BMW just dropped a Powder Keg on the world in the form of the new M2 and the internet has thoughts there's no denying it should be a performance Masterpiece but we have to talk about how it looks too let's get the awesome bids out of the way first the engine under the hood it's a detuned version of the three liter twin turbocharged inline 6 s58 found in the M3 and M4 detuned sure but it's still cranking out 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque that's nearly 50 horses more than the excellent BMW M2 competition.
and yes you can get it with an 8-speed automatic but BMW is also offering the new M2 with an optional six-speed manual gearbox power goes out back where it should as there's no all-wheel drive version of course and this power pushes a car that's a little lower and a bit wider you'll find 19-inch Wheels with 275 series tires up front and a set of 20 inch wheels with 285 series tires out back with the power and grip on tap.
BMW says the M2 will go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds that's with the automatic attic as the car needs 4.1 seconds with the stick those tents are worth it here though and I could live with a four second zero to 60 on this thing and BMW is always a touch conservative on its 0 to 60 times anyway.
opt for the M drivers package and you get rid of the 155 mile per hour speed limiter in favor of one at 177 and then when you need to slow down this thing where's massive brakes the rear rotors are 14.6 inches while the fronts are a massive 15 inch rotor with a six piston setup now on to the other areas of the car it's not a lightweight the engineers are working actual magic to do what they do as cars get heavier and heavier and with the new M2 the curb weight is now well over 3 800 pounds.
the nose is better than some of the other designs we've seen from BMW as of late but it's not wonderful either this car does look good in profile though and those flared fenders are rather excellent the rear three-quarter view isn't completely terrible but it still has too many hard creases and angles at least for my taste.
one very good bit about the design though the new M2 exclusive xandvort blue color that's being offered I've heard nothing regarding a competition version but it would be straight up insane not to see one arrive for now though this new M2 sounds like it will be a pretty awesome machine to rip around a race track or blast down a wide open Canyon Road and if you want to someday do that yourself the starting price for the new BMW M2 is 63 195 dollars and it will arrive at your local BMW dealer in April of 2023.
