Samsung Galaxy S Plus i9001 Super AMOLED Review
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's happening guys uh today we're going to be taking a look at and reviewing the new Samsung Galaxy S Plus the I 901 uh this is a relatively new device from Samsung and is now priced at about 18 to 19,000 rupes in the market it has an interesting set of specifications but there are some issues with this device and we'll talk about them when we get into their respective sections uh when we talk about the build quality of the device you will see that it follows along the lines of Samsung construction you have a fully plastic back cover along with a plastic bezel and uh a squarish uh front here you do have a physical Hardware button in the center which is essentially your home button you have a menu button and a back button uh which is a touch capacitive button in terms of cameras we have a 5 map autofocus camera at the back it does do 720P HD video recording and you do have a speaker phone over here on the front however you have a VGA camera and uh it does allow video calling over 3G so that's definitely a good point the screen on this is a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 16 million color capabilities and it has a 480x800 pixel resolution display and uh it's a 4 in uh display and and you get about 233 pixels per inch so that's definitely good uh the front screen is a gorilla glass display so it is impact resistant as well as scratch resistant and as you can see we've got no screen protector on it and we've been using it quite extensively and it's not been damaged at all whatsoever no scratches whatsoever the display is also really nice it's not very fingerprint friendly it however does attract some fingerprints but it's not a fingerprint magnet as other devices have been you do have a closable sliding uh USB charging port on the top over here along with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and uh that's about it you do have this really nice uh chin or a reverse chin at the back of the device it makes it a little bit easier to hold in the hand it gives it some sort of grip okay so without further Ado let's get into the operating system and see what the device performs like so this is the lock screen of the device as you can see over here you get your date and time information and of course you get this uh removable panel over here which you can remove to unlock the device uh on either side so you get your date time along with the network information on the top and your notifications that stay in the notification bar at the top over here just simply slide out the front panel to unlock the device and you will see your main home screen again you do have an overview feature uh just like any other Samsung Android device in the past you can jump from panel to panel with this and uh you get seven home screens uh which you can customize according to your own preference you can just simply hold down your finger act widgets shortcuts folders the wallpapers and uh simply drop it in so that's uh definitely easy to customize uh you do have a standard notification panel along with quick launch on the top over here you get Wi-Fi Bluetooth GPS sound and auto rotation along with your network name or your network provider and your standard notifications from your games applications email SMS missed phone calls all the things coming quickly into the phone dialer you have a really nice and large layout phone dialer from Samsung standard uh layout system for Samsung you do have your calling buttons at the bottom you can see here is a video call button so you can directly initiate video calls if you have a 3G network you can directly send messages from here as well so that's definitely a good feature you can jump you can jump into your log all your contacts directly from here now in your contacts you do have the standard Samsung feature where you can just slide left to uh where you can slide left to message and swipe right to initiate a call uh with a person so that's something which is a quick launch for uh the phone dialer in the device makes it a little bit easier for the user coming back into the home screen I'm just going to quickly jump into messaging over here and create a new message and once you go in here you will be able to see a nice and large format keyboard as you can see it's uh pretty good and responsive and it does uh type easily even though I have larger thumbs I was easily able to type on this you of course can activate uh swipe on this which comes pre-installed so in case you don't like the Samsung keyboard you can quickly go into swipe and then let's give it a test there this is a test of swipe as you can see that works brilliantly as well so the keyboard overall is excellent you can again shift from portrait to landscape I think I have the auto rotation turned off so once I turn that on uh you can quickly switch from portrait to landscape which works great as well um in swipe or any other uh keyboard you can of course download and install tons of keyboards from the Android Marketplace as they are available over there uh we personally really like the Windows phone keyboard which is available from the Android Marketplace uh the marketplace is the newer version of uh the Android Marketplace as you will be able to see now so you get your recommended applications laid out in the front in the featured section and of course you have your top paid top free applications you can scroll through tons and tons of applications you almost have about 400,000 applications in the Android App Store now so we have a large chunk of applications to go through coming into Google Maps you have the latest version of Google Maps which has just been updated you can uh geolocate yourself as you can see there is a digital compass it does find us over here and once you do turn on uh the digital compass the device turns along with uh your phone and it makes it easy to navigate of course you can uh initiate navigation from here directly and uh you can speak your destination type your destination you can also star some places on the map so navigation works great we tested it out it works without any problem you can also add uh checkins and latitude directly on uh this so that's good you can also store your places