Dell Inspiron 5493 Disassembly Benchmark & Review

**Dell Inspiron 5493 Disassembly and Performance Review: A Comprehensive Walkthrough**

---

### Introduction

In this detailed guide, we delve into the world of laptop internals by disassembling a Dell Inspiron 5493. This process provides an in-depth look at its components, revealing insights into its build quality, performance capabilities, and potential for upgrades.

### The Disassembling Process

Starting with the tools needed—just a screwdriver and a pry tool—we begin by removing the nine screws securing the laptop's base. Gently prying open the edges, we expose the internal components, highlighting the ease of access despite some clips not fitting snugly.

### Internal Components Overview

Inside the Dell Inspiron 5493, you'll find:

- **CPU and Cooling System**: A tenth-generation Intel i5 processor is at the heart, with a fan and heat pipe ensuring efficient cooling.

- **Memory Slots**: Equipped with 8GB RAM, one slot is populated, leaving room for expansion.

- **Storage Options**: The laptop features an M.2 SSD slot, currently housing a Crucial P1 1TB drive, offering fast performance at an affordable price.

### Addressing Issues

The video highlights issues faced during disassembly:

- **Trackpad Connector Problem**: A malfunctioning trackpad connector is diagnosed and fixed by carefully reattaching it.

- **Battery Removal**: The battery is easily removed using a screwdriver, revealing the necessary steps for replacement or inspection.

### Build Quality and Assembly Details

The build quality is noted to be decent but not corporate-grade. The laptop's case, assembled by Nemco, uses plastic, making it lightweight yet sturdy. This insight is valuable for users considering durability against higher-end models.

### Ports and Peripherals

The Dell Inspiron 5493 boasts a variety of ports:

- **Expansion Options**: Includes an SD card slot, USB 2.0 port, and a SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0) slot.

- **Connectivity**: Features HDMI, network, headphone jack, and power light, catering to both everyday use and multimedia needs.

### Software Setup and Benchmarking

Post-disassembly, the laptop undergoes software updates:

- **OS Update**: Running on Windows 10 1909, unnecessary Dell bloatware is removed.

- **Security Adjustments**: Wireless networking and Windows Defender are temporarily disabled for benchmarking purposes.

- **Performance Testing**: NovaBench benchmarks reveal impressive scores, surpassing traditional HDDs but falling short of premium SSDs. The Crucial P1 proves effective for everyday tasks.

### Performance Comparison and Conclusion

The Dell Inspiron 5493 delivers excellent performance for its price point, especially with upgrades like the Crucial P1. Priced at around $800 Canadian, it offers great value for general use, making it a solid choice for budget-conscious users.
