IS THIS THE ULTIMATE CHARGING DOCK

STM's Portable Wireless Charger Review

We were sent this review sample without charge by STM and we're free to give our unbiased and honest opinion on it. We were not required to return it, but we only accepted it because of that condition. STM doesn't get to see the video before it goes live and they don't get to make any changes now. This is quite a nice looking thing; it's nicely made and it's covered in that kind of rubberized plastic, so it has that nice soft touch feel to it.

Very nice, this is the white one obviously, but it's also available in Black if you prefer that. This is a really neat unit because it just folds up like this and then we've got space to pop our phone on and you've got a big wireless charging pad here, but you'll notice also behind we've got space for our AirPods and then here on the side, a slide out charging point for our Apple Watch. So what a neat solution and one of the nicest things about this is when you fold it up like this, it still works so if you've still got it plugged into a charger and you've got it on your desk, it still works as a wireless charging pad.

Now it's a key Qi-compatible unit; never sure how to say that, so I'm guessing it'll work with any phone not just iPhones. Although they do say that it supports iPhone 8 onwards, I think that's when the wireless charging started. All of the Apple Watch models are supported, as well as any Wireless-enabled AirPods cases and then also AirPods Pro first, second, and third generation are all supported. In case you're wondering, this main charging pad is a 15-watt charging pad, and the latest Apple phones can take 15 watts that means you're going to get a fast wireless charge.

The watch charger is 3 watts, and then the AirPods charger is 5 Watts; so you do need a charging brick that's capable of supplying that much power. So, what that means in real terms is a 20-watt or above USB-C charger that's what you're going to need for this. The charge tree has a rubber foot on the bottom which holds it nice and secure on top of the table; you can see I can shake the whole table with that, and of course, if you've got it folded up, that rubber pad is still in contact with the table so it's not sliding around anywhere.

You've then got a rubber pad at the bottom here to sit your phone on, and that applies pretty good grip onto your phone; that seems pretty sturdy on there. Likewise, the same sort of rubber finish where your AirPods case goes. Really like the fact that this just folds up so neatly that you could fit it in your bag for travel and of course, you've got that nice carry bag to stop it from getting scratched up whilst you're traveling.

It doesn't weigh too much; if we can find the weight on the spec sheet, we'll pop that up on the screen. But generally speaking, overall there's a lot to like about this product. But we did find one little bone of contention and that's with the uh the watch charging here when you pop your watch on it, it doesn't stay upright; I guess that's just the nature of the slippy plastic that it's made out of. I mean it's secure on there, the magnets are on, and it works, but just a bit of a shame that it it moves around like that.

So yeah, I mean that's the only disappointing thing. Especially as sem go into detail on their website about how they've designed it to be at just the right angle so that your watch will work in nightstand mode; but I guess does it matter if the watch is slightly crooked when you're looking at it through sleepy eyes? You know, you be the judge of that. Overall, I think this is really quite nice. The build quality feels good; typical for STM products frankly, they always seem to be fairly well made; feels like it's going to last, doesn't feel like it's about to fall apart.

And uh, it feels like someone's really thought this one through; I like the LED light they're on the side of the watch charger there's one on the bottom as well. I think this is the ideal portable wireless charger have it on your nightstand, pack it into your bag, take it to the office, take it away with you when you're traveling. It's small enough to do that very neatly; nice job and the price for this is 119.95 so that's the recommended retail price on STM's website. We'll have a look around and see if we can find that any cheaper and we'll pop some links in the description as always, and uh hope you enjoyed this little video; thanks for watching, see you again soon for some more geekery stuff.
