AUTHORS - LIANE MORIARTY

**A Review of Liane Moriarty's Books**

As I delved into Liane Moriarty's bibliography, I couldn't help but feel like I was stepping into a world that was both familiar and yet, utterly unique. Her books are known for their intricate plots, relatable characters, and the way they weave together themes of family, relationships, and identity. In this article, I'll be sharing my thoughts on her eight published novels, including which ones I enjoyed the most and why.

**Reality Factor**

As I began reading Moriarty's books, I found myself caught up in a whirlwind of emotions, twists, and turns. "9 Perfect Strangers" was one book that left me feeling bewildered, yet intrigued. It was as if I had stumbled into a world that was both familiar and strange at the same time. The fact that the story follows nine strangers who meet at an exclusive wellness resort made it feel like I was entering a parallel universe. I couldn't help but wonder how this could all be real, especially when the book's reality factor became increasingly complex.

**Book Recommendations**

One of the things I loved about reading Moriarty's books is that they're often vastly different from each other. While some may recommend "The Husband Secret" as a good introduction to her work, I found it to be a slower-paced novel that focused on the strained relationship between two main characters. On the other hand, I enjoyed "What Alice Forgot", which was my second favorite book after "Big Little Lies". This one is often recommended for fans of Moriarty's work, and for good reason – it's her funniest and lightest novel to date.

**Top Favorites**

Among Moriarty's eight novels, there are a few that stand out as absolute favorites. For me, the top two are "Big Little Lies" and "9 Perfect Strangers". Both books showcase Moriarty's unique ability to craft compelling stories with relatable characters, despite their vastly different genres and themes. In "Big Little Lies", I was captivated by the intricate web of relationships between three families, each hiding secrets that would change everything. The result is a novel that's both engaging and thought-provoking.

In contrast, "9 Perfect Strangers" is an oddball in Moriarty's bibliography – it defies genre conventions while still managing to feel eerily believable. I appreciated how the book blended elements of mystery, thriller, and drama to create something entirely new and unique. While it may not be my favorite Liane Moriarty novel (that distinction goes to "Big Little Lies"), it was certainly an enjoyable read that left me eager for more.

**Least Favorites**

Of course, no discussion of Moriarty's books would be complete without mentioning the ones that didn't quite hit the mark for me. Among her least favorites, I'd have to say that "The Three Wishes" is a strong contender. As her first book, it shows promise but lacks the polish and finesse of her later works. The writing style also felt somewhat raw and unrefined, which took some getting used to.

Another least favorite of mine is "Truly Madly Guilty". While I appreciated the premise – two main characters whose relationship is strained to say the least – I found myself struggling to connect with the characters on a deeper level. The writing style was also somewhat heavy-handed and overly dramatic, which made it hard for me to become fully invested in the story.

**Other Notable Mentions**

Finally, I have to mention "The Husband Secret", which is often cited as one of Moriarty's standout novels. While I didn't quite fall in love with this book, I did appreciate its unique premise and the way it explored themes of marriage, infidelity, and family dynamics.

