome back to winding road magazine i'm tedward and this is the new old lexus gx it's the 2020 gx460 and yeah it's exactly the same as it's been since 2009 aside from some facelift
