iOS 16.3 Final Changes, Don't Listen to Apple about AirTags, iPhone 15 Pro Max & More

**Apple's Latest Developments: Mixed Reality Headsets and iPhone 15 Pro Series**

Shipments of Apple's mixed reality headset are expected to begin in February to March of 2023, according to supply chain makers. This news suggests that the launch of this product is not too far away, and many are eagerly anticipating its release. The mixed reality headset combines both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) features, making it a highly anticipated device for those interested in exploring new technologies.

However, Apple's AR glasses, which have been in development for some time, are no longer expected to be released anytime soon. Bloomberg reports that the company has postponed its development indefinitely due to technical challenges. The report states that Apple had originally hoped to release the AR glasses after the debut of its mixed reality headset but has now put those plans on hold.

In their place, Apple will follow up with a lower-cost version of the mixed reality headset, which is expected to be released in 2024 or early 2025. The company aims to reduce the price of this device by using chips that are comparable to those found in iPhones, rather than the more expensive components used in higher-end Mac computers. This move will allow Apple to compete with Meta's mixed reality headset, which costs $1,500.

The lower-cost version of the mixed reality headset is expected to be a major hit, as it will offer many of the same features as the original device but at a significantly lower price point. By the time this device is released, the infrastructure for AR technology will already be in place, and people will have a better understanding of what is possible with devices like this. As a result, Apple's lower-cost mixed reality headset has the potential to become a massive hit.

**iPhone 15 Pro Series: Periscope Lens and New Design**

A new report from theElect reaffirms that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only phone to receive the highly anticipated Periscope lens. This feature is expected to provide an even better zooming experience for users, as light is reflected by an angled mirror towards the camera's image sensor. The change in direction of the light allows for a longer folded telephoto setup inside phones, which enables users to zoom in further without any blurriness.

The report also states that both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models will receive this feature next year. Apple is currently seeking new suppliers for the OIS actuators that will be used in this lens, indicating a significant upgrade for the camera system on these devices.

**Apple Watch Saves Lives: A Heartbeat Alert**

A recent story highlights the importance of Apple's ECG monitor, which was able to detect a serious pregnancy complication and save both lives. A pregnant Los Angeles woman had a few weeks left until her due date but did not experience any activities that would raise her heart rate above 120 beats per minute. However, her Apple watch began sending alerts indicating that her heart rate was high.

Initially, the woman thought this was strange, but when it happened for a third time shortly after, she knew something was wrong. She quickly headed to the hospital and was told by doctors that she was in labor due to a pregnancy complication that could have been fatal. The Apple watch's ECG monitor had alerted her to the issue, allowing her to receive timely medical attention.

**Lost Dog Found with Apple AirTag**

In another heartwarming story, an Apple AirTag helped locate a lost dog in California during recent flooding. A dog was swept away by the floodwaters and spotted for a mile by witnesses before it disappeared from view. The dog's owners did not use the Apple guidance against attaching an air tag to their pet's collar.

Instead, they attached one anyway, which ultimately proved invaluable in locating their beloved pet. Firefighters were able to track down the lost dog using the AirTag, and it was found safe and sound in a nearby access tube, far from its home. This story showcases the potential of Apple's AirTags as lifesaving devices, even if they are not always intended for use on pets.

