New roof is on already and it’s Bat Friendly ! _ Dream Garage Ep5 _ 4K

**A Unique Build: Petroed's Dream Garage**

In this episode, we take a look at one of our most unique and exciting builds yet - a dream garage that's been years in the making. As you can see from the video, the build is taking shape, with the roof starting to come together.

We're using a very specialized roofing material, known as bat-friendly felt, which has tiny microfibers that prevent bats from getting their claws stuck on it. This means that even if bats were to roost in the eaves of the building, they won't be able to get a grip and won't be harmed.

One of the challenges of this build was ensuring that the structural integrity of the roof was maintained while also incorporating these specialized materials. Fortunately, our structural engineer had designed a solution that meets all of our needs, including providing a solid foundation for the building.

As we can see from the video, the build is coming along nicely, with the plywood board in place and the battening complete on the majority of the roof. The only remaining task is to finish off the last bit of structural steel work, which will replace an old ACRO system. Once this is done, the focus will shift to the interior layout and installation of the floors.

**A Focus on Sustainability**

We're committed to building a sustainable home that not only meets our needs but also respects the environment. That's why we've chosen to use eco-friendly materials wherever possible, including bat-friendly felt for the roof.

Our build is located in a conservation area, which means that we had to take extra care to ensure that we were meeting all of the necessary building regulations while also minimizing our impact on the local ecosystem. Fortunately, we're pleased to say that our structural engineer has designed a solution that meets all of these requirements.

**Unveiling the Space**

One of the most exciting parts of this build is the opportunity to unveil the finished space. As you can see from the video, the gym and office areas are really coming together, with plenty of natural light pouring in through the large windows.

We've chosen a bright and airy color scheme for the interior, which will provide a welcome contrast to the dark and industrial exterior. The balcony overlooking the gym is also going to be a favorite spot, providing a great place to relax and take in the views.

The final touches are being added as we speak, including flooring and lighting, which will complete this amazing space. We can't wait to see it all come together and share it with you.

**Putting it All Together**

As you can see from the video, we're making great progress on this build, and it's exciting to think about the finished product. From the bat-friendly roof to the bright and airy interior spaces, every detail has been carefully considered to create a home that's not only functional but also sustainable.

We've had a lot of questions from viewers about our building process, including whether we're using traditional methods or more modern techniques. As it happens, we are using a combination of both - traditional techniques where possible, combined with more modern materials and designs where they offer advantages in terms of sustainability.