Overall, Liane Moriarty's books offer a wide range of reading experiences that cater to different tastes and preferences. Whether you're looking for a thought-provoking mystery, a heartwarming romance, or simply a compelling story with complex characters, there's something on her bibliography for everyone.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone today I am here to do another author specific videos I've done a few of these videos before with authors such as Sophie Kinsella Kacey West and Fredrik Bachman so now we are adding Liane Moriarty to the list there are lots of authors I want to do these videos for but as always I have to read all the books or at least the majority of the books before I can tell you all about them so what to expect in this video basically this video is gonna be all about all of Lee and Moriarty books I'm gonna tell you about every single one of them what they are about I'm gonna tell you what years they were published starting from her first published novel to her most recent release and lastly I'm gonna tell you my favorite Liam Oreo books actually working for my lease they are working up to my favorites these videos are designed I would say it's for you to find out if you want to read this author if it's something that would be up your alley or not it's a good way to kind of figure out what an author's books are all about also if you want to start one of her books where to start which one would I recommend for you to start which ones I would recommend that you skip things like that let's talk all about Liam or any book she has written eight books I have read seven of the eight sadly I did not get around to reading one of her books I hope that is okay so I'm gonna leave that one out as far as like my least favorite working up to my favorite obviously I can't review it fairly but before I get into talking about each one of Liam or these books what would I classify her genre as I don't think one author I don't think an author has to pick one genre and go for that their entire career I think you can dabble in what other I think you can dabble in whatever John or you want but I would say the majority of Liam where these books are kind of literary fiction slash women's fiction with a touch of mystery to them kind of lighter reads that you could really read quickly and they always usually have some sort of mystery in the back burner so write usually as you begin the book there's there's been this mystery and this big crime or saying that has happened and throughout the book you're trying to uncover what it is but it's not the main plot it's kind of just lingering there in the back of your mind that something is going on there's a mystery that has to be solved but we really focus on the characters in the book and then by the end the mystery gets threaded in once again to the plot it all makes much more sense so that's what I would say the majority her books are like there are some that don't fit that category at all that they're kind of just women's fiction there's some that I think are like kind of thriller ish then there are some that would think or just kind of literary fiction so I would say the majority of her books are women's fiction literary fiction with the - of mystery in them hope that explains it to you in case you want to know what type of genre she is the first book she ever published was in 2003 and that was the book three wishes which I have read a few months ago this book reads a lot like a first book you can tell this is all about these three sisters they are triplets and they are turning 33 and it's all about their 33rd birthday and kind of their year after that of what happens they're all very very different they all they all have a lot of things going for them they have pitfalls things like that overall I didn't love this book I would say you can definitely tell it's a debut novel so if you're like really interestingly a moriarity I wouldn't recommend starting with this one I don't think it showcases her strength is writing you know because obviously as a writer you grow and you develop more and I think this one is just the start of her career so I liked it I didn't love it if you're an avid fan of Liam already and just want to read all of her books this is one that's worth reading I just kind of rated it in the middle absolute all you need to know about this book is that it's about three sisters on their birthday and they're near after their birthday turning 33 and the different lives they lead and how you know they intertwine because they are all sisters and very close stuff we have the last anniversary which came out in 2006 this is the one that I did not get around reading I started it and I only got 250 pages then and if I'm honest with you it wasn't grasping my attention which can be why I kind of put it off and I had other books like I had to read and this was kind of on the back burner this one I don't know much about it's about this woman that had a boyfriend and he was like the one that got away he's already married has except me a kid I believe and basically they kind of reunite and she starts to think did I let him go he was the one that got away and she moves like this really small island I think all of Liam already books I should say take place in Australia because she's an Australian author which i think is really awesome to read about but she moves away to this like small island like in Australia off the coast I don't sure honestly and the last anniversary does have that kind of mystery singing to it because there's this mysterious house on this island and some things happen years and years ago and I think that plays into it but overall I can't really tell you if I like this one or not because I did not finish it I've come honest with you I think I would probably felt the same way as three wishes because that's her first couple book so it's just kind of a you know beginner I guess of Lee amorites I can't really tell you if I think this one or not because I didn't finish his sadly so I hope you forgive me on that then next up we have one of my favorite Liam wordy books and that is what Alice forgot which came out in 2009 what else forgot is definitely her lightest one in my opinion I think all the other ones deal