The ONE BIGGEST HOLIDAY DECOR MISTAKE to AVOID

**Switching Up Your Coffee Table for the Holidays**

For me, decorating my coffee table is an art installation that allows me to express my creativity and have fun with it. It's a way for me to get out of my comfort zone and try new things, just like setting the table in the dining room. I love switching up my decor seasonally, and when it comes to the holidays, I go all out. My coffee table is the center of the space, and I want it to feel festive and inviting.

I've found that changing up my coffee table can completely transform the way a room feels. It's not just about adding some holiday decorations; it's about creating a new look and atmosphere that reflects the season. I like to think outside the box and come up with unique ideas for my decor, whether it's using natural elements like pinecones or branches, or getting creative with color and texture. The possibilities are endless, and I love experimenting with different looks.

One idea I've had is to switch out my coffee table itself. Now, I know what you're thinking - why would I want to change a great piece of furniture? But sometimes it's those little changes that can make the biggest impact. Plus, there are plenty of affordable options available online, like Amazon or West Elm. If you do decide to swap out your coffee table, consider investing in one that's sturdy and will hold all of your holiday decorations.

Of course, not every change needs to be drastic. Sometimes it's just about adding a few new elements to an existing look. I've found that swapping out the placemats or adding some holiday greens can make a big difference without breaking the bank. The key is to find what works for you and your space, and have fun with it.

For me, one of the biggest challenges of decorating my coffee table is staying inspired. That's why I love browsing Pinterest and getting ideas from other people who share my passion for holiday decor. It's a great way to get in the mood and focus on what I want to achieve with my own decor. Plus, it keeps me from feeling overwhelmed or stuck.

I've been fortunate enough to have a steady stream of holiday decorations over the years, thanks to garage sales and thrift stores. My parents even gifted me with a small tree when we first moved back to the US after living overseas. It's been a process building out my decor year by year, but I love the way it feels to create something new and special.

As I look at my room now, I can see that there are some changes I want to make before I start decorating for the holidays. The first thing I noticed was the need for a fresh coat of paint or perhaps a new rug. These little tweaks will help set the stage for the rest of my decor and make it feel more cohesive.

In the end, it's all about enjoying the process and not getting too caught up in trying to create the perfect space. The holidays are a time for joy and celebration, and it's easy to get lost in the details. My advice is to take a step back, breathe, and have fun with it. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new things - that's where the magic happens.

**Creating a New Look**

One of my favorite ideas for creating a new look on your coffee table is to switch up the entire setup. This can include changing out the tabletop itself, as well as the decorative elements that sit atop it. The possibilities are endless, and you can find inspiration online or in magazines to help guide you.

If you're looking for affordable options, consider checking out Amazon or West Elm. These websites offer a wide range of coffee tables at different price points, from budget-friendly to luxury. When choosing a new coffee table, think about the style and materials that fit with your existing decor. You want it to feel cohesive and complement the space.

In addition to changing up the tabletop itself, you can also add some holiday greens or decorations to give your coffee table a fresh look. This is a great way to mix things up without breaking the bank. Consider adding some pinecones, branches, or other natural elements to create a unique centerpiece.

**Making it Personal**

For me, decorating my coffee table is not just about aesthetics - it's also about personal expression and creativity. I love experimenting with different colors, textures, and shapes to find what works best for me. This year, I'm thinking of adding some new pieces that reflect my personality and style. Whether it's a vintage vase or a handmade ornament, the key is to make it personal and meaningful.

I've found that getting inspiration from Pinterest and other sources can be a great way to stay motivated and focused. It's easy to get caught up in trying to create the perfect space, but sometimes the simplest ideas are the most beautiful. Take a step back, breathe, and trust your instincts - that's where the magic happens.

**Seasonal Refresh**

One of my favorite things about decorating for the holidays is the opportunity to refresh and recharge my decor. It's a time to let go of old pieces and make way for new ones, and to experiment with different styles and ideas. This year, I'm thinking of adding some seasonal elements like candles, holly, or mistletoe to create a cozy atmosphere.

I've also been enjoying the process of creating a new look in my room this season. It's amazing how a fresh coat of paint or a new rug can transform the space and make it feel more inviting. This year, I'm thinking of painting one wall in a bold color or adding some patterned rugs to create visual interest.

**Taking It All Together**

At the end of the day, decorating my coffee table is all about having fun and expressing myself. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, the most important thing is to enjoy the process and not get too caught up in trying to create the perfect space. Remember, it's okay to make mistakes and try new things - that's where the magic happens.