The result is a home that's not only unique but also environmentally friendly, which is something we're all proud of as builders. We hope you've enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look at our dream garage build, and we can't wait to share the next episode in the series with you.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys and welcome to peted and welcome to episode five of my dream garage build now I've been away on a drive tour for the last 9 to 10 days and a lot has happened since then Super exciting stuff but we've had a couple of challenges as well now first challenge is I haven't been here so I wasn't able to capture a lot of the build work however I have an able assistance Tracy my lovely wife Mrs petrop ped managed to grab some footage earlier this week because this week was roof on week and all I need to say is the roofers were unbelievably efficient and very very quick but let's get Tracy's update from the first part of last week hello Peddlers and welcome to petrol ped uh I thought I would give you a bit of a view uh there's quite a lot happened today uh there was no roof this morning uh and now uh we have the makings of one uh the boys seem to have done a huge amount today uh which is fantastic uh and they've been cracking on with the internals of the bar uh quite significantly over the last week so I thought you might like to see a bit of what has been going on um they've done lots of insulation uh so that's uh that's coming along really well uh lots of boxing in of the Steels to make sure that that all looks uh really good and then coming around to one of the store rooms uh basically got all the insulation in there uh today which is great uh and no progress in the little shed store but to be honest there's not much to do in there uh and then walking around to the kitchen uh which again they've been doing insulation getting the floor in uh which is all really uh exciting uh so big Focus for this week is to get the roof um fully finished ready for the tiles to go on next week we'll take a wander up and have a look at the other side so you get a good bird's eye view of what they've been doing up here uh it's good to see obviously the crank beam in and all of all the rafters going in uh they've done an awful lot today um but coming around to the front of the barn you can see that they have have started to put in where the vux windows will be going uh we should be delivered hopefully at some point this week ready for the guys to fit when they do the roof next week so weather's obviously being incredibly kind uh as you can see it's about 6:30 in the evening here so yeah really really excited to to get the roof back on so be much more to see I think in the next week to 10 days so much was happening I think that was just a day day and a half of work it only took the roof us 3 days to complete the roof it is done look at that well I say it's done it's now ready for felt and battening and tiling but more on that in a moment let me just walk you through what's been happening downstairs because lots of exciting things have been happening downstairs the biggest thing is at the moment the building isn't watertight so we can't do too much um in terms of things that react to water but what we have started to be doing is putting all of the insulation in so in the kitchen area now we've got not only the insulation under the floor which was in before I went away but we've also got insulation on the walls as well uh first fix is going really really well we'll see lots of electric points they're all wired up they just need the facia boards on them and then the really exciting view from in here here this is going to be the little balcony here and the stairs going upstairs and now the roof's on upstairs it just looks fantastic we've had a few decisions made this week about the staircase itself um so we now know what that's going to look like we basically got three top bits of stair three flights of stairs um this is also going to be a suspended thing so we're basically going to connect this end here up to the top of the roof and have that suspended so that Acro won't be there thankfully and then if we walk through into the main garage part not a great deal has changed here on the surface you'll be able to see that we've now got insulation running on all of the rear walls also in the bike store that's all now fully insulated and ready for plaster board all the first fix down there's done this has got all of the insulation on it ready for plaster board uh and the same in the tool store um I say plaster board one of the things we're going to do down in the garage and in the office spaces sorry in the to two store spaces is we're actually going to put plywood on the walls first and then plaster board just so it helps me or makes it easier to attach stuff to the walls but in here this space just looks so exciting now really really cool uh and then um the main support pillars they're all now um um starting to be fully boxed in we're basically going to have those clad with some really nice wood um we're not fully decided what that's going to look like yet um but that's going to look really nice and traditional so you won't be able to see the brick Pier or the upright steel work that will all be clad in Wood um and then well I think I need to take you upstairs to show you my new roof it's only really when you get up close you see just how beautifully crafted this roof is it really is something special um the bit that's on the front wasn't um something we could see last time I don't think it was easy for us to work out so you've got that that little porch element on the front U and then we've basically got all of the elements for um the Vues I ordered the Vues that was one of our challenges with vux by the way um so we ordered Vues they should have been here uh last week unfortunately got a call from the suppliers um although we had the flashing sent through there were no vux windows I know vux is a bit of a name a little bit like um Hoover right there are a manufacturer of uh roof lights or roof Windows um and there were no Vues of the Heritage style that we have to put in this house in the UK none um they weren't even sure I think they're made in Denmark they weren't even sure when they were going to get some and we had a a day worth of Mega panic I was actually away in Spain at the time but we've managed to Source a different vendor of window and they look exactly the same bonuses they're actually a little bit cheaper and those windows were ordered and they should be with us early next week um ready to be put into