**Transferring Data from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy S8 with Smart Switch**

In this article, we will explore the process of transferring data from an iPhone to a new Samsung Galaxy S8 device using the Smart Switch app.

Using the Photos App on Samsung Galaxy S8

------------------------------------------

The first step in transferring data is to set up your new Samsung phone. The photos app is where you can view all your transferred media, including pictures and videos. Once you start the app, it will scan through those files quickly and display them on the screen.

To make sure that the files are displayed properly, pinch the screen to zoom in or out. Additionally, to change the sorting method, go into the three-dot menu at the top of the page and select "Sort by". This allows you to sort the media in ascending or descending order based on the name of the file.

Using VLC Player for Video Files

-------------------------------

On your new Samsung phone, a new application called VLC player is pre-installed. To access it, go into the photos app, select video, and then click on the VLC icon. The VLC player will allow you to view all the different video files that were transferred from your iPhone.

When you open the video, you can see that it's playing just fine. This means that the data has been successfully transferred, and you're ready to enjoy your media content on your new Samsung device.

Using Notes App

----------------

The notes app is another feature that was transferred from the iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S8. When you open the notes app on your Samsung phone, it will import all the data that you had in the S note application.

To get started with using the notes app, click "Allow" when prompted to give the app access to your data. Once allowed, the app will start importing all the details that you need. This includes all the text, images, and other media content that was stored in the S note app.

Using Messages App

-----------------

The messages app is another feature that was transferred from the iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S8. When you open the messages app on your Samsung phone, it will show you the most recent message that was sent or received on both devices.

To get started with using the messages app, click on the most recent message at the top of the page. This will take you back to the previous conversation and allow you to see all the details that were stored in the messages app.

Using Clock App

----------------

The clock app is where you can view your alarms and schedule events on your Samsung Galaxy S8. When you open the clock app, you'll see a list of all the alarms that were transferred from your iPhone.

If you want to quickly get to the camera, simply double press the power button, and it will jump right into the camera mode. Additionally, if you press hard on the power button, it's like a force touch button, where it will still go back home.

Other Features of Samsung Galaxy S8

--------------------------------------

In addition to the features mentioned above, there are several other cool tricks that can be used on the Samsung Galaxy S8. One example is double-tapping the screen to quickly get to the camera app.

Another feature is the recent apps button, which is located on the left side of the phone. This allows you to easily view and close all your recently opened apps by double-clicking on the button.

