How To - Load a Custom ROM on the Nook Color

How to Install a Custom ROM on Your Nook Color

Hey guys, it's David from The Unlocker.com and today we're going to show you a little custom rom on your nook color. Before you begin, you must have done our how-to root the color procedure if you haven't click on that link there to be taken to that procedure. Do it once it's done, then you can come back to this one and we can continue.

On the Nook Color, we're going to now go to Extras and The Market and we're going to search for Rom Manager. I'm going to grab the free one and install it. Click ok and wait for that to install okay. So once that's done installing, we can click on the notification we can open that and click ok, click ok, and we're going to click on Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery choose our model which is Nook Color. Click allow it says successfully flashed then we go next step.

Once you've done that, you're gonna head to our Rom section then you're going to choose your device in this case it's the Nook Color and you should be greeted with a list of the roms we have available right now there's only one at the time of writing this so we're going to click on that can see the rom itself. We're going to click on the download link this will take you to the developer's actual page now you're going to search that for his download link so we have it right here and you're going to download that and save it to your computer okay.

So once you download that rom, we're going to plug in our new color via USB so we can transfer files to the sd card okay and then we're going to do the removable disc because that's our sd card whereas media is the actual Nook itself so we're not removable. Then we're going to take the rom file that we had and we're going to copy it over to the root of the sd card not inside any folders just on the sd card itself also don't unzip it leave it as a dot zip file and wait for that to transfer okay once we have the rom on there.

We're going to go Extras uh and if Rom Manager is in here you can click on it but sometimes it has to reboot for it to reload these apps so we're just going to mark it and then you'll see you'll have this list here see the one that's installed if you click on that you'll be able to open it from there. So now that it's open, we're gonna click reboot into recovery click ok and wait for it to reboot into recovery okay eventually to reboot to this screen and you're going to use the volume buttons to navigate and we're going to go down to backup and restore push the end to select click backup and wait for it to back up our current rom okay.

Eventually, we'll save backup complete now we're going to go to the next step which will be to actually flash the rom. So normally when you flash a rom on an android device you're going to wipe data the rom developers that have made roms for this device so far say don't wipe data for some reason uh there are certain things that are stored there they don't want you to erase um so we're going to skip that step but check your roms individual developer page and see if they recommend the wipe or if they don't etc before you decide to skip that step or not.

For this rom, i know that we're supposed to so let's skip that. Go to Install from zip or installs it from sd card choose zip from sd card and then we're going to choose that zip file for the rom that we put on there earlier choose yes and wait for it to install okay eventually we'll say install from sd card complete. We're gonna push the power button to go back and then now we can push the end button to reboot system now and wait for it to reboot okay once it boots up you're running your custom rom so you can just play with that from here if you want to load another custom rom you don't have to do the whole procedure again you can just start where it says download the rom put it on the sd card boot into recovery and then flash the new rom again with the color a lot of the rom developers are saying don't wipe data before you flash a rom which is very different from other devices they always want you to wipe data so check with that into each individual rom developer and on their page and see if you're supposed to white before you flash the new rom but other than that you can flash as many as you want try different roms etc and enjoy
