Homemade Cold-Cut Po' Boy Recipe

Welcome Back to Love Your Food: A Quick and Simple Recipe for Cold-Cut Po-Boys

We are back with another quick and super simple recipe for you, this time focusing on cold-cut po-boys. This method is based on a recipe from a restaurant that Chef Caleb is really familiar with down in Houston, Texas, and it's very similar to the kind that you would be able to get at that restaurant. The best part is that it takes no time at all to prepare.

We've got our ingredients ready for this recipe. We'll need some light and fluffy rolls, provolone cheese, a few different kinds of cold cuts, pimentos, and mayonnaise. Chef Caleb prefers the lighter kind of roll, something like a regular bun or a potato roll, but it's up to personal preference. The rolls are popped in the toaster first to get them nice and warm on the outside while keeping the inside fluffy.

To start assembling our po-boy, we'll smear some mayonnaise on the rolls. We're using a mild mayo for this recipe, but feel free to switch it up with something like avocado or hummus if you prefer. Next, we'll add some of the pimentos to give it a bit of flavor and texture. The pimentos are used sparingly in this recipe, just enough to add a pop of color and flavor.

Now that our base is set, let's talk about the toppings. This is where you can get creative with your cold-cut po-boy. We're using a combination of ham and two different kinds of salami: spicy Genoa and mild beef salami. The hot Genoa adds a nice kick to this sandwich, while the mild beef salami provides a bit of sweetness. You can alternate between these two types of salami for added visual interest.

Of course, you can customize your cold-cut po-boy however you like. If you prefer roast beef or another type of meat, go ahead and use it. The same applies to the cheese; something mild like provolone or havarti works well in this recipe. Feel free to mix and match different cheeses for a unique flavor profile.

One of the best things about this recipe is that it's easy to make ahead of time. Simply assemble the sandwich as instructed, place it on a baking sheet or plate, and refrigerate until you're ready to serve. This way, you can have your po-boy ready to go whenever you need it.

Now that our po-boy is assembled, let's talk about the perfect accompaniment: potato chips! We're using kettle chips here, specifically the sour cream and onion flavor. There's something about the combination of the crispy potato chip and the soft, fluffy po-boy that just works. The tangy flavor of the sour cream and onion complements the richness of the cheese and meat perfectly.

get going we will show you our ingredients so we've got a couple of rolls here uh whatever we'd like something light and fluffy for this some provolone we're gonna use a few different kinds of cold cuts we've got a beautiful ham and two different kinds of salami we've got a spicy genoa and a mild beef salami we have some pimentos and we are using some mayonnaise it's again super simple this is basically just a sandwich so um it's a little less involved than our muffalettas so first thing we're going to do is take our buns and pop them in the toaster we're not going to open them first we're just going to toast the outside and get them nice and warm and we want to sort of get the insides warm and the outside crispy you can see these are nice and light very fluffy inside and uh that's perfect for this you can use a heavier bun if you like like a potato roll or something like that we prefer the much lighter kind of uh kind of roll so we're gonna smear that with uh the mayo and we're going to use some of the pimento as well so we're just going to smear that on there and make sure it's pretty evenly distributed and from there we're just going to add our toppings and you can do this in whatever order you like and you can mix this up as well like this is a very similar flavor to the kind that chef caleb would get at that restaurant and it is easy to replicate using this but you can switch this up if you want to use roast beef if you want to use some some other kind of meat there that's fine that's whatever profile flavor profile you want that's what you're going to use similarly you can switch up the cheese something mild is preferred so like a havarti a gouda something like that provolone is perfect even something like a telego which is a little bit more flavorful now we're going to alternate some of these uh these different salami so we've got the hot genoa and the mild beef salami and we're just going to alternate those back and forth gives a little bit of visual interest and again you can switch this up you can use different kinds of salami you can use other kinds of prepared meats whatever you prefer and that's it for the sandwich honestly it's really really simple we're just gonna pop that on a plate now it may look like just a sandwich but honestly it is a lot of food there's a fair amount of meat and cheese in there uh and we're gonna serve this with some potato chips because we're being bad today we're instead of making a salad we're gonna have something crispy with this because it's a really beautiful flavor combination to have that really rich quite delicious sandwich with something crispy and light really nice little potato chips there we've got kettle chips that's the uh sour cream or the green onion and yogurt chips and that's it they're really really simple quick one again this week we did we've done a couple sandwiches in the past this is probably the easiest and we're going to do another quick one next week when we do shrimp po boys so if you like this recipe please do like and subscribe and if you have any recipes you'd like to see chef caleb try on the channel please let us know in the comments below and remember