To access Siri and switch to Google assistant, simply hold down on the home button until the Google assistant logo appears on the screen.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en(upbeat music)- Hey everybody, welcometo Tech with Brett, where I help tech work for you.And in today's tutorial,I'm gonna show you howto transfer everythingfrom your iPhone to yournew Samsung Galaxy S8,or Galaxy S device. All you need is a lightning cableand the USB connectorthat comes in the boxof your new Galaxy phone.Let's get started. We're transferring from iOS to Samsung, you need to make sure that you haveiOS 5.0 or above, if youdon't it will not work. The second thing is youneed to make sure that youdo a few things on your iPhoneso that the Samsung phone can read itand transfer that data.So to start off we'regonna go into settings, and then we need to go intoour iCloud information. So right here, I'm gonna click iCloud, and here we can see whatis backed up to iCloud. So if you currently haveyour contacts on iCloud,it will not transfer that informationover to the Samsung phone. So, if you want it to transfer iCloudyou need to turn offthe contacts on iCloud, and just say keep thosecontacts on my phone. There's one more thing I suggest you dobefore you begin the transfer.Over here on the new Samsung phonewhen you first set itup is should prompt youto transfer content via smartswitch in the notifications. If it does not have that,go into the settings of the phone, and then go to clouds and accounts, and here you will see smart switch.Open up smart switch, and then you wanna clickthe settings right here, click settings again and check about, and then you wanna update smart switchso that it is on the latest version,in case there is anyupdates that will helpthis transfer work better.Once that is done you cannow plug your device in.Plug the lightning cable into the iPhone, and then plug the USBinto the USB connector. This is the USBC that comes with the S8,and with the S7 you have the micro USB.Plug that in, and thenplug that into the phone. This will then promptyou to open smart switchif you're not already in there. Then on the iPhone youneed to unlock your device, and it will give you this prompt that saysdo you trust this computer. And this is so that itcan read your iPhoneand transfer the data.So I hit trust, and thenover here I click next. And this will beginscanning through everythingon your iPhone to seewhat it can transfer. This could take up to 15 minutes,so be patient as it goesthrough and searchesthrough your entire phone.Alright, that took about nine minutesto search through the iPhone. So that will depend onhow much informationyou actually have on your iPhone. So now it is giving me allthis different information. So here it says my transferwill take about 22 minutes. And it is going totransfer 5.27 gig of data. The available space that Ihave on this phone is 103 gig.But that's 51 gig from the phone, and 51 gig from my SD card.So here it has 1400 contacts,it has messages so it wouldtransfer the last 30 days, and I can click the settings right here, and it should give me a few more options. So I could say all text messages, last 2 years, last 12 months, six months,as well as just the last 30 days. Here it says 15 calendarevents, 132 notes, the app list.So this won't transfer any applications,it will just transfer the listof what you have installed on your iPhone. That's because the iPhoneapps and the android appsare different file types sothey don't transfer over. Here you have your calllog, and blocked list. You clock so that would be your alarms.Your wifi settings that you have,as well as the wallpaper that you havestored on your iPhone. If you have music downloaded from iCloud,it will actually transferthat information over as well. But, I don't have any on this iPhone here. Here it's gonna transfer photos. So 1.6 gig, 1.36 gig of photos, and then 403 video items,as well as 21 notes and 12 document items. So that's all that will transfer, and if you don't wantto transfer everything, you can just come uphere and deselect all.And then it unchecks everything, and you can just say I want my contacts, and my messages and transfer over. And this only copies theinformation over from the iPhone. So if you were to keep your iPhoneyou could go back at anytime and redo the transfer. But let's just see whatit takes to transfer. Here it says it's gonnatake about 22 minutes, and I am gonna transfer everything overthat it has available. So, here we go.OK, at this point of the transferwe are at one minute and 40 seconds. And now it is actuallysaving the informationin the correct space. So this will take a little bit more time. And while this is plugged in,the iPhone is being charged. So make sure that both of your devicesare charged up before you do this. There are 13 different categoriesthat it needs to go throughto save all of that information into. But then here at the bottom,it says you can nodisconnect the USB cable.Since it has transferredeverything over to the phonewe are now free to disconnectso that it is not usingany more of the batteryfrom your new Samsung phone.OK, the total time for that transfer wasthree minutes and 40 seconds. And now here it is saying ittransferred 5.26 gig of data. And while it was scanningthe phone originallyI believe it temporarilytransferred some of that info,so that's why it took solittle amount of time.So when you are donetransferring everything, here it gives you a few options. So download and install apps.So if I wanna see which applications I haddownloaded on the iPhone,I can click right hereand I can click download. So here it has matched upall the iPhone applicationsthat you had and paired themwith google applications. So if I wanna download one of these apps, let's say I wannadownload this Amex mobile,I can click install, and once I have a gmail account,it will take me right to theapplication to install that.Cause it has verified that that appis also on the google play store, where you're gonnadownload your applications. So here under the,and you can see that it pulled overlots and lots of applications,So over here on the recommended tab, this will show applications that are notcurrently available on the play store, and give you a recommendation. So say here this Apple TV remote,I click on there and there areother android apps thatyou can actually downloadthat are very similar. Here it couldn't transferthe exact calculator app,so it's going to giveyou some recommendations. With all of these there arevery similar applicationsare available on the playstore that you can use.For example if you want tocontinue to use FaceTime, that is not available on android, but there is an app called Google Duo.And that is actually alreadypre-installed on your device, you just verify your phone number, have the person that youwant to call download iton their either iPhoneor Samsung android phoneand you can begin tovideo chat then as well.So let's