with a lot more family drama and things like that this one is a little I wouldn't say funny but it's just a lighter take on it in this book we follow Alice and Alice it's 29 she is crazy about her husband and pregnant with their first child then basically what happens is that Alice wakes up and she realizes that she is not 29 - actually 39 so she had an accident at a gym when she was 39 and she had a concussion and she now has forgotten ten years of her life so now she's 39 she and she's not happily married to Nick they're actually getting a divorce and she has three kids so she this whole book is her trying to figure out what happened in those 10 years why are her husband getting a divorce you know how I was a relationship with these kids how has she changed so drastically much in 10 years she's not the person that she thought she was at 29 so that is what this book is all about that's the whole mystery of those 10 years of what happened to Alice what made her change why her and her husband are getting divorced I really enjoyed this one I believe it is being adapted into a movie that's been told for a long time I don't know if that's accurate or not I think it could be a great movie honestly but I like it it's an overall it's very different from her other books because I would recommend it if you're starting out with Leah Moriarty and you want just something to kind of feel for her writing and things like that I think this would be a great one to start with next up we have one that I've been dreading to talk about and that is the hypnotists love story which came out in 2011 this is gonna be a great example of loving an author but not loving all of their books that is without a doubt is my least favorite Liam already book not only is it that it's one of my least favorite books that I've ever read I I don't like this book like not at all I think I gave it a 1 and a half and I don't do that lightly this is it's been a really long time and I'm not I don't like it so I don't remember a lot about it but it's about a hypnotist I forget her name and she has this beautiful like kind of cottage house she's inherited from her grandparents and she's just kind of going through life giving kind of hit mo sessions I forget exactly what she does let people come to her if they want to quit smoking some people just come to her to kind of fix her life just going on her hypnotherapy I believe and basically she meets this guy and they start a relationship and she's thinking it's going good so far she learns that his ex-girlfriend is stalking him and she thinks oh that is so interesting I'm involved with a guy that's like interesting enough to be stalked and what has that kind of like that's just gonna be really interesting and that is what the book is all about and there is no plot there's nothing that happens there's nothing that drives this book I just don't like it like I said this is a great example of still really like an author but not liking all of their books I don't like this book at all but I still love Lea Moriarty's writing and her books in general and that's okay like I don't have to like every single book a certain author writes it's okay to separate them I just didn't like it at all sadly oh sorry I don't like to slam things but I I just did not enjoy it but if you liked it that's great stuff we have another polarizing one and that is the husband's secret and this one came out in 2013 this one is a very interesting one it's one that you're either gonna really enjoy you're really not gonna like so this book is all about Cecilia and Cecilia opens up this letter from her husband and it is to be read after he dies she reads it and she discovers his deepest darkest secret and he never meant to tell her until after he died which is why she's opening only he's not dead he's very much alive and she reads it and it really changes her life and their lives and also weaves into other woman into her lives as well this book is so intriguing and the fact that when you read the synopsis like a letter that you're not supposed to open until your husband's death but you open it and then you learn this really big secret it's really intriguing for that but it is a very slow going book like the plot is very slow the characters and all the already books I think what drives the books are the characters and the character development this book is a perfect example of that another perfect example of her mystery in the backburner and you're much more focused on Cecilia and these two other woman more than kind of the mystery the mystery is always lingering in the back of your mind and sometimes it weaves itself into the plot and you're like oh yeah what the crap is going on with this mystery and in this book it's very slow they there was part of it half of it was like is this mystery ever gonna be solved or where we gonna talk about this and the last five pages just make up for it honestly with the whole book they're amazing I'm not gonna spoil anything but I enjoyed this book it wasn't my favorite Liam or new book but it was very intriguing especially with those last pages like goodness gracious it's one that I think the character development really shines and like I said either people really enjoy this book or they really don't like it I kind of really liked it but don't love it I would say we have her most popular book to date I'm sure you all heard of this book a little wise as you can clearly tell by the cover and it's been adapted to an HBO miniseries which I have watched in review if you want to see that click right here this is a very popular book people love this book it's what she's most known for understandably so I think it is her strongest book that's all about these three woman they live in Australia and each one of their kids go to the same kindergarten class and it's basically about their lives and how they are each doing with very different things and kind of a lie that happens but the beginning of this book kind of like all of her books there's this big mystery at the beginning of someone die you don't know who is done I don't know who killed him throughout this book you're figuring out slow pieces about it it's kind of weaved into like there's interviews with different parents in the school talking