**Upcoming Updates: iOS 16.3**

Finally, the article mentions upcoming updates to iOS 16.3, which will be covered in future episodes. The exact details and features of this update are still unknown, but it promises to bring new changes and improvements to Apple's popular mobile operating system. As usual, subscribers can look forward to comprehensive coverage of these updates and more on both iOS 16.3 and all of Apple's latest products.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and welcome back to Apple weekly this past week was full of surprise releases both for hardware and for software so in this episode we're going to talk about iOS 16.3 and the rest of the software and Hardware to expect next week then after talking about that we're going to discuss yet another new Mac coming later this year Apple's upcoming reality Pro headset and why the future is limited more details on the iPhone 15 Pro Max camera setup why you should put an air tag on your dog and much more and as always if you guys want to stay updated with all things Apple make sure to click that subscribe button down below so you don't miss next week's episode all right let's start by talking about iOS 16.3 so this past week we did get the RC or release candidate build and then next week we will get the final public release now the reason this came a little bit earlier than expected myself and Mark Gman pretty much everybody expected this to come in February or March the reason it came early is because of course Apple did announce those new products so the new Max and the new homod anytime Apple announces new hardware that does mean that new software is going to follow just before those new products get released or just after the new products get released anyways let's briefly cover some of the new features in 16.3 that we're going to see next week now the first thing I wanted to mention is the new Unity wallpaper so this is the new one right here and of course we do have this Unity wallpaper as well that has been there since iOS 16 this is the new one right here this is the new one for 16.3 and it is pretty cool because you can go to customize right here and change up the different colors you will also notice that we have this really heavy font so we have this really heavy font here that is exclusive to the unity wallpapers and it looks really nice on here now also apple is apparently going to be re-releasing the home architecture upgrade that we originally saw in 16.2 but they had to pull it because of all the issues we are going to apparently see that re-released here in 16.3 however if you already upgraded your home architecture your probably not going to see The Prompt for that so I already upgraded mine with 16.2 so I'm not seeing the prompt right there I'm not sure if there's going to be a second one or what but we could see that by the time the official version rolls out to the public now we also have a ton of new features for the homepods as well so the original homepod the homepod mini and the brand new homepod second generation that just got announced so tons of new features in 16.3 one of the big ones of course is going to be if we go into let's just say office for example we can see up top here we have our temperature and our humidity that is from the sensor in the homepod mini so that apparently has been there ever since it got released but it was never activated until 16.3 now obviously just being able to see the climate is not a huge deal but if you go to automations here and go to the plus and go to add automation you could actually set automations based around the humidity or the temperature so for example in my master bathroom you can see if the humidity goes way up I can have that trigger something like this so if it rises above let's just say like you know 55% and you could set the time you could set people so if that happens you can have it set to you know perform any other action so when humidity Rises about 55% you could have the AC go on you could have you know a homepod stop playing you could do a bunch of different things here in the automations which is pretty cool especially since it's kind of a bonus with the homepod mini it's been there all along the new homepod and the homepod mini both also have sound recognition however that's not going to be activated until a later software update Apple said sometime in the spring so it looks like you know if you bought a homepod mini you're getting a lot of features that you didn't even know were there you're starting to see those get activated which is actually pretty crazy especially for just a $100 product like the homepod mini but I'm here for it Apple also activated Advanced Data protection globally now so it's not just available in the US and Canada you now have access to Advanced Data protection worldwide so if you want to encrypt all of your data that's backed up via iCloud now you can do that regardless of the country you live in and for those of you who still care about Apple music classical the code has been modified in iOS 16.3 and the RC build so we may see that Apple music classical application or the add-on to the Apple music application sometime shortly but I feel like the hype for that if there really was any to begin with has kind of dwindled since we've heard about it for so long and we've not seen anything get released now a lot of users are also seeing connection issues with their Siri remote so if you have an Apple TV and a Siri remote a lot of users have been reporting connectiv ity issues where they would just lose connection and that's still going on with 16.3 RC so hopefully we do see a fix for that soon after 16.3 drops Also earlier this week we got a new update for airpods airpods pro and airpods Max so not the airpods Pro 