It's February 24th, 2016, and the wait is over for Facebook lovers. The social media giant has just announced its global launch of new reactions to choose from, in the form of several new emojis. This means that users are no longer restricted to simply liking a post or page; instead, they can now express their emotions in more nuanced ways.
With this new feature, users can select from a range of emojis to convey their feelings on various posts and pages. The options include anger, sadness, love, shock, horror, and full-on passion – perfect for reacting to cat videos, food porn, or surveys that may come across one's feed. Don't worry, the old-fashioned "like" button is still available, but now users can also choose from a more varied set of emojis.
For those watching this video on Facebook right now, we encourage you to try out the new reactions by leaving an emoji reaction on the post itself. As I'm watching you right now, I'd like to suggest using the "love" or possibly the "wow" option – either one would be a great way to express your enthusiasm for this new feature. And speaking of features that are coming soon...
There's been some buzz about Siri potentially coming to Macs. According to reports from 9to5Mac and their anonymous sources, OSX X 10.12 (also known as "Fuji") is expected to sport Apple's digital voice assistant, Siri. Why not? After all, the Apple Watch has already got Siri, and the Apple TV just received her too. It seems like Microsoft is the only one who's still lagging behind with Cortana. Rumor has it that the "hey Siri" voice prompt will be supported when a Mac is plugged into a power outlet, which means that yet another device in your home will be listening to you – unless you choose to disable this feature, of course.
If Apple sticks to its usual announcement schedule, we'll find out if this rumor is legit at WWDC, which takes place in June. In the meantime, there's plenty more to look forward to in the world of tech. First up, DT has got a rundown of some killer stuff you shouldn't miss today. One highlight is a new VR-like entertainment system that makes its user look a little bit like Jordan Le Forge, complete with earmuffs – and apparently it's super fun to use for movies and games.
DT reporter Ryan Wanito spent hands-on time with this new gadget, and I'm sure they'll share some fascinating insights in the coming days. Another highlight is DT's movie Guru Rick Marshall's Oscar VF Effect series, which has just begun today. This series takes a look at all the magic behind the stunning special effects in movies like ex Machina, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, and of course, the new Star Wars. You can even take a trip down memory lane by looking back at last year's series, which covered hits like Guardians of the Galaxy and Interstellar.
As we count down to the Oscar ceremony this Sunday, DT will be doing one nominated movie per day leading up to the big event. It's going to be an exciting week, full of movies, gadgets, and all things tech-related. So don't forget to like us or shoot us a nice Facebook emoji, please – thank you for your support! And finally, subscribe to our YouTube channel, where we'll see you again right back here tomorrow.