about the murder that has happened so you're trying to figure it all out with little tiny pieces put together and then by the end you figure it out and it's like an amazing ending as a lot of her books are this book is another great example of character development and so strongest characters to date I feel like and this also talks about so many important things talks a lot about marriage talks a lot about marital abuse it talks a lot about children and them seeing things and things like that I really enjoyed this book if you're wanting to start a flame already I would say start off with our most popular book because it's the most popular for a reason and I really liked it it's a very serious one but it's also got a lot of great humor in it with these characters and also I think the miniseries is great as well so I would recommend reading it before you're watching the miniseries but in case you've watched it and you want to read the book I think that's ok too I think they're very similar but there's a lot of differences too as well but either way this is a great book it's her most popular one understandably so we have truly madly guilty which came out in 2016 and this is one of another one of my least favorite by her Lee this book is all about this barbeque Eric I might comment on our husband Sam and her two daughters over for a barbecue and they also invite their other neighbors and basically this event has happened at this barbecue and it picks up like two months later after the event and it kind of is the aftermath of it I just I didn't love this one the character relationships were very strained like the whole relationship between Clementine and Erika the two main characters that are supposedly best friends is very odd very strained I did not really enjoy it so in case you want to start a flame already I would not recommend this book at all like I liked it it just wasn't one of her stronger ones in my opinion lastly we have her latest release which just came out this month and that is nine perfect strangers now before I even read this book the only description at Goodreads had was nine perfect strangers go to a health resort and that was it I had no idea what was gonna happen at this health resort but I can't tell you a little bit more about it because I do have the dust jacket every night that so basically it's like the title says it sees nine perfect strangers they're all going to this health resort call it Trent Trent William house I believe and they're all going there for very different things we have a main character I think is the main character this does switch a ton of POVs much more than any of her other books I've done and her name is Frances and she is a romance novelist she's kind of a failed romance novelist her latest book tit and do good and no one wants to buy her newest book she goes this house for like you know a rejuvenation kind of thing we have enough a couple that is very struggling with their marriage so they're going there for a marriage counseling another man that's just kind of at lost with his life he doesn't know what to do so he goes there we have a whole family that goes there because it's a very special anniversary and they want to spend it at this place and basically this book is all about these nine strangers meeting at this health resort and disastrous things happen this has got to be one of the wildest books I've ever read and I never thought I would say that with the Liem already book there's really no mystery involved with this one other this one is just so different from all her other books there this is a very different health resort like if you're like me when you think of health resorts you think of a lot of spas and like massages and facials in Caucasian yoga things like that this one does have all those things but it's very odd very different like one that you're gonna have to go into not knowing a time just knows that during the middle of this book you're just gonna be like is this real what is happening as far as the reality factor this is very odd it's touch with reality in my opinion like I feel like this can never happen but it was intriguing finish this book so quickly because it was just so insane like I could not believe what I was reading I was like how did this get any crazier and it dies like it's just an insane and safe book so I did actually I will have to say I did really enjoy this book I think because it was so different from her other books like there was no mystery involved it was about nine strangers now I don't love it because we had nine people that we had to get point of views from and even a couple of additional people and we didn't really get to know anybody a hundred percent I really like getting into a character and learning about them and who they are and watching their development this one we didn't get an opportunity to do that because we kept having a switch POVs after POV so we none it's very different from all other books but I enjoyed how different it was so there you have it those are all of her eight books that she is published you know what each individual one is all about now I'm going to tell you my least favorite working with - my favorite I think you can tell with how I described them and things like that's actually not applicable to this list at all it's the last anniversary because I did not read it so I can't put it in this list because it wouldn't be fair because I have not read it so just know that oh I think it's safe to say you tell my least favorite book and that is the hitches love story I don't like it I don't understand like I don't I don't want to say anything more about it I just didn't love it okay after that my least favorites probably her first book ever and that is the three wish and that is three wishes I didn't love it I could tell it was her first book because of the writing style and it's safe to say she's definitely grown so much as an author but this one I just didn't love next huffman have to say is it's truly madly guilty I just I really didn't like this book it was just so I think a good way I think the reason I didn't love it is the two main characters and how strained the relationship was usually I don't mind it this one I just I didn't love it at all really so yeah not