2 just the original airpods which is pretty interesting but anyways this new firmware is 5B 59 and the release notes just say bug fixes and other improvements so Apple has been better about telling us what's new in these airpod software updates or firmware updates but for this one they don't mention anything specifically now of course the biggest news from this past week was easily the new Macbook Pros Mac Mini and the new homepod so we did get the announcement of the M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pros both 14 and 16 in and the M2 and M2 Pro Mac Mini along with the home pod second generation now the interesting thing about these products is they were actually set to be released late last year but they got scrapped and delayed until just this past week and this was figured out by looking at the file names for the videos on Apple's website which all referen the year 2022 so it looks like the videos you know that were made for these products Were Meant To Be inserted into a previous Apple event maybe the October Apple event that we just saw and as I posted on Twitter I will be buying all of these new Apple products and reviewing them over the coming weeks now if you are a Twitter user and you use a third-party Twitter client you may have noticed that it just no longer works anymore and that's because Twitter officially killed off all third-party Twitter clients so this is pretty unfortunate for a lot of great applications Twitter Ric tweetbot all the great applications out there that were you know thirdparty clients for Twitter are now just gone now I did also want to briefly touch on the battery life and the performance here on 16.3 the RC build because I've gotten a lot of kind of mixed reactions to battery life so battery life for me has been okay it's been pretty much the exact same as 16.2 honestly I've not been able to tell any difference at all but some users are saying that the battery life has just been terrible so let me know in a comment down below what your battery life has been like but as far as performance goes pretty much everybody says the performance is better than it was on 16.2 and I would agree I don't have as many UI bugs and I also don't have you know any type of stutter when going back to the home screen from an application like I did in 16.2 and previous versions all right so now let's talk about what to expect next from Apple so next week is going to be a big week so the 23rd is going to be Monday that is when I would expect to see iOS 16.3 get released to the general public so the final public release most likely going to be right there on Monday the 23rd and then the very next day is when we're going to see the brand new Apple products and we're going to see the new MacBooks and the new Mac Mini now the new homepod is not coming until February the first week of February February 3rd right there on Friday so next week we're only getting the new Mac products now as far as iOS 16.4 the first beta for that could honestly come as early as Tuesday the 24th the same day that the Macs are getting released we could see that as early as then if we don't see 16.4 beta 1 next week we will definitely see it the following week and that should be the update where we see new emoji and quite a few more changes than we saw in 16.3 although I would not expect that to be pushed out to the public until March all right so now let's move on to the latest Apple news so next week we are getting the new Macbook Pros and Mac minis but what about the MacBook Air well that's coming later this year as well and now we have more details on it according to a new report from Digi times apple is planning to release a new Macbook Air in the second half of this year and it will be equipped with the long awaited 3 nanometer chip this likely being the M3 chip this chip is set to improve performance and power efficiency over Apple's current 5 nmet chips and to add further validity to this mingch quo just recently reported that the 2024 MacBook Pros will have this 3 nanometer chip as well he said this I expect the next new Macbook Pro Models which will adopt M3 Pro and M3 Max processors made by 3 nanometer will go into mass production in the first half of 2024 so mass production in the first half of the Year means we can probably expect a release shortly after like l in the spring around WWDC time now quo also talks about the 2024 Mac Mini saying quote my new prediction for the next new Mac Mini is similar to the one I made about 10 months ago I think the new Mac Mini in 2024 will likely Remain the similar form factor design so I guess we can kind of give up on that new you know plexiglass style design that we heard about a lot last year that doesn't seem to be in the works anymore for apple and then speaking of 2024 Bloomberg just reported that a new Apple TV will also launch next year with a faster chipset inside but that is not all because according to German apple is also working on an ipad-like display for controlling Smart Homes the report says this the push into smart displays will start with a tablet product essentially a low-end iPad that can control things like thermostats and lights show video and handle FaceTime chats the product could be mounted on walls or elsewhere using magnetic Fasteners position it as more of a home Gadget than a regular iPad so basically apple is looking to launch what I consider a Smart Hub that's better than anything out there right now and I'm definitely here for that of course as you can see I have a whole smart home set up right here so I would love to see apple launch that now moving on to the biggest Apple product coming in 2023 the reality Pro headset according to digi times the main supplier for the headset lenses will begin shipments as