Creating a Website with iWeb: A Step-by-Step Guide

To start creating a website with iWeb, open up your application and click on "New" to begin a new two-hour project. Once you've selected the template, click on "Text Box" at the bottom of the screen to add another text box to the middle of the page. This will allow you to type in whatever you want to display on your website.

You can also add shapes by clicking on the Shapes bar at the bottom of the screen. You'll see a variety of shapes that you can choose from, and you can resize them by dragging one of the handles on the corner. For example, let's say you want to add a triangle to your page. You can click on the triangle shape and move it around until you're happy with its position. You can also resize the triangle by dragging the handle on the corner.

If you want to create a secondary page for your website, simply go to the bottom toolbar and click "Add Page." A menu will appear, allowing you to choose from different types of pages. In this case, let's say you choose "About Me" and click "Choose." Instantly, you'll have another page that you can customize with text boxes, images, videos, and more.

To add an image or video to your page, simply drag it into the desired location using the mouse. You can also resize the image by dragging one of its handles. If you're adding a large file, such as a video, iWeb will give you a warning about potential download times. However, once you've added the file and clicked "Okay," you'll be able to play it directly on your page.

One of the best features of iWeb is how easily you can organize your pages with links. Every time you add a new page, a link appears at the top of the screen that allows you to navigate between pages quickly and easily. This means that you don't have to worry about linking pages together manually – iWeb takes care of it for you.

To publish your website, simply click on the name of your site in the top toolbar. A menu will appear with various publishing options. You can choose to rename your site, add a contact email address, and publish directly to your mobile me account (if applicable). If you don't have a mobile me account, you can also publish to an FTP server or a local folder on your hard drive.

Once you've selected your publishing option, click "Choose" to begin the publication process. For this example, let's say we choose "Local Folder." You'll be prompted to select your location, and in this case, we'll choose our desktop. Next, enter a website URL name (we'll leave this blank for now) and click "Publish."

iWeb will give you a warning that you're making sure you own all the files and copyrights of everything on your website. If you've created original content or obtained necessary permissions, click "Continue." The publication process may take some time depending on the size and complexity of your site.

Once your site has been published, iWeb will display a message confirming its completion. You can then click "Visit Site" to open your newly published site in Safari (or another compatible browser). Your website should appear exactly as you designed it, with all the pages and content intact.

To test out your website, simply navigate between the different pages by clicking on the links at the top of each page. For this example, let's say we start with the welcome page. If we click on "About Me," we'll see our customized about me page, complete with video, pictures, and more. the template site it gives you so this while this picture is nice you probably don't want it for your picture on your own website so you can drag pretty much any image in that you might have in a folder or on your desktop all you have to do is drag it and drop it right on top of the picture and it'll replace so for an example here I just have my desktop wallpaper and I can drag it in and and instantly that is a replaced the previous picture that was there and then I can use this slider here to decide which part of the image I would like to show now I can also edit the titles on here all I have to do is click on the title and then click again and it'll highlight the text in it and I can start typing so I can type welcome and maybe I just want to leave it at that little exclamation point so you can do that and then the same thing for these big larger text boxes I can just click on them once to select them and then click on them again to highlight it and then replace the text with what I want so right there welcome now I can also add another text box by going into my two our at the bottom here and clicking text box and you'll see a new text box pop up in the middle of the screen I can type in there whatever I want to type and then I can also move that text box wherever I would like to on the screen I can add a shape by clicking on the shapes bar at the bottom and you'll see all these different shapes I can add I can add a triangle here and I can move that around and I can even resize it by dragging one of these handles on the corner here and making it bigger or smaller so that's kind of neat and let's say I want to add a secondary page to my website all I have to do is go to my bottom toolbar here and click add page and this next bar will come down or this uh menu and photos so I have to do is drag in a video and drop it wherever I want it to go in this case in place of the picture and right here it'll give me a warning if the file is very big in this case it says it's 187 megabytes which is quite large and it might cause long download times so I can click okay and right in this place where the picture was or wherever you choose to put it is your video and you can play any video on in there so let's say a home movie or or something like that you can put in there and you can see at the top here every time you add a new page it puts a link to that page up here so I can click on about me when I'm on my website and I'll instantly go to that page so you don't have to worry about linking pages together or anything like that it does it all for you so once you have your page organized exactly the way you'd like it with text boxes and images and videos and things like that and you want to publish your site you have a couple different publishing options all you have to do is click on the name of your site up here in this case it's just name site and you have your publishing options so I can rename my site here and I'll call it uh my great site and