one of my favorites next up would be the husband secret I kind of put that one in the middle like I enjoyed it but I don't love it but I would recommend reading it if you are a fan of Liam or I just know that it's a very slow going book obviously I'm gonna put her newest release 9 perfect strangers like I said repeatedly this is so different from her other books but I really enjoyed it but I don't love it because it's just so freaking odd like I liked it because it was odd but it was so odd I can't love it I don't know how to explain that but yeah this one I did enjoy and I would recommend it just know it's freaking wild that's my second two top favorite is going to be what else forgot I love this one i always recommend this one especially people that have read the morality and known her from big little lies like what other book should I read by her I always say would Alice forgot I think it's a great one it's her funniest one it's her lightest one I just adored this one a time yeah of course my favorite is big little eyes I will be like everyone else and say this is my favorite because I just really feel like it has so many amazing things that has a great mystery in the background and has three great characters that you get to know and really see and it's also a family dynamic and they're also going through so many different things I think this is a phenomenal book I would always recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting into Liam already these two right here would be the perfect example if you're interested in checking out her books and if you want to read them or not I would recommend either of these so there you have that was my video all about Liam Moriarty all about her books and things like that so I hope you enjoyed this I will continue doing on this series um as every more and more author it's a lot of authors that I want to do this video for I just need to read more of their books always the dilemma but you have read any of her books I would love to hear your feedback which one is your least fear which one is your favorite are you interested in checking out her books after this video I would love I will see you guys in my next video byehello everyone today I am here to do another author specific videos I've done a few of these videos before with authors such as Sophie Kinsella Kacey West and Fredrik Bachman so now we are adding Liane Moriarty to the list there are lots of weaves itself into the plot and you're like oh yeah what the crap is going on with this mystery and in this book it's very slow they there was part of it half of it was like is this mystery ever gonna be solved or where we gonna talk about this and the last five pages just make up for it honestly with the whole book they're amazing I'm not gonna spoil anything but I enjoyed this book it wasn't my favorite Liam or new book but it was very intriguing especially with those last pages like goodness gracious it's one that I think the character development really shines and like I said either people really enjoy this book or they really don't like it I kind of really liked it but don't love it I would say we have her most popular book to date I'm sure you all heard of this book a little wise as you can clearly tell by the cover and it's been adapted to an HBO miniseries which I have watched in review if you want to see that click right here this is a very popular book people love this book it's what she's most known for understandably so I think it is her strongest book that's all about these three woman they live in Australia and each one of their kids go to the same kindergarten class and it's basically about their lives and how they are each doing with very different things and kind of a lie that happens but the beginning of this book kind of like all of her books there's this big mystery at the beginning of someone die you don't know who is done I don't know who killed him throughout this book you're figuring out slow pieces about it it's kind of weaved into like there's interviews with different parents in the school talking about the murder that has happened so you're trying to figure it all out with little tiny pieces put together and then by the end you figure it out and it's like an amazing ending as a lot of her books are this book is another great example of character development and so strongest characters to date I feel like and this also talks about so many important things talks a lot about marriage talks a lot about marital abuse it talks a lot about children and them seeing things and things like that I really enjoyed this book if you're wanting to start a flame already I would say start off with our most popular book because it's the most popular for a reason and I really liked it it's a very serious one but it's also got a lot of great humor in it with these characters and also I think the miniseries is great as well so I would recommend reading it before you're watching the miniseries but in case you've watched it and you want to read the book I think that's ok too I think they're very similar but there's a lot of differences too as well but either way this is a great book it's her most popular one understandably so we have truly madly guilty which came out in 2016 and this is one of another one of my least favorite by her Lee this book is all about this barbeque Eric I might comment on our husband Sam and her two daughters over for a barbecue and they also invite their other neighbors and basically this event has happened at this barbecue and it picks up like two months later after the event and it kind of is the aftermath of it I just I didn't love this one the character relationships were very strained like the whole relationship between Clementine and Erika the two main characters that are supposedly best friends is very odd very strained I did not really enjoy it so in case you want to start a flame already I would not recommend this book at all like I liked it it just wasn't one of her stronger ones in my opinion lastly we have her latest release which just came out this month and that is nine perfect strangers now before I even read this book the only description at Goodreads had was nine perfect strangers go to a health resort and that was it I had no idea what was