early as next month they said this genius electronic Optical AKA gso will supply lens modules for VR head-mounted devices to be launched by Apple and 2023 with shipments to begin in February to March of 2023 according to the supply chain makers and we all know what that means a launch of this product is not too far away and I personally cannot wait for this product I think it's going to surprise pretty much everybody I think it's going to be so much bigger than people even imagine right now so you know that's for the AR VR heads set that mixed reality headsets but the AR glasses that Apple has been working on are unfortunately not expected anytime soon as they just postpone development on those AR glasses indefinitely so Bloomberg reports that this is due to technical challenges saying quote the company had originally hoped to release the AR glasses after the debut of its mixed reality headset which combines both AR and virtual reality but that part of the plan is now on hold instead Apple will follow up with a lower cost version of the mixed reality headset as soon as 2024 or early 2025 apple is aiming to lower the price of the follow-up mixed reality device by using chips on par with those in the iPhone rather than the components found in higher-end Mac computers the company will be competing with meta's mixed reality headset which cost $1,500 that's a price Apple May strive to get closer to with its lower-end model so while those glasses are on pause at least apple is still working on a lower cost version of of the mixed reality headset and that is the one that I think might end up becoming a massive hit especially you know because by that time the infrastructure is going to be laid out and people are going to know what's possible with this type of device and it's going to be cheaper so I can see this being huge now moving on to the iPhone 15 Pro Series a new report from the elect reaffirms what we've heard about the highly anticipated Periscope lens and that is that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only phone to receive this big camera upgrade but that both the 16 pro and pro Max models will get this next year now they're calling this a quote folded Zoom Periscope lens and apple is looking for new suppliers for the ois actuators that will be used in this lens now if you don't know what a periscope lens is and how it works basically light that enters the telephoto lens is reflected by an angled mirror towards the camera's image sensor the change in direction in which the light travels allows for a longer folded telephoto setup inside phones which allows you to zoom in further without any blurriness now we all know how important the Apple watch is for monitoring and detecting irregularities with your heart and you know pretty much anything else on your body and now we have another story to further hit that point home and that's because a pregnant Los Angeles woman had a few weeks left until her due date and was not doing any activity that would raise her heart rate above 120 BPS however her Apple watch kept alerting her that her heart rate was high she said quote it went off the first time and I thought it was strange then a second time maybe 10 minutes later and then a third time shortly after and that's when she realized something was going on so she headed straight to the hospital and sure enough when there doctors told her that she was in labor and she'd been losing blood due to a pregnancy complication which was a serious and potentially fatal condition but since her Apple watch informed her of this complication she was able to make it to the hospital in time and doctors were able to deliver her baby girl safely so that ECG monitor literally saved both lives that day amazing and then finally another feel-good story related to an Apple tracking device this time an air tag so you've probably heard about the terrible flooding in California over the past couple of weeks and lots of animals and even people have been swept away by these Waters well one dog was swept Downstream and spotted by Witnesses for a mile until he just disappeared appeared but thankfully the owners did what Apple says not to do they attached an air tag to the pup's collar and sure enough firefighters were able to locate him due to that air tag and he was found in an access tube far away from home that's crazy so even though Apple says not to put air tags on pets I mean I say in certain conditions it's actually a smart thing to put an air tag on your pet's collar for situations just like this one so there you have it that is the latest dis batch of apple news from this past week along with some updates on the iOS 16.3 update I hope you guys enjoyed this episode as always if you did I would appreciate if you give it a thumbs up also make sure to subscribe for a lot more coverage coming next week on both iOS 16.3 and all of Apple's new products but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see you soon ohwhat's up guys my name is Brandon and welcome back to Apple weekly this past week was full of surprise releases both for hardware and for software so in this away from home that's crazy so even though Apple says not to put air tags on pets I mean I say in certain conditions it's actually a smart thing to put an air tag on your pet's collar for situations just like this one so there you have it that is the latest dis batch of apple news from this past week along with some updates on the iOS 16.3 update I hope you guys enjoyed this episode as always if you did I would appreciate if you give it a thumbs up also make sure to subscribe for a lot more coverage coming next week on both iOS 16.3 and all of Apple's new products but anyways guys thanks again for watching and I'll see you soon oh\n"
