There's Something VERY Wrong With the AirPods Max Battery...
My Experience with Phantom Drain Battery Life in AirPods Max
I want to get this out of the way before I proceed with this next part because it's important to know that I really do think these are incredible over-ear headphones, however, over the last few days I've started to notice something that's extremely concerning. My AirPods Max are going through some very serious phantom drain battery life has been absolutely horrendous and I'm not entirely sure why. In fact, I noticed this about a week ago when my AirPods Max went from around 60 percent down to one percent overnight without using them and then again from 99% full charge to one percent in two days without me using them at all. Then I came across an article on MacRumors.com, maybe you guys have heard of it, and I saw something that kind of backs up my claims. It's not just me, something is going on here and something is causing everyone or some people's battery life to mysteriously drain very quickly on the AirPods Max.
So I wanted to make this video to let you know that you're not alone if you're having these issues and hopefully these issues become more significant so that Apple will take some action here and hopefully have answers for us. I'm hoping this is a software bug of some kind that can be easily fixed but without being able to physically turn your headphones off, it's kind of unclear where exactly you can pinpoint this issue. Now, a few readers have claimed that battery drain has been significant during use and some have claimed that it's been bad when not in use which is what I'm experiencing.
As you can see here, one user said they used their AirPods Max for about 15 minutes with 85% battery and then they put it down and went to bed. The next day, they got a notification after putting them back in the case that their AirPods only had five percent battery which is a huge drain. Now, putting the AirPods Max back in the case should disconnect them from any nearby devices and place them in a low power mode immediately as opposed to waiting five minutes when not in the case. If you leave them untouched, so if you take them off your head and you place them down on your desk which is what I just did right now, the AirPods Max will stay on for about five minutes and then if they're untouched, they're meant to go into a low power mode for three days after which if they remain untouched, they will go into an ultra-low power mode and this will cut off Bluetooth and find my so that there's nothing really connecting itself to the headphones and should hopefully preserve battery life as much as possible.
So again, some users now believe the issue might be related to AirPods Max not actually disconnecting from devices when either placed in the case or if you put them down on your desk after five minutes they go into the low power mode and that's not actually happening because other devices nearby are still connected. I'm hoping that's the case too as that seems to be what I'm experiencing now. I store these headphones in a spot where at any given moment, there are a few different iPhones, iPads, and Macs and sometimes they're actually in use at the same time and because the headphones can automatically switch between multiple devices, that's what's getting me to maybe think that these headphones are not going into any kind of low power mode because they're constantly trying to ping back and forth between the different devices that I might use in this room.
And so, it's preventing it from going into low power mode at least that's what I hope is happening and that's a software bug and that could be easily fixed in theory. Now, as I just mentioned and I want to note this again, I have not been putting these headphones back into the case or the other case that should mimic the same functionality and put it in low power mode immediately. I've actually just been taking them off and putting them on a headphone stand or putting them down on my desk which is supposed to according to Apple put it in a low power mode after five minutes of them not being in use.
So, I will try to put them back in its smart case and keep an eye on it more now that I have realized that other people are having this issue and hopefully I'll have an update and can update you guys with some good news. But as of right now, this is what's currently happening. I would love to know in the comments down below if this is happening to you. And hopefully in the near future, Apple will have an update on this problem because for $550, you shouldn't be losing battery that quickly.
So, be sure to subscribe to the channel so you don't miss any potential updates on these headphones or any other videos that we might have in the future. And this has been Dan with MacRumors, thanks so much for watching and I hope to see you around in the next video