As I look back on my decorating journey so far, I'm reminded of the importance of staying inspired and having fun with the process. Whether you're browsing Pinterest or scouring thrift stores for unique pieces, the key is to find what works for you and make it your own. Happy decorating!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enevery year we find ourselves pulling out our holiday Decor we know we've only got about six maybe eight weeks if we really want to push it to see our decor and we're very excited and we start putting it all up and we're in auto mode okay we're in auto mode we put it up just the same exact way every year and every year the pictures look pretty much the same maybe we're wearing different pajamas but there's not really anything that just makes it stand out so I think that getting into a rut when it comes to your holiday decor is the biggest mistake that you can make does that mean you need to run out and buy all new stuff no of course not who would even think about doing that okay maybe there's some people who do but most of us even if we did have the money there's a joy in bringing things back out so for those of us who love to build a Timeless uh classic elegant home we're probably going to want to bring out a lot of the same things every single year so today I'm going to load you up on tips and tricks that will help you utilize a lot of what you already have in new ways you're going to I well I hope I hope you'll feel super inspired and pumped to just simply try something a little bit different something new this season so what is that first thing that I think is the number one thing that can really just derail you I think putting the tree in the exact same place can be a little bit monotonous I'm not 100% opposed to this idea because I do think Traditions at the holidays are a really good thing and you can let me know in the comments how you feel about this one but I do feel like yeah sometimes putting it in the exact same spot might just be a little bit too monotonous so you might want to think about changing locations of the tree I have two locations in my living room that work really nicely for my tree and I have moved mine back and forth tried it in lots of different places um you might also think about maybe a different room or adding a tree I know I'm not suggesting that you have to but each year we've added on to our Decor by adding a new tree to a new room and that adds just a different layer of excitement into our spaces so I do think that thinking about your tree its location and potentially adding another one could be a really fun way of just getting new energy into your holiday decor and get you super pumped to get it all out and to get decorating one of my favorite ways to create a little bit of freshness in my holiday Decor is to use a new accent color that's not going to surprise you because I think when you go to the store you see every year they always bring out a new accent color whether it's Target or Pottery Barn or Katon Barrel whoever it is there's always a new accent color that comes out for the season so what I like to do is I I like to stick to a pretty neutral palette for the main ornaments that we put on the tree we still bring out the traditional ones the ones that the kids made we still put all that on the tree but I have a core core set of ornaments that are in whites and neutrals that I pull out every single year and then I might switch out the accent color because when you use an accent color uh say for like a 9t tree you might need Maybe eight maybe eight boxes at the most of ornaments you don't maybe even like six honestly for an accent color you don't necessarily need all new stuff just a few of something new will really give it a really nice refresh that's something that I've done over and over and the other thing you can do is take your accent color from one room and move it to a different room that way it suddenly feels new and fresh but you already owned it you're just switching it out I do think that the color palette can be really fun when you try to add that in through the wrapping paper through ribbons through the accent pillows all of those things are way ways in which to bring in a new color palette and to just give yourself a little bit of freshness because most of us don't keep the wrapping paper and the ribbon so you're probably going to be buying something new anyways so why not do it in a new accent color I another thing that I'm doing this year is I am trying out a brand new type of Garland stay tuned I'll be sharing that with you very soon but I think that sometimes we can get into a little bit of a rut of just pulling out the same stuff and sometimes our garlands and our Greenery even our trees they do get a little bit tired and sometimes you get to the point where it is time to replace them so if you're at that point I would think about trying a different type of Garland or maybe you're going to use the Garland you have last year somewhere else that's what I'm planning on and I'm going to try something different in the family room there's all different types of garlands out there one of my favorite sources is definitely a floral I will leave a link for it down below and I'll be sharing with you all of my finds in the next few days but I do think that they are one of the best sources and they've already told us that they know they're going to sell out so get your Garland early think about maybe switching up the type of Garland that you're using maybe you want to try flocked this year maybe maybe you want to try more of an evergreen maybe you want to try something that looks really relaxed and rustic there's a lot of different types and you can have a lot of different fun and if once you have that Garland then all the possibilities become new how are you going to hang it are you going to put it over the mirror this year are you going to lay it across the fireplace are you going to put it on the banister uh I put them on my dressers and side tables like the sideboards a lot console tables there's a lot of different things that you can do with your Garland besides just literally sticking it on the fireplace you could even frame out a window or a doorway with it I know so many exciting things to do this is why I get excited about pulling out that same stuff and just remixing it and then just kind of tweaking it as we go same thing with that Garland you might want to think about the accent color that you're using maybe some accent ribbons uh maybe you want to do dried sliced fruit this year you could try grapefruit