2021 Ford Bronco _ First Look!

The Ford Bronco is back, and it's ready to take on the toughest off-road trails.

Ford has two different four-wheel drive systems available for the larger Bronco. The base system uses a two-speed electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case, which can switch between 2H and 4H modes as needed. However, if you opt for the advanced system, you get a two-speed electromechanical transfer case with an auto mode that can run between 2H and 4H as it determines is needed.

The Dana 44 solid rear axle lives out back and houses an available Spicer electronic locking differential. The bigger Bronco also features trail control, similar to the Broncos Sport, but also boasts a trail turn assist system that gives the Bronco a tighter turning radius by vectoring torque and applying the brakes as needed.

Now, let's get into the off-road specs of the Ford Bronco. While it may not have the same level of capability as some other off-roaders, such as the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, the Bronco is certainly no slouch in this department. It has an impressive 11.6 inches of ground clearance and can handle water up to 33.5 inches deep.

For those who opt for the four-door model with the optional 35-inch tires, the approach angle rises to a whopping 43.2 degrees. This is quite impressive, especially considering that it still only has an off-road rating of II.

The base engine of the Bronco is a 2-liter turbocharged inline-4, which produces a respectable 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. However, if you opt for the 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6, things get even more impressive, with 310 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

The engine can be paired with either a 7-speed manual gearbox or a 10-speed automatic transmission, depending on your preference. The manual transmission has six standard forward gears, but also features an additional crawler gear that gives you an excellent crawl ratio of 94.7:1 – more than the Jeep Wrangler's 84:1 max crawl ratio.

If you want to hear the engine more clearly, Ford suggests ditching the roof. The two-door Bronco comes standard with a three-panel removable roof, which can be removed by one person. For those who opt for the four-door model, there are also four removable sections, and Ford says all panels on both models can be removed by one person.

On the interior, you'll find a cloth soft top as standard, but you can also option it with a hard top if you wish. The four-door Bronco even features frameless doors that make removal simple – and keep your side mirrors securely attached to the body of the truck.

When it comes to customization, Ford has well over 100 dealer-installed accessories available for both the two-door and four-door Broncos. And for those who want to take their Bronco even further off-road, they'll be keeping an eye out for a future Bronco Raptor model that promises to be truly amazing.

For now, though, reservations are open for all three models: the two-door Bronco starts at $29,999.95, while the four-door model begins at $34,095.
