Setting Up Your Gear VR

To start using your new Gear VR, you need to go through the menu and then click on the "More" option at the bottom right corner of the screen. This will allow you to enter your redemption code, which comes with a $50 credit depending on the code you have. You can use this credit to download various applications and content.

One of the first things you'll notice is that you can browse through different applications and movies without having to put on the VR headset. This includes holiday-themed apps and other entertainment options. If you want to open a specific application, such as Netflix, you can click on it and hit "Start" before putting on the device.

Before you start using your Gear VR, you'll need to adjust to change the focus, as there are proximity sensors that detect when you take off or put on the headset. When you remove the headset, the screen will lock until you put it back on. There's also a setup process that guides you through practicing basic actions like looking around and tapping the screen.

During this setup process, you'll be asked to swipe forward, backward, and down to navigate the menu. This is similar to navigating a virtual environment in your Gear VR headset. For example, when it says "Look at the dot and tap the touchpad," you'll need to locate the dot on the screen and tap it using the touchpad.

As you progress through the setup process, you'll get to practice different skills like looking around and scrolling. Once you've completed these exercises, you'll be taken to the main Oculus screen, which displays all your installed applications. You can also see friends who are currently online and access the library of content available in your Gear VR.

Your Gear VR comes with a virtual home that changes depending on your interests and preferences. In this example, it's been transformed into a Christmas-themed environment complete with gingerbread men and candy canes. If you want to download new apps or check out existing ones, you can access the store from the main menu.

One of the many applications available for Gear VR is Netflix. You can browse through the content options and select the movies or shows that interest you. In this example, it's been pre-installed on the device, and you can start watching by hitting "Play."

Edge Plus S7 S7 Edge or Note 5 if you have a version like this that is white those are the only supported phones if you just recently received a new gear VR it is a dark blue version and it will support upcoming devices that have what's called USBC in the charging port the first thing that you need to know is when you pull this out of the box you'll first have to set up the streps on the outside here this has a cover that you can just pop on and off easily to navigate the device here at the top you have a adjustment wheel that if for some reason it is out of focus you can use that to adjust and put it in focus and that moves your phone when it's in the device over here on the side you have a touch panel so is how you interact with this just like when you touch your screen all you have to do is touch it and that would be a tap if you want to scroll forward or back or left and right you just swipe forward or back and up and down here this is a back button that allows you to go back one screen and if you have the new dark blue device you will also have a home button the gear VR also has a charging port on the bottom so while you are using the device you can actually plug in a power cable to charge your phone over here on the side you also have a volume up and down controls while this is being used you can also plug in a headset or use a Bluetooth headset for a more full experience right here you also have a a and a b slot and you need to adjust that depending on which device you have if you have a normal Galaxy S6 or S7 you you need to make sure that it is in the B slot but if you have a bigger phone like the S7 Edge or the Note 5 you need to push that in and slide it over to go to the a slot so that it is adjusted and will fit your phone so here we have a S6 that we're using today so we're going to move this over to the B Spot and then over here on the side before I plug in my phone I want to make sure that it is in the upright position so now I take my phone and I place the screen towards the device and I push this into the USB port and it sits in like that and then I press it down and snap it in you will hear a sound once it has been connected and if it's the first time when you put it on welcome to your Samsung Gear VR to start the setup process remove your mobile device and install the required applications on it you're going to hear that notification so you just need to take the device back off and pull out your phone to finish the setup okay so here is the main screen of the gear VR setup process so here we just want to hit next and then is what it's going to do is it's going to download more software that your device needs to be able to use the gear VR here we want to agree to the terms I will note that for health and safety it is best to be sitting down as well as not in use for those under 13 years of age so here are all the different applications that need to be installed and we're going to hit install and give that time to finish okay now it has installed all those apps so is what we need to do is set up a Oculus account okay now that I have verified my email address I need to add or I can choose to skip a payment option in case I want to buy games I can do that so you can browse through the Oculus store on the gear VR menu or you can just load up the Oculus app so the Oculus store will also allow you to go and download new applications if you got a gift card that came in the box with your new gear VR you want to go through this menu and then you click on the more down here in the bottom right corner and then you can enter your code right here under redeem code so I would select that and then you get $50 of Christ credit depending on which code you have so here I can also download Netflix I can browse through right now there are some holiday CES as well as see other applications and movies that I can buy uh right from the screen without having to actually use the VR and then if I want to open a certain application say I want to open Netflix I can click right on it hit start and then place the device in the gear VR before I put this on is how it knows that I put on the VR is right here at the top it has a proximity sensor so when you take it off it'll actually lock the screen until you put the device back on and when the words pop up you want to make sure that you adjust to change the focus and here it's going to run you through a setup process that you're going to practice on looking around to navigate and tapping the screen and using the touchpad to scroll so here it says look at the dut and tap the touchpad donuts and here I find another dut one more dut all right I am all set so I'm going to click continue now it wants me to swipe forward so I'm going to swipe to find the cactus so if I swipe forward it's going to go to the right there's the cactus and if I swipe backward it's going to go to Left to find the mountain and now the last it's going to swipe down on the touchpad so we swipe down to change from night to day and then here we're going to press the back button and then press and hold the back button to get to the universal menu okay so now I am at the main Oculus screen so if I look around around here I have the applications on the front that are already installed over here I have the store uh some Samsung piics that I can use if I go over to this side I have library and then I can also see if I have any friends that are currently online uh right now the room has changed to be a Christmas theme so this is your Oculus home so when you buy this you actually buy a home which is pretty amazing so there's some gingerbread if I look around to the back here uh we see some presents gingerbread man back there and then over here we have some giant candy canes if I want to I can go in and download an app so I'm going to go here to the bottom and click on the store and then let's download Netflix so I'm just going to press to select and then I'm going to click over here and click free to start the install if I want to go back to my library and check out some other apps here it shows all the applications that I have if I go to the Samsung gallery there are already pictures that I can look at in here uh video player allows me to watch videos that I recorded on my phone or ones that I can download and 360 photos I can see photos that were taken in 360° the gear VR can do lots of different things you can download movies play video games and watch your own content for a quick demo I'm going to go in Jurassic world this is a really awesome preview of what the gear VR can do once you load this up you will see a start screen and it will take a little while to download so you can take the VR off and it will continue to download and put it back on to play so here I'm going to select tap to play and that will start the video so this little apatosaur is laying down if I look to my right I can see I got a flashlight over here and I have a walkie-talkie if I look over to the left I have a little Cante there's the Jurassic Park Jeep over there looks like our little guy's wak up over here what's up man oh he sees me uhoh um he's