you could try oranges you could try lemons limes right the possibilities are endless and that's where the real fun comes in is just simply making those tweaks and enjoying the whole process of it we've already been talking about this color palette a little bit but let's talk about it for just a minute longer because I do think that the color palette is a great way to really just set the stage for your home but you probably already have a color palette in your home so one of the things that I like to do at the holidays is I like to mix up the pillows to bring a freshness to the color palette I already have in my home so this year you've seen quite a bit of hounds tooth coming in so I I don't know if you guys can see Lou I think he's kind of tucked back there the the pillows are usually all messed up but I've been using a lot of hounds tooth this year I just love it but hounds tooth is just one pattern that looks really good at the holidays another pattern of course that's very traditional would be to bring out some plaids you could try plaids in a new color I brought out I brought out brown ones last year but I've been looking at a lot of kind of like charcoal kind of taupy gray colors this year I like those a lot as well but you could also bring out purples and pinks if you love a pop of color that's where the real fun is is just trying something new and then if you want to try something even more unusual try a stripe or you could bring out a floral there the sky is the limit and you can have a lot of fun at the holidays just simply grabbing from what you have and maybe just adding one or two pillows to the sofa or to the bed will give you a completely different feel anybody that has followed me for a minute knows I have a thing every year with my wrapping paper and ribbons it's one of my favorite things to do with a holiday Decor I just love it I've tried a lot of different combinations and it's a video that I have posted every year since we started our YouTube channel I love to do the rap in fact that's one of my very first uh videos ever posted on my channel was a wrapping paper video and I watch it every year because we took a little field trip and went to this shop outside of Copenhagen and I love watching that because that was that's still to this day one of my favorite places on the planet and it always gets me excited about wrapping presents so uh I'll leave a link for that down below for you and a couple of the other wrapping paper videos but I really like to switch things up so I've white wrapping paper with black ribbons black wrapping paper with white ribbons uh brown paper with black ribbons I mean a lot of times I'll just have like a different theme for each of the rooms it gets the kids excited and slightly confused because there's presents in every room and they don't know whether they're real or not in the past they were fake but now I've gotten a where I actually wrap them for real and don't tell the kids but do not tell them my secret but this year I'm super excited because I've already ordered some black wrapping paper I'm think about black on black could be really really pretty and elegant but I've also ordered some hounds tooth ribbon as well so we're going to have a lot of fun I'll be sharing all the details with you as we get closer to actually pulling everything out and putting it together but right now we're definitely in the planning phase and I want to make sure that you get everything in advance if you are looking to shop another thing that I love to do is I love to completely rethink my coffee table you guys know if you're especially if you're a subscriber regular Watcher man do I love to redo my coffee table I do it like on a weekly basis okay maybe not that often but I do like to switch things up it's always an art installation for me it's a creative Outlet just like setting the table in the dining room is for me that's how I feel about my coffee table and I just enjoy switching it up and seeing something something new and kind of giving something else a moment in there so when it comes to the holidays oh I love love to just change the coffee table it is the center of the space and it is really important to help the overall feel of the room to how the room will to how the overall oh my gosh guys it's going to change the way the room feels okay it's the center point of the room it will definitely affect the way that feels and you could go for something more modern you could go for something more minimal you can switch everything out on the coffee table or you might want to think about leaving a lot of what you have already on the coffee table and simply adding in some holiday greens into it the sky is the limit so you can go crazy you could keep with what you have I'm going to load you up on lots of ideas for what you can do for the holidays with your coffee table I have thought about switching out the coffee table itself I know I said I was going to give you ideas that were super budget friendly but let's face it we are known for being a little W wot TT way over the top on our channel so you know switching out the coffee table at the holidays could be a lot of fun if you've got one that you love and weighs 1,000 PBS you may not want to change it but uh you know it's those little things that can bring in a completely different feel and freshness into your space and you can find coffee tables that are really exp inexpensive on Amazon uh West Elm is another great source if you're looking for a coffee table I think that part of getting into a rut too is is the room itself in need of some tweaks because I was just looking at the overall room and I'm like there's just something I need to change before I put up my holiday Decor so if you're not a subscriber make sure you hit subscribe because you'll get to see this very big change it's going to make you gasp okay it's a big change all right it's big and when I was looking at my room and I was doing all my planning I was like hm there's just something I need to change about the room itself so will it stay after the holidays yes this is a permanent change that I'm making to the room but this is what happens when the holidays arrive and you're thinking about your decor and the space and what you really love uh this for me is where that kind of came from I love to look on Pinterest and get loaded up with inspiration for things that just keep me inspired about the kind of Christmases that I really like to have and it keeps me focused so that I'm not going out and going crazy buying a bunch of stuff that I won't want to pull