the roof and then once they're in we can felt and Baton and tile the roof and so if we wander around here just to give you a view of this so you can see that porch work is such a beautifully crafted beautifully made structure um it sits on the steel work it's perfectly Square uh and it's a really beautiful thing now one of the things that we um haven't got in yet but needs to do before we can start felting and battening and tiling is the crank beam isn't in what is a crank beam I hear you cry well if I just spin the camera around there is a pier just here and there will be a beam that goes up try and use my finger up here and then along the ridge line and basically that will then sit um and support the roof and then uh let me go inside and I'll show you so the beam will go all the way along the ridge of the roof bend down and then sit on that brick Pier we've just had a look at there and it will also be supported if you watched I think maybe episode 2 or three we talked about the goal post so on the wall you can just see down there um there are two um uh uh reinforced supports at the top and there'll be a goalpost that will form the doorway into my office and then from the top of the goalpost will be a beam that goes up to meet the ridge beam uh along the top so that's steel work that's the next big job that will go in this week uh and then once that's in the roof will support itself and then we can start putting the tiling on but it's a big space in here I know we've got this kind of bird cage um scaffolding but yeah really really exciting really exciting so yes now interestingly I'm actually off um for another couple of days tomorrow so I'm going to miss the it's Sunday at the moment I'm going to miss Monday Tuesday of the build um so I may well miss the crank the the crank beam going in which is a bit gutting really um but yeah um I am super super excited about this and that that little space just there that's where my new desk is going to go and I got a nice vux window there to look out of and this in here this is going to be the gym very exciting so um I'll join you again in a few days time to see what progress we've made now then it is Monday of week seven of the build and A lot's happening today we have a huge amount of trade on display but a lot happened at the back end of last week that I wasn't able to get on camera so let's head over and show you what was installed at the back into the last week and talk through what's going to happen this week because this week the barn is just going to transform so first up the roofers are back so this week the roof goes back on so felting and battening today and then tiles but see this big bit of Steel here that was the big install last week let me just show you that because this is the crank beam that's basically the structural Integrity of the roof so it sits on this brick Pier just here and that was a job and a half to get that installed believe me but the fit the it's absolutely perfect absolutely perfect there's one more bit of roof to go in let me wander inside and I'll show you that see yeah from in here we get a much better view of the crck been going all all the way along the ridge line of the roof now I've had a few comments uh about both this steel and also the Steels that hold the floor up sitting on top of uh Timbers bolted together like that saying that oh it doesn't look right it's perfectly okay um I've working with fantastic Architects great structural engineer great building controller most importantly great builders that dude there actually and it is fine and then there's going to be a plaster board wall on the front of that so so it's perfectly Standard Building practice I I asked questions when I first saw it but it's it's okay so the only thing that's left is if I just wand this way make sure I don't fall down is around about here so there there there's the door poost or the doorway between the gym and the office and that will have the goalpost and a beam that goes up and sits around about kind of here so there's one more structural member of Steel to go in um but to today all of this internal bird cage scaffolding will go and we can start to see that the boys are starting to put the felt on I have to come and do my filming today because I don't think it's going to be too long we're starting to see the felt and the battening being put on the front porch there so that will cover the whole barn and then you won't be able to really see inside so much but that also means and this is the very exciting part is that that means that the barn will now be waterproof now we've had a huge amount of rain over the weekend so there's lots of Puddles inside so as soon as that felting is on we're waterproof and that means we can do two things we can take the plywood temporary floor from the first floor and put that on the walls downstairs and then we can actually put the proper floor boarding in and also start to build up the partition walls upstairs so we'll start to get a feel for what that looks like and then we can also start to do things like Plastering we can start building the stairs um so there's a lot of stuff going to happen this week and it's really really exciting so I'm going to leave the boys to it and then I might before the end of this video show you their progress cuz I think by the end of this week these guys we're going to have the windows in we're going to have the tiles on and it's going to look like a proper garage the other thing which is really cool to look at while we're waiting is this rear wall now we had a lot of problems here from a structural point of view but that's now got the sopit and the facia board on the air gap and and that's going to look really really smart but they've done such a good job of the Integrity of that roof it's properly square and it's going to look fantastic when it's done so the guys are starting to put the paneling on the walls down here and I wanted to finally put to bed something about the structure of this building loads of people have commented about this about basically having the rsj or the steel sat on top of upright Tim so these are 2x4 Timbers there's four of them jointed together and they run all the way down there's a double Timber at the bottom and one at the top and everyone's kind of commented about whether that's sound building practice I can assure you it is it's been designed by a structural engineer the building inspector came out yesterday and signed it off so that's all good and then what really makes it structural is we're now putting on this ply board here and the reason we're doing that two reasons