We Are FINALLY Starting on The Drag NSX Build!

Running the Side Bars and Floor Structure

The process of building a car is never easy, but some projects are definitely more challenging than others. In this case, we're working on a NSX project that's been taking up a lot of time and effort. As you can see from the footage, we've made significant progress on the floor structure, and it's looking good. The main hoop is mostly done, with only a few minor adjustments needed to get everything fitting together perfectly.

I spent some time working on the main hoop, trying to get everything just right. It was a bit of a struggle, but we're making progress. We've also been working on the center X and diagonal bars, which are crucial components of the cage. With these pieces in place, we can start to think about other parts of the build, like the seat and A-pillar bars.

The Seat Installation

One of the biggest challenges when building a car is fitting the seat into its designated space. In this case, we're using a seat that was ordered specifically for Kyle's NSX. Unfortunately, it looks like we've made a bit of a mistake - the roof line is quite narrow, which makes it difficult to fit the seat without it pushing up against the cabin. We'll need to rework some of the design to get the seat in just the right place.

To fix this issue, we'll be cutting out some of the double-layered sheet metal to make room for the A-pillar bars. This will allow us to create a smooth surface for the bar to attach to, and give Kyle a comfortable and safe space to sit. It's not going to be easy, but with a bit of finesse and patience, we should be able to get it all sorted out.

The NSX Build Update

We're finally starting to make progress on the NSX build, and it's exciting to see everything coming together. We've been working hard to get the floor structure just right, and it's paying off. The main hoop is mostly done, with only a few minor tweaks needed. We're also making good progress on the center X and diagonal bars.

The NSX is an all-aluminum body car, which makes it challenging to fabricate a cradle cage inside of it. We're doing something unique here - we're actually creating the very first 25-car C-cage in an NSX that I know of. It's a big deal, and we're proud to be pushing the boundaries of what's possible with this car.

The Roof is Narrow

One of the biggest challenges when building the cage is fitting it into the narrow space between the roof and the cabin. The roof is curved over quite a bit, which makes it difficult to get the bars where they need to be. We've had to get creative to make sure everything fits together just right.

The A-Pillar Bars are Crucial

The A-pillar bars are critical components of the cage, and we're working hard to get them in place perfectly. They need to curve over just so to fit into the narrow space between the roof and the cabin, which is a bit of a challenge. We'll need to make sure that they're securely attached and won't compromise the structural integrity of the car.

The Future of the Build

We're excited to finally be making progress on this build, and we hope that you guys are too. We've got a lot more work ahead of us, but we're confident that it'll all come together in the end. Hayden has been doing some great filming work, and we're looking forward to continuing to share updates with you as we move forward.

we are finally getting started on the drag NSX build as you guys know about a year ago I picked up a NSX roller we had it sent out to our buddy Hayden shop out in Colorado and he's doing a full 25 CT roll cage in that thing and when we're done with this NSX it is going to be one bad unit I'm really excited but we still have a ton of work to do it's going to be a very serious build and I'm just excited to get rolling on this thing as you guys know we picked up this NSX and the plan was to cut this one up and turn it into the race car I would have felt bad doing that not going to lie but it was the only option I could kind of make happen because these things are just getting so hard to find especially at a reasonable price my plan was to gut this one apart sell the uh used parts and engines out of it engines there's only one engine but so what we need from this one the interior the drivetrain and we'd just be left with a clean NSX roller with a lot of money that we got back from the valuable used parts on these things but we came across another NSX roller that was already on its way to becoming a drag car it already has carbon fiber doors Alexan windshield and it was just a no-brainer so I ended up getting that one and that's the one that Hayden currently has with him so we now are left with this NSX that I have no plans for I don't know what we're going to do with it it's just been sitting nice and pretty over here by the pool but she has been spared and it is not turning into a race car at least not yet but I have no idea what we're going to do with that one we'll figure that out later but it has been a year since we dropped off the NSX roller over with Hayden and a lot of you guys have been wondering what the status on the drag NSX build has been when I dropped it off with him I told him there is no rush on this thing we have plenty of projects to get done over here as you guys can see I don't even have the MR2 back up and running yet but I told him take your time he had a ton of work to get done and he also went through the process of moving shops so he's been really busy but he did get some work done on it before he moved to his new shop but he's now settled in he just gave me a call today and he said he's going to get back on it and try to bust it out here really soon so I'm letting you guys know that the drag NSX build is coming and I'm really excited about it and we'll show you guys the progress that Hayden has made later in this video I also wanted to tell you guys now that it's July 1st we're going to do our best to pump out as many videos we can this month we got to pick up some of the slack from June because honestly June was one of the slower months we've seen in a really long time we've been busy off camera but we just didn't have that much good content to put out just a lot of little small things here and there I've been waiting on some things to move forward with the version two of platy and we have some other kind of secret projects that I'm trying to make good videos with I think you guys can see that I've tried to do more start to finish Style videos and kind of plan them out so they will do better because I'm trying to better the channel but I kind of want to go back just to the regular vloggy stuff for a month and see how it turns out some of you guys have been asking for it so drop a like on this video if that's what you want to see I don't really ask for likes often but keep smashing the like button throughout this month so I know you guys are enjoying the more frