Welcome to HGTV Handmade with Me and My Husband William Battle Cold III: A Christmas Couples Craft Challenge
As we arrive at the dollar store, I'm filled with excitement and a hint of nervousness. I've managed to rope my husband, William, into participating in this Christmas couples craft challenge, despite his hatred for being in front of the camera. With our allotted amount of money and time in hand, we're ready to take on the challenge. I explain that we'll be working independently, but with the goal of creating something festive and fun.
As I look around my studio, I'm reminded that I've forgotten to make it holiday-themed, despite the abundance of Christmas decorations in our space. This realization sets me off on a creative tangent, and I start grabbing items that I think will be versatile in the craft room. These include jesters' bows, crystal bowls, glow sticks, office supplies, baby socks, wire, and a pencil sharpener. My goal is to create something involving snowmen, but I'm not entirely sure what form it will take.
William joins me in my studio, looking a bit apprehensive about being on camera. We both know that our reputation is at stake, so we're determined to make the most of this challenge. With the clock ticking away, we start shopping for materials at the dollar store. Gracie and I finished early, so now we're just enjoying some personal crafting time.
As William looks over my scattered collection of items, he can't help but chuckle at my lack of focus. "I'm not sure what you're going to make, Meg," he says with a grin. I respond by explaining that our project will involve making a snowman, despite the fact that we've forgotten to get any winter-themed decorations. This sets us both off on a path of creative problem-solving.
With my materials in hand, I start building a cone out of an old sponge. It's not going well – it keeps falling apart! But I persevere, determined to create something beautiful. Meanwhile, William is working on his own project, which appears to be some sort of rainbow-colored sculpture. He explains that he's using a hot glue gun, but warns me against doing the same.
As the timer ticks down, I realize that I've hit a roadblock. Cutting up this green tablecloth has been tough work, and I'm starting to get frustrated. But then it hits me – we can use the rainbow colors to create a festive backdrop for our snowman! This newfound idea gives me a burst of energy, and I set to work frantically gluing on colorful items around my cone.
With only minutes left on the clock, I realize that something has gone terribly wrong. William's hot glue gun seems to have turned against him, causing him to get stuck in a mess of melted plastic. The sound of his muffled yelps fills the room as he tries to free himself from the sticky situation. It's clear that our project has taken an unexpected turn.
As we finish up our creations and step back to admire our handiwork, I have to admit that it's... interesting. William's snowman looks more like a melted ice cream cone than anything festive, while my creation appears to be some sort of avant-garde art piece. Despite the chaos and confusion, I'm proud of what we've accomplished.
As we wrap up this challenge, I want to thank our viewers for joining us on this wild and unpredictable journey. We may not have created something beautiful or cohesive, but we certainly had fun trying. And who knows? Maybe next year's challenge will be even more chaotic – only time will tell!
