Face Unlock for iPhone: RecognizeMe 2.0

The 2.0 update has brought a lot of improvements, including faster recognition and various other features that make it more convenient to use.

So, let's give you guys a little demo. All you need to do is unlock your device just like you normally do, but when you slide to unlock, you'll also have the option to click "Recognize me" and forget. This feature uses the front-facing camera to recognize your face.

To test it out, I'm going to hold my head up to the camera so that it can get a clear shot of my face. Okay, so we're good! It's working pretty well. Now, let's take a look at some options within the Recognize me app. The most important one is to open up with a face trainer.

You can do this once and it should be alright, but the more times you run this, the better it will get. You'll see that I've already stretched my face so I'm going to move around a bit. Yeah, it does it pretty well! But one of the major things about doing the face trainer is that it allows you to train it in different lighting and stuff.

You know how facial recognition can sometimes be tricky? Well, the best way to do it is to train it in several places, so you know, three or four times maybe, one in sunlight, one in darkness. That kind of stuff. Once you're ready to do it, it's not quite perfect, but I've got a camera in my watch case, so let's see what we can do here.

There we go! Hit train, and it's going to capture my face a few different times. It's going to create biometrics, which sounds very exciting! But basically, that's doing is taking those pictures of my face, cropping them down, and adding it to the database.

Once it's done, you can click back and go into the training set. Let's take a look at the pictures I've taken so far. See how many times I've taken a picture with my mouth a little bit different? Eyes this that... when it does, it kind of brings them all together!

So, when you're ready to do the facial recognition, it's able to better recognize your face in lots of different areas. There are also a couple of things here. For example, if it's not recognizing your face enough, you can adjust the settings to 70% and leave that at the default. You also have an auto-start option, which will automatically come up instead of pulling out your PIN number.

However, sometimes facial recognition can be pretty easy to fool, so let's give this a shot! I'm going to print it out on a picture of myself from one of my videos. Okay, let's unlock our device, slide down lock, and hit "Recognize me" with the picture of me up. It's scanning the face... it recognizes it! So overall, it's a pretty cool little tweak that you can get for about three bucks in the Cydia Store.