so that you can quickly jump to for example office or home and uh you don't need to worry about that as well so that's the maps application I'm going to quickly jump into the browser and of course uh it's already loading up so I'm just going to let it be uh quickly load up Igan in uh hopefully you guys are seeing a big Improvement on Igan it loads much faster now we've tweaked up our servers but let's get back to that and you can see that browsing on this kinetic scrolling is really smooth smooth it loads up the mobile website without any problem and uh we had no issues using this device is quickly going to a post here now we are running on uh ATL 3G and uh it seems to be running pretty fast I'm just going to quickly shift from the mobile theme to the regular theme once the full website loads you'll be able to see that uh you can scroll out or you can zoom out all the way so that the full website fits into a single page which which is pretty good for the browser you can of course switch to from portrait to landscape and it will adjust the size once it's finished loading the website uh you can see that again all images all sorts of text is really crisp and clear you can play videos directly from here as well so overall it's good you can see pinch to zoom in and zoom out is pretty smooth and rendering is absolutely brilliant on the device so we are pretty happy with that aspect so browsing works I'm just going to quickly go into to YouTube and play one of our videos so that you can check out video playback as well as audio quality on this and so as you can see the display looks absolutely stunning and you can see the level of black is really deep uh black almost goes along on with the bezel and you you hardly notice the difference between the black in this display as well as the Black in the bezel definitely a good screen from Samsung for the s+ got Zombie Dash over here so as you can see gaming seems pretty decent on this I don't have any highrise games on this right now uh but before before we flashed it for the review we were playing a bunch of good games on this Real Racing 2 and all of those they play great and if you guys want and if you leave a comment in the comment section below I'll make a separate video for gaming just on the Galaxy s+ if you guys like to see that so leave a comment for that below now the last thing I'm going to quickly show you guys is uh the benchmarks and first of all we have quadrant over here I'm just going to stop that one second and I'm going to just tell you about the task manager all Samsung phones come with a inbuilt task task manager and if you hold down the home button you'll get this window window of uh recently running applications if you quickly tap on the task manager it'll show you the running applications if you exit all of them and if you go into RAM you can clear some Ram up as well so it frees up your uh active RAM usage which makes it run or actually makes the device run a lot smoother so I'm just going to quickly go back to quadrant and now run a full benchmark so the device scores a 1421 which is definitely poor for this device we're also going to quickly run Nina Mark I as you can see Nina Mark gives it just 13.6 FPS uh which is quite disappointing if you ask us that's the operating system of the Samsung Galaxy s+ and before we conclude this uh there are two things that I would like to share with you first of all the camera the camera is a really nice uh 5 megapixel camera but as you can see I don't know if you guys can see that in the video there is a orange tint in the middle of the screen over here and that does reflect in the photographs as well so in the center of the camera there is some sort of an orange tint and earlier we thought that there was something on the screen of the lens but there's nothing on the screen of the lens it's just something that is in the camera we don't know if it's in all cameras but it's definitely there in our device uh you do get tons of Samsung settings over here you can switch to the front camera you get your shooting mode your scene modes exposure values Focus modes and tons of stuff weightage metering all of that guidelines you can turn on guidelines you can turn off guidelines all the things and the camera application pretty decent video quality is again affected by the fact that there is a yellow tint in the center right in the center of the display there is a small yellow tint that shows up on the video as well so uh definitely disappointed with the camera the other thing that we were uh really veryy about was the fact that the device crashes and reboots a lot and uh if you just leave it off it just sometimes fails to turn on within a phone call you will see that the proximity sensor misbehaves and I'll see if I can demonstrate that right now uh the device turns off and fails to turn on in most cases uh it seems to be working fine right now but if you put it to your ear and then you bring it back out it just does not come back on and it sometimes crashes you need to reboot it uh another problem that we faced was the fact that this charging port is also very erratic once you start to charge the device it does not charge and we found a little fix for that if you plug in the charger and the device is not charging you need to basically pull out the battery with the charger plugged in and then reinsert it uh this usually happens in a case where the batter is completely dyed out and uh the phone refuses to pick up charge so just simply plug in your charger remove the back panel remove the battery reinserted the device will start charging apart from that we face no problems operating system is sturdy build quality is pretty impressive especially thanks to the gorilla glass display in the front price-wise this device is 18,000 rupees in terms of processor you have a 1.4 GHz scorpion Snapdragon processor you do get an 8 GB storage in India with 512 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM out of the 8 GB you get about 5 GB which is usable by you the rest of the stuff is taken by the operating system uh you do get Android 2.3 Gingerbread and possible upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich should be on its way for the Galaxy s+ so there you go guys for more unboxing videos reviews and tutorials log
