The Performance of the New M3 MacBook Pro: A Nuanced Conversation
At the office, I think that's pretty cool now actually talking about the performance of this new M3 MacBook Pro it's a bit of a nuanced conversation especially now that we have a lower cost spec entering The Fray leave it to Apple to make their product lineup even more complicated than it already was sitting below the M3 Pro and M3 Max our $1600 MacBook Pro features a base M3 so with an 8 core CPU and 10 core GPU generally speaking it actually performs quite well low-powered tasks like navigating the interface feels noticeably quicker than on my daily driver it's as if there's an extra layer of butter added on top butter and interestingly enough synthetic benchmarks actually support this observation the M3 generation of chips has clearly made notable improvements in single-threaded CPU performance over two generations it's also worth noting that multicore CPU scores are not far off from what I was getting with my M1 Max which is really nice to see however when you start throwing more demanding tasks at it the compromises Apple made to meet the $1600 price point start to show firstly the base M3s GPU simply can't match the raw core count found on my M1 Max 24 is certainly bigger than 10 who would have thought of course it's an apple to oranges comparison since the M3 wasn't designed to go toe-to-toe with the M1 Max but for the sake of consistency I think it's important to mention the second and perhaps most significant tradeoff is that this $1600 laptop comes with just 8 gigs of RAM standard look in my opinion Apple actually optimizes Mac OS very well and they've done a decent job making 8 gigs of RAM work especially on their $1000 machines however considerations between a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro are very different for example when editing a YouTube video you're not just using Final Cut Pro you're pulling assets from the internet rendering effects in Cap Cut or After Effects and creating PNGs in Photoshop sometimes all simultaneously for such tasks 8 GB simply doesn't cut it upgrading to 16 gigs of RAM on Apple's website will set you back $200 bucks but in my opinion this isn't the route anyone should be taking the total cost after that upgrade comes dangerously close to the mid-spec 14-in M3 Pro MacBook Pro that specific model costs $2000 and with that includes 18 gigs of RAM and also boasts significantly more CPU and GPU cores over the base M3 you'll certainly appreciate the extra performance headroom especially in the name of future proofing and those higher-end specs also have the space black colorway it looks really sharp in person and if I'm going to be upgrading that's the one I want so here is the big question who is this base model M3 MacBook Pro really for as someone who's been dabbling a bit more in short form content I believe this laptop would be a great fit for a budding content creator looking to elevate their TikToks Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts compared to a MacBook Air that costs between $1000 to $1500 bucks you're likely to appreciate the superior screen additional ports an SD card slot which is a godsend if you're want to use a camera and the noticeable performance boost when jumping from a passively cooled M2 to an actively cooled M3 also I might be biased here but it might be worth considering MacBook Pros with an M1 Max in the used market while scouring the internet I was able to find several similar in price to this base model M3 although availability and condition will certainly vary as someone who owns one and has put it through its paces including a few accidental drops and hours and hours and hours draining the battery I can assure you that these machines are built like tanks and designed to last and finally it's worth remembering that the world doesn't always revolve around MSRP pricing especially during the holidays like we are in now if you manage to find an M3 Pro MacBook Pro on sale for under $2000 I believe that that would be an excellent investment if you're looking for a serious content creation machine I'd love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below and otherwise thanks for watching this video on Dany Channel
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI've been spending the past few weeks testing this the brand new bass 14in M3 MacBook Pro and it's quite an interesting laptop in the US the 14-in MacBook used to start at a rather Hefty $2,000 however if you're on a budget you can actually now get your hands on a base model for as low as 1,600 let's be real with a price tag like that there are bound to be some compromises after all this is an entry-level product from Apple so they've had to cut some Corners here and there to get to that price point I however despite this I found the laptop to be far better than most people seem to give it credit for but is it actually worth it let's find out before we get to the meat and potatoes of this video I want to talk about today's sponsor Squarespace Squarespace off your first purchase of a website or domain thank you to Squarespace for sponsoring this video and now back to the show the 14-in MacBook Pro is familiar territory for me since I daily drive one for work and it's probably the best laptop I've ever owned granted mine's pretty high spec with an M1 Max 32 gig gigs of RAM and cost almost $4,000 when it was new back in October of 2021 however despite the apples to oranges comparison this new $1600 base model MacBook Pro keeps up with my daily in more ways than I expected there are numerous similarities between the two one of them being the size the 14-in form factor in my opinion is the perfect size for a work laptop it maintains a delicate balance bance between functionality and Aesthetics offering sufficient space for cooling batteries and especially ports while maintaining the Sleek compact feel that Macs are known for its convenient size makes it comfortable to carry around which is a big plus if you travel frequently like I do another area where the 14-in MacBook doesn't compromise is with the screen it boasts the same pixel dense liquid Retina xdr Display with exceptional color production and contrast ratios the 120 HZ promotion adds a silky smooth feel while scrolling and navigating through Mac OS as well honestly I didn't think we'd see this kind of display on a MacBook that's priced under $22,000 so kudos to Apple for even adding this into their base model something else that this 14-in MacBook shares with its bigger Brothers is the battery life and this one specifically is an endurance champ to give you some context for what my 10hour workday could look like it involves a mix of heavy web browsing editing short and long form videos for YouTube in Final Cut Pro and also creating thumbnails in Photoshop what is heavy web browsing lot of chrome tabs my friend despite the heavy workload I never managed to drain the battery in a single day now I've come very close on more demanding editing sessions but the battery life is truly impressive I'll more into performance in just a little bit but I think if there's one compelling reason to opt for this base model M3 MacBook over a spec with M3 Pro or M3 Max it's the power efficiency of the chip power efficiency is this 1920 again we're talking about a 20% difference on a single charge which translates roughly to an extra 3 to 4 hours of web browsing and video playback this is more than enough to binge watch some Netflix or YouTube after a long day at the office I think that's pretty cool now actually talking about the performance of this set you back back an additional 200 bucks but in my opinion this isn't the route anyone should be taking the total cost after that upgrade comes dangerously close to the mid-spec 14-in M3 Pro MacBook Pro that specific model costs $2,000 and with that includes 18 gigs of RAM and also boasts significantly more CPU and GPU cores over the base M3 you'll certainly appreciate the extra performance Headroom especially in the name of future proofing and those higher-end specs also have the space black colorway it looks really sharp in person and if I'm going to be upgrading that's the one I want so here is the big question who is this base model M3 MacBook Pro really for as someone who's been dabbling a bit more in short form content I believe this laptop would be a great fit for a budding content creator looking to elevate their Tik toks Instagram reels or YouTube shorts compared to a MacBook Air that costs between 1,000 to 1,500 bucks you're likely to appreciate the superior screen additional ports an SD card slot which is a godsend if you're want to use a camera and the noticeable performance boost When jumping from a passively cooled M2 to an actively cooled M3 also I might be biased here but it might be worth considering MacBook Pros with an M1 Max in the use Market while scouring the internet I was able to find several similar in price to this base model M3 although availability and condition will certainly vary as someone who owns one and has put it through its Paces including a few accidental drops and hours and hours and hours draining the battery I can assure you that these machines are built like tanks and designed to last and finally it's worth remembering that the world doesn't always revolve around MSRP pricing especially during the holidays like we
