Last Minute S15 Rebuild (UPDATE)

The Art of Rebuilding a Engine: A Step-by-Step Guide

When it comes to rebuilding an engine, it's essential to have a solid understanding of the process and the tools required. The author starts by explaining that they will be following a specific thread on their first engine build, which makes the process easier to follow. They emphasize the importance of being patient and taking their time when working with critical components.

The First Step: Installing the Cylinder Head

The first step in rebuilding an engine is installing the cylinder head. The author explains that this is one of the most critical parts of the process, as it requires precise alignment and torque specifications to ensure optimal performance. They demonstrate how to thread the washer onto the head and then install the gasket, making it easier for others to follow along.

Torquing the Cylinder Head

Next, the author discusses the importance of torquing the cylinder head. This process is critical in ensuring that the engine runs smoothly and efficiently. The author explains that they will be using a three-stage approach to torque the cylinder head, with specific foot-pound values for each stage: 430 pounds, followed by 60 pounds, then 90 pounds, and finally 100 pounds.

The Valve Train Installation

After the cylinder head is installed, the next step is to install the valve train. This includes installing the lifter caps, camshafts, and cam gears. The author explains that they will be using a specific torque wrench for this process, as well as various other tools to ensure precise alignment.

The Timing System Installation

Once the valve train is installed, the next step is to install the timing system. This includes installing the timing marks on the crankshaft and ensuring that everything is properly aligned. The author explains that they will be using a specific tool to mark the timing marks, as well as a special camera system to ensure accurate alignment.

The Exhaust System Installation

After the timing system is installed, the next step is to install the exhaust system. This includes installing the camshaft and exhaust manifold, as well as ensuring that all connections are properly tightened. The author explains that they will be using specific torque values for this process, including 259 pounds for the exhaust manifold and 14 pounds for the camshaft.

The Camshaft Installation

Next, the author discusses the installation of the camshaft. This includes installing the cam gears and ensuring that everything is properly aligned. They explain that they will be using a specific torque wrench for this process, as well as various other tools to ensure precise alignment.

Lubricating the Engine

Once all the components are installed, it's essential to lubricate the engine. The author explains that they will be using a specialized lubricant to coat the valves and journals on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. They emphasize the importance of ensuring that everything is properly lubricated for optimal performance.

The Final Touches

After the engine is assembled and lubricated, the final step is to add any additional components or accessories. The author explains that they will be using a specific type of fuel filter and fuel injector to ensure proper engine performance.

A Word on Safety Precautions

Throughout the process, it's essential to follow safety precautions to avoid injury or damage to the engine. The author emphasizes the importance of wearing protective gear, including gloves and safety glasses, as well as ensuring that the work area is properly ventilated.

The Importance of Tuning

Once the engine is assembled and installed, it's essential to tune the engine for optimal performance. The author explains that they will be using a specialized tuning system to ensure that the engine runs smoothly and efficiently. They emphasize the importance of monitoring the engine's performance and making adjustments as needed to achieve optimal results.

The Author's Experience

Throughout the process, the author shares their own experiences and insights, including tips and tricks for overcoming common challenges. They also discuss their own mistakes and how they learned from them.

A Personal Note

Finally, the author takes a moment to share some personal thoughts on rebuilding an engine. They explain that this project has been a labor of love, and that it's not just about building an engine, but about creating something with your own hands.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys good morning my new motto has been to drive basically gt3 whatever the weather is not raining and under 90 degrees so it's not totally brutal so I've been enjoying it a lot I got my coffee we're headed to the warehouse one of the first things that I'm gonna tackle is fixing up the s15 rear end mainly the taillights right now so underneath this tape if you guys remember we actually broke the tab on the headlight this video today was sponsored by Idol heroes which I'll talk about in about a minute when I had that rear-end impact I just kind of flexed everything in the tab wound up breaking so I'm gonna pull it off and then we'll be able to glue it all back together and then hopefully it'll hold strong we do have some replacements of these coming in but I do want to fix this one up just so we have a backup you could also use a good cleaning too what's nice is it broke off kind of clean to where if I use some sort of plastic glue and I can get it to you know kind of sit in place I think it'll actually stay so we won't have to do anything special behold it obviously gonna go ahead and clean it all off first so we can get a good bonding surface this plastic welder that we're gonna use has a working time of 5 minutes in a fix your time of 10 minutes so get some of that on there mix just enough of this stuff nice little black smells great alright so I got the plastic adhesive on there and then hopefully this will tack it in place it's all set now and all I got to do is wait for it to dry and while we wait for it to dry I've got a pretty fun iPhone game we can play so this part of the video was sponsored by a mobile game called Idol heroes which conveniently enough is a great way to kill some time you can play this game anytime anywhere it doesn't really matter what you're doing if you're just chilling it's a great way to pass the time hang out and just have some fun the aim of the game is to assemble a group of heroes and continually improve and equip them with new items and with your heroes fight to be carried out repeatedly will to bring you different rewards even when you're not around you don't need a ton of time to play either their daily tasks that take just five minutes all you get to bring in the battle is some strategy there's six factions in the game with over 300 heroes definitely click the link in the description download it for free go check it out for yourself it's a lot of fun and I would like to personally give a massive thank you to idol heroes for sponsoring this video thank you guys it means a lot it's definitely dry now and hard but I'm gonna give it some time for it to cure even more before I go and put it back on the car now this finally came in we ordered it a while ago but if you guys remember having those issue with my s13 I thought it would be fixed by getting a power brace for it this thing looks used doesn't it huh alright I mean I don't really care but I feel like we should get a discount it's definitely been used hikes I mean I'm cool with it but like that sucks so if you guys notice the difference with this we were having the issue where the tension rod brackets were flexing so these are come already boxed in from the factory and they have an additional brace here that connects the two or if you look at the stock ones there's no brace in the middle and these are open so that's why we were having all that flexing which might have been why I was getting all those weird binding issues Walla Bertos doing engine stuff me and Pat are going to tag-team s13 and try to get this thing back in tip-top shape because I do want to drive it this weekend a bit they come fully balanced and black anodized and they're RIT and they have a different oil cap this does not look right oh my god I'm so upset we got a used one oh I'm so upset that's when oh I was really pumped cuz we were awesome I was like getting excited they sent me a used power brakes that's not even the right size that's probably why you got White's used because I hug both over their car nose it didn't fit lucky enough we were able to find another power brace that should hopefully be here tomorrow or overnighting it again in the meantime Elbert has been going hard on the 2j if you notice it's almost all back together he's in filming a few clips to that'll insert in the video right here today spirit 3.4 litre chocolate that we got from Thailand I just want to picked up the head from mass work so the heads ready to go so I'll clean off new seals everything so now I got fresh om to your head gets put on this consists covered if I clean the block is ready to go I want anything foreign falling inside the engine so yeah basically you have our nice 3.4 liter block is 1001 compression 3.4 liter of displacement so this thing is make gonna make like all the torque that as we use he can produce so let's get started let's get this head out of the box here we have the head back from mass works I just went over everything make sure is top-notch everything has to be perfectly clean no debris and then after that I area with the air hose make sure it's all good particle free the block is also all fresh and clean ready to go so now I just gotta slap a new head gasket put the head on and then put the big air pieces in it this time around we are going to be using our OEM to your multi-layer steel head gasket which is the best classical available for this wretch little nice seal cats get ready to go open this thing take over packaging hard right perfect I already had installed the opens on the block then take ask us in while it to do is align the hangar that head perfect for the studs it makes it a lot easier psi loop the tip or the stud like the first thread then you put the knot you straight on the first threads just a little bit not a whole lot and then you just put the washer on the head and just like this start with the not already in it so it makes it a lot easier to put this thing together you see now with the knot in place you can just simply lower all them into place and we're gonna slowly thread their stuffs all the way down Michael is one of the most critical parts of the whole bill torquing the cylinder head these studs go toward to 100 foot pounds so we're gonna do instead of three stages we're gonna do 430 then another 60 then 90 then a final hundred pound pass we're doing the first 30 right now this one primary of seats that had evenly nice and gentle all right guys the head is toward 200 pounds for next part which is going to be installing the valve train which consists of put in the lifter caps was in this case or solid then the camshafts can caps then the cam gears for kids or before that I have to put the little plate goes in front of the head then I count ears and tiny milk now run you guys down on what I'm gonna be the one on the head also with some torque specs here I have an assortment of torque wrenches this is update torrents I use this will be a half inch one to talk all the bigger bolts then I have here are 3/8 torque wrench that I will be using to torque the cam caps and then this little one right here is a quarter Drive I will be using to torque down the little tiny two bolts on the cam cap on the BB TI sprocket on the vvt-i intake cam then I wrote down here for you guys the torque specs that I'm gonna be using so they can cap on the exhaust this regular one will be torque 259 pounds the cam caps go to 14 pounds the camp the camp bolt for the vvt-i sprocket goes to 60 foot pounds and then the little cap rotor goes to 11 and then a little tiny can cap bolts goes to 44 inches and that's why using this little tiny guy right here now we lubricate the top of the valves and each journal for the camshaft side pretty much a drop on everything make sure is all properly lubed up the lift or cap so sir numbered the suits in take six of in one two three four five six and some goes right here in things fire now we add lubricant over those as well now the camshafts going to the exhaust camshaft the intake temperature is controlled and that we're pretty much torquing down these caps to 14 foot pounds we got the complete valve trim installed I got everything set up you can see timing marks are right where they go very simple then on the crankshaft it also has a little tongue mark down there in the middle and we're good to go now although I got left is to torque the cam police to their corresponding torque specs to their corresponding torque specs and then you can see everything up here is all nice and loop with this right assembly Lube so from ECU master this time around to be even safer than we were before we went ahead and actually got individual egt probes so Alberto's gonna weld in some bongs to each runner that way we can individually monitor cylinder temperature and then better adjust when we go to tuning to make sure all the cylinders are equal we can be as safe as we possibly can well everything's off the car I thought it'd be a good opportunity to polish up the radiator a lot of the degreaser and stuff kind of gets at it and makes it look Nikki so if I can try to keep it looking nice it'll be a lot better looks pretty intricate today see the thing is this taillights absolutely gonna go back in the wall but what did you say if body panel comes flying off your car you get a zero yeah but still if I was driving down grid and this tail light flew off oh yeah so only the best plastic welding you alone here if you've noticed videos have been kind of weird and confusing when it comes to editing main problem for that is because technically speaking I'm a day ahead right now which really would be a great thing because it makes it way more relaxing but I've kind of been forgetting what I've been filming and then getting lost so tonight I'm gonna try to get caught up in edit to videos so I'm gonna go treat myself to some early pizza instead of eating junk food super super late at night and just go trying to have the editing party so I can get caught up and stop being confused on what I filmed what I haven't and what day it is in this internet world of mine sorry this thing actually makes a great daily because it's on my only cars it still runs on pump gas and it sounds coolhi guys good morning my new motto has been to drive basically gt3 whatever the weather is not raining and under 90 degrees so it's not totally brutal so I've been enjoying it a lot I got my coffee we're headed to the warehouse one of the first things
