Hands-On with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge
Currently, it's set to on you can turn it off with a tap but let's turn it back on and then just switch off the display and you'll notice in a bit this will pop out and this is always on. This display has actually patented or registered the use of always-on they kind of own that trademark.
It's 11:17 a.m. that's a time that's the date you have the battery levels over here and if you had missed calls or incoming messages the count would appear underneath the time. Over here and like I said it's always on it's always on the display but it consumes very little power samsung says less than a percent of battery per hour.
Let's go ahead and dive into the app drawer again very similar and we're actually pleased to see that there is hardly any bloat where there are a couple of samsung apps like s health and s voice and there are built-in google apps as well as a suite of Microsoft apps including Word Excel and PowerPoint. And last let's take a look at the settings menu again very similar to the settings menu on the note 5 you can search for example I was looking for storage earlier and as you can see this is a 32 gigabyte phone and out of the box it has about it's used about 7.8 to gigs so there's about 20 4.18 gigabytes available.
Last thing I want to show you is the version of Android you go into software info you'll find that it runs android 6.0.1 out of the box and that is marshmallow. You press and hold let me see there you go you have an Android version of flappy bird gamers will actually love this new feature it's an app called game launcher and it's basically a way to put all your games to organize all your games in one place you can add them this way it will arrange them but it's not just about arranging your apps what it does it allows you to save power while you're playing your games so you can save power or save maximum power.
And another interesting feature is no alerts during the game. The last thing you want to be doing is playing temple run you're about to jump and then an SMS comes in and you click no but you it's too late you fall and die so you can turn on no alerts during the game and last but not the least is game tools I can't show you that now because I don't have any games installed.
But basically what it allows you to do is take screen grabs or even recordings of game play itself. If you're a youtuber this is a perfect tool for them on the galaxy s7 edge you'll notice that the edge screen has been updated now there are two columns the edge screen just used to be over here now this entire thing is actually has the edge screen functionality up to ten different app icons or app shortcuts but it's not just about app shortcuts anymore.
Of you type again is a new feature called tasks edge so it's not just summoning a specific app but an action within an app for example being able to take a selfie launching the camera and taking a selfie or launching the messaging app and composing a message. You can go in and add other tasks for example launching the stopwatch from within the clock app or for example opening a new tab from within the browser right now for now as you can see these are all Samsung default applications but Samsung says they're opening up this feature to third-party developers so soon your favorite apps may be able to give you extra functionality for tasks edge.
And of course a swipe one more time will bring up people edge and so if you have favorite contacts can assign up to ten favorite contacts now with the new expanded edge display or edge screen if you swipe some more you can actually launch other widgets or apps. Like Yahoo News although we're not connected to it to the Internet so we are unable to show that to you now but that's what the functionality is like and you can go in and customize that by diving into this settings menu over here.
And as you can see these are some examples of how that look like this looks like Flipboard over here is a stock ticker of sorts sports scores you can add those in over there and they all are provided by this is provided by Yahoo Finance. And of course you can also include the weather but I don't think that will work because we are not beginning it at the moment associate mode over here.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: ensleeker more powerful and better all-around meat an introduction to the just announced Samsung Galaxy s7 hi I'm Michael Josh and you're watching gadget match we flew to Barcelona to get the scoop on the samsung galaxy s7 and here is our hands-on review let's get straight to it this is the galaxy s7 and this is the galaxy s7 edge both phones measure 5.1 interests and 5.5 inches respectively design-wise not much has changed since last year but that's not surprising because the s6 redesign was well received instead Samsung took what it had and made it better the s7 is still mostly made up of glass and metal but now has slightly more rounded corners and a slightly more squarish home button the display has an even narrower bezel meaning it's flushed against the sides of the phone button in port placements are the same volume rocker on the left and power button on the right microUSB charging port headphone jack speaker grilles and microphone on the bottom notice no USB type-c moving on up top you'll see there's a SIM card tray but no IR blaster but here's some good news the SIM card tray has an extra slot for a micro SD card meaning Samsung is bringing back that once curtailed option for expandable storage the phone supports micro SD cards of up to 200 gigabytes but the biggest design change can be seen and felt once you turn the phone around the back of the s7 is now curved Samsung is calling it 3d glass resulting in a phone that's easier to grip and one that feels thinner than it actually is the unsightly camera bump on the s6 has been shaved down significantly one final design change is another returning feature skipped on the s6 the s7 has an IP 68 rating meaning it's waterproof and dustproof you can shower with your phone or swim up to depths of one meter for 30 minutes while the s7 still has a non-removable battery Samsung's made sure that this time around the phone has a bigger battery up to 3000 milliamp hours on the s7 and 3,600 million bars on the S an edge Samsung is also improving the s sixes already impressive camera the company is touting a new feature called dual photodiode something seen on high-end DSLRs like the canon 70d the promise is even better low-light performance and even faster autofocus we spent some time with a camera and were pretty impressed by focus speeds also worth mentioning my favourite feature on the s6 double pressing on the home button to start up the camera still works in camera launch time is as fast as ever Samsung is making a bold move this year cutting down on megapixels from 16 on the s6 to only 12 on the s7 but this is actually a good thing because each individual pixel is larger and shots theoretically should be better the selfie camera also gets a fill-in flash although we're not sure of like on the iPhone 6s it adjusts based on ambient light conditions in our tests we only got a warm white flash ok so this is what the user interface of the s7 looks like if you'll notice it's very similar almost identical to the user interface on the note 5 these rounded squarish icons are the same exact icons that shipped with the version of TouchWiz on the note 5 if you swipe to the right from the home screen you'll get Flipboard briefing although if you don't want it you have the option to turn it off just press and hold on the home screen swipe right and then over here you can just toggle on and off we set it to off and now it's turned on and can basically turn on it's turned off and you want to turn it back on just go ahead and do that as well and then we turn it back on while we're here on the settings let me also show you some of the wallpapers that shipped this is the default wall for paper it's blue dark blue and then they have other variations over here actually like this one over here and it also comes in this gold color if that's what your preference is I actually like this I'm going to set that to be our new wallpaper also while you're on settings you can actually also change a couple of things you can change the icons facing right now at 4 by 4 but if you'd like to fit in more icons you could definitely go to 5 by 5 or 4 by 5 whatever you please but let me just leave it here and maybe let me just come back to something darker for this video this is what the drop-down notification shade looks like if you recall on the s6 the design was a bit quirky a bit fun this one is a bit more minimalist more held back you'll notice shades of grey and blue and if you look over here is a new feature of the s7 the always-on display currently it's set to on you can turn it off with a tap but let's turn it back on and then just switch off the display and you'll notice in a bit this will pop out and this is always on this display