gonna happen at this health resort but I can't tell you a little bit more about it because I do have the dust jacket every night that so basically it's like the title says it sees nine perfect strangers they're all going to this health resort call it Trent Trent William house I believe and they're all going there for very different things we have a main character I think is the main character this does switch a ton of POVs much more than any of her other books I've done and her name is Frances and she is a romance novelist she's kind of a failed romance novelist her latest book tit and do good and no one wants to buy her newest book she goes this house for like you know a rejuvenation kind of thing we have enough a couple that is very struggling with their marriage so they're going there for a marriage counseling another man that's just kind of at lost with his life he doesn't know what to do so he goes there we have a whole family that goes there because it's a very special anniversary and they want to spend it at this place and basically this book is all about these nine strangers meeting at this health resort and disastrous things happen this has got to be one of the wildest books I've ever read and I never thought I would say that with the Liem already book there's really no mystery involved with this one other this one is just so different from all her other books there this is a very different health resort like if you're like me when you think of health resorts you think of a lot of spas and like massages and facials in Caucasian yoga things like that this one does have all those things but it's very odd very different like one that you're gonna have to go into not knowing a time just knows that during the middle of this book you're just gonna be like is this real what is happening as far as the reality factor this is very odd it's touch with reality in my opinion like I feel like this can never happen but it was intriguing finish this book so quickly because it was just so insane like I could not believe what I was reading I was like how did this get any crazier and it dies like it's just an insane and safe book so I did actually I will have to say I did really enjoy this book I think because it was so different from her other books like there was no mystery involved it was about nine strangers now I don't love it because we had nine people that we had to get point of views from and even a couple of additional people and we didn't really get to know anybody a hundred percent I really like getting into a character and learning about them and who they are and watching their development this one we didn't get an opportunity to do that because we kept having a switch POVs after POV so we none it's very different from all other books but I enjoyed how different it was so there you have it those are all of her eight books that she is published you know what each individual one is all about now I'm going to tell you my least favorite working with - my favorite I think you can tell with how I described them and things like that's actually not applicable to this list at all it's the last anniversary because I did not read it so I can't put it in this list because it wouldn't be fair because I have not read it so just know that oh I think it's safe to say you tell my least favorite book and that is the hitches love story I don't like it I don't understand like I don't I don't want to say anything more about it I just didn't love it okay after that my least favorites probably her first book ever and that is the three wish and that is three wishes I didn't love it I could tell it was her first book because of the writing style and it's safe to say she's definitely grown so much as an author but this one I just didn't love next huffman have to say is it's truly madly guilty I just I really didn't like this book it was just so I think a good way I think the reason I didn't love it is the two main characters and how strained the relationship was usually I don't mind it this one I just I didn't love it at all really so yeah not one of my favorites next up would be the husband secret I kind of put that one in the middle like I enjoyed it but I don't love it but I would recommend reading it if you are a fan of Liam or I just know that it's a very slow going book obviously I'm gonna put her newest release 9 perfect strangers like I said repeatedly this is so different from her other books but I really enjoyed it but I don't love it because it's just so freaking odd like I liked it because it was odd but it was so odd I can't love it I don't know how to explain that but yeah this one I did enjoy and I would recommend it just know it's freaking wild that's my second two top favorite is going to be what else forgot I love this one i always recommend this one especially people that have read the morality and known her from big little lies like what other book should I read by her I always say would Alice forgot I think it's a great one it's her funniest one it's her lightest one I just adored this one a time yeah of course my favorite is big little eyes I will be like everyone else and say this is my favorite because I just really feel like it has so many amazing things that has a great mystery in the background and has three great characters that you get to know and really see and it's also a family dynamic and they're also going through so many different things I think this is a phenomenal book I would always recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting into Liam already these two right here would be the perfect example if you're interested in checking out her books and if you want to read them or not I would recommend either of these so there you have that was my video all about Liam Moriarty all about her books and things like that so I hope you enjoyed this I will continue doing on this series um as every more and more author it's a lot of authors that I want to do this video for I just need to read more of their books always the dilemma but you have read any of her books I would love to hear your feedback which one is your least fear which one is your favorite are you interested in checking out her books after this video I would love I will see you guys in my next video bye\n"