say I want totransfer my Apple music overto the new galaxy device. So I click install, and then it's going to haveme sign in to a gmail account.Once you're signed in to the account,it's then going to askif you wanna back upinformation to your google account, like your wifi pass words, callhistory, google drive, etc. Then, it will pull right upinto the google play store, where you can download your applications. So here, Apple music is availablein the google play store.I click install,it will download, then I just need to signin to my apple accountto access my music. If we go back down here,we have the back arrow, and that will take us right backto the list of applications. So we're gonna go back here, that's how you install the applications. So the next option isdownload an MOV player. So the videos that yourecorded on your iPhoneare MOV files, and those arenot supported on android. But, if you download anapplication that supports MOV,you can continue to view your video files. So I'm gonna click download, and it will take me to the play storethat shows me some differentapplications I can use.The VLC for android is thefirst one that pops up.You can also use MX playerbut I'm just gonna clickthe VLC for android to install that. While that's going let'sgo back and check outthe rest of these. So here download a notes app.So all the notes thatyou have in your iPhone,we wanna click download. And this will download your, and this will download anapp called Samsung notesthat is able to view all of the notesthat you had on your iPhone. So that's downloadingagain in the background. The next option is to disable iMessage. You'll wanna do that beforeyou wipe your iPhone,or turn off the network. So it registers that your phone numberis no longer connected with iMessage,so there's no disruption ingetting your text messages. You can also go to the websitethere, and turn it off.Down here it's showingthe rest of the contentthat was transferred. Here we have contacts, messages, calendar, notes, apps. All the info, and then that is it.Down here at the bottom of the listwe have the option toselect more features. If you click that it's going to tell youabout Samsung cloud, which is very similar to iCloud, where you can back-upall of your informationto your Samsung account,up to 15 gig free right on your device. So you can click thereand learn more about it.But now we are done with the transfer,so I'm going to click close app.So let's check to see what transferredover from the iPhone, and how it looks onyour new Samsung device.First let's go into the phone application. So here you can see on the recent,it transferred all the recent calls. If we go over to contacts tab, here we can see it transferredover contact information. So if I select on AAA here, and I want to click details,we can see that it eventransferred over contact, all of the phone numbers as well asdifferent notes that I hadstored on that contact.Next, let's into the gallery. If you have the Galaxy S7you'll see an apps button down here, but on the S8 to go into the appsyou swipe up, and hereyou can see gallery. So now we can see that theimages are right there. They have all transferred over.On the iPhone you havethese different albums, but with the new Samsung phoneit put the all in one album. If you would like to see a different view, you can just pinch the phone, and it will zoom out more,or you can pinch in to zoom in further. You can also changethe way that this sortsby going into the threedot menu a the top hereand going into sort by,and you can change if it's ascending, the name of the file.Whatever, you can all have those options, right in the gallery application.Next, let's go and check out the movies. So there in the photos app, there were movies that I can see here. But now on the new Samsung phone,we downloaded this VLC player. So I'm gonna open VLC.And you'll see this notification a loton your new android phone,it's saying do you allow thisapp to look at your media. And of course we wanna say allow,so it can access that media. So now I click video and here we haveall the different video files, and it's scanningthrough those real quick. And now you'll see thatthose videos are popping up.So I'm gonna click on right here, and I'm gonna go to this video, and you can see that itis playing just fine.Check out those juggling skills.Next, let's go into the notes app.So if I go to notes on the iPhone, and over here I go to the Samsung notes, and then you'll get some prompts abouthow to use different applicationsthe first time you go in there, here I'm going to click allowso it has access to that information. And now it is importing all the datathat you had on your S note application. You'll see that it has all the detailsthat you need right there in S note.Next let's go into themessages application. So here we can see at the top,it has transferred themost recent message. If I open that up,we can see,we can see our previous conversation.Let's see if we go backwe'll even see that ittransferred over picturesthat you had in that conversation.OK, and last, let's check the clock. So I'm gonna go on toclock there, clock here. Here we can see that allthe alarms that I haveon this phone have transferredover, and even more. That is all the information that transferswith the smart switchand USB cable connectorfrom the iPhone.A few other cool tricks foryour new Samsung device,if you have the new Galaxy S8and you want to quickly get to the camera, all you have to do is doublepress the power button, and that will jump right into the camera. Here, you no longer have a home button, but similar to the iPhone 7 here,if you press hard it,if you press firm,it's like a force touch button, where it will still go back home. And that's even if the phone is locked. All you have to do is press, and it will unlock the screen, and then I swipe to unlock the device.Right here on the left side, you have a recent apps button. And that's like doubletapping your iPhone. If you click that it will show allthe recent apps that you were using. And you can just go through and select. If you want to get rid ofone, you swipe it away. And if you want to close them all,you can just click the closeall button at the bottom.Of course you have the home button, and then here you have the back button, which you didn't have on the iPhone. If you use Siri, and you wantto talk to Google assistant, all you have to do is holddown on the home button, and that will open up Google assistant, and you wanna select yes I'min to begin voice activation. To see the list of all the applicationsyou had installed on your iPhone, you just need to goback into the settings, and go into clouds and accounts, and go into smart switch. When you are in smart switchif you click the threedot menu in the top right, here it will say apps from old device. It will then pull up thatlist of matching applicationsas well as the other recommendedapplications that you have.Thank you so much for