one it makes that stud wall completely structural but secondly and most importantly it means that I've now got once we've plaster boarded over this a nice firm wall to hang stuff on which could be bikes basically but yes don't worry about an rsj SAT on bits of wood it's fine people well a lot of progress was made yesterday today all the battening is on the majority of the roof um and then we should finish that off today but I wanted to show you just a detail that I think is really very cool so we live in a conservation area so when the guys have been felting and battening this roof we've had to use a very special felt now it probably doesn't look any different to any other roof felt that you've ever seen but this is special bat friendly roof felt yeah you heard it bat friendly I didn't even know there was such a thing basically the the normal felting in fact the stuff that was taken off of this Barn I don't know how it was allowed to be put on but it has really small microfibers and if the if bats get up underneath the eaves and in the little air space that's underneath this uh roof if they go up there to roost they can get their claws stuck on the roofing felt so this special bat friendly felt they can't do that the challenge is it's a little bit more expensive and it's a bit more uh heavy duty it's heavier so for the guys to put on it's a bit more of a pain but we've now got a bat friendly roof but by the end of the day that hole there will be covered up and it will be weatherproof and that is a good thing because even though we've had amazing weather so far on this build sadly the roof or the weather is not looking good and that's also not good because it's Festival of speed this week and it's looking like it's going to be a wet one but yes anyway that's our bat friendly roof now this is a bit I've been looking forward to since we first conceived this build we can now go upstairs the floors are in I want you to follow me for the first time you do have to use your imagination a little bit because we're going to use this set of ladders and I am rubbish with ladders but we'll come up here and I want to reveal this amazing space I mean seriously just look at it absolutely Mega so this is the gym and then I'll spin all the way around and we got the boys responsible over there Sean laying cables for the lighting mate Boys you've done an awesome job and then this so stairs are going to come up here come around this way you now stood where my desk's going to be this is this is the office I've got the really cool kind of balcony and then that's the view of the gym now there is going to be a wall along here the gold poost I told you about about 50 million times are going to stand look there's actually some markings on the floor they're just going to go there that's the last bit of structural steel work which will go there and replace the acro hopefully cuz that doesn't look great but yes that's it now you'll be able to hear the guys outside putting the tiles on the roof and the next job these boys are going to do is start to lay out the internals of this space up here but that is for episode 6 I thought I'd finish here I wanted to just stand here on this deck on this new gym space it's massive up here Wicked anyway I hope you enjoyed that put in the comments any questions you've got or comments you've got but I hope you enjoyed that if you did give me a thumbs up comments below are always welcome and if you haven't done so already please subscribe to petroed for plenty more content to come make sure you tune in to episode number six if You' just tuned into this for the first time there is a playlist with all my dream garage builds in it so go down and watch the first one and just see how this incredible building has evolved but to be stood up St STS is just cool anyway see you on the next one guys you take care drive safehey guys and welcome to peted and welcome to episode five of my dream garage build now I've been away on a drive tour for the last 9 to 10 days and a lot has happened since then Super off of this Barn I don't know how it was allowed to be put on but it has really small microfibers and if the if bats get up underneath the eaves and in the little air space that's underneath this uh roof if they go up there to roost they can get their claws stuck on the roofing felt so this special bat friendly felt they can't do that the challenge is it's a little bit more expensive and it's a bit more uh heavy duty it's heavier so for the guys to put on it's a bit more of a pain but we've now got a bat friendly roof but by the end of the day that hole there will be covered up and it will be weatherproof and that is a good thing because even though we've had amazing weather so far on this build sadly the roof or the weather is not looking good and that's also not good because it's Festival of speed this week and it's looking like it's going to be a wet one but yes anyway that's our bat friendly roof now this is a bit I've been looking forward to since we first conceived this build we can now go upstairs the floors are in I want you to follow me for the first time you do have to use your imagination a little bit because we're going to use this set of ladders and I am rubbish with ladders but we'll come up here and I want to reveal this amazing space I mean seriously just look at it absolutely Mega so this is the gym and then I'll spin all the way around and we got the boys responsible over there Sean laying cables for the lighting mate Boys you've done an awesome job and then this so stairs are going to come up here come around this way you now stood where my desk's going to be this is this is the office I've got the really cool kind of balcony and then that's the view of the gym now there is going to be a wall along here the gold poost I told you about about 50 million times are going to stand look there's actually some markings on the floor they're just going to go there that's the last bit of structural steel work which will go there and replace the acro hopefully cuz that doesn't look great but yes that's it now you'll be able to hear the guys outside putting the tiles on the roof and the next job these boys are going to do is start to lay out the internals of this space up here but that is for episode 6 I thought I'd finish here I wanted to just stand here on this deck on this new gym space it's massive up here Wicked anyway I hope you enjoyed that put in the comments any questions you've got or comments you've got but I hope you enjoyed that if you did give me a thumbs up comments below are always welcome and if you haven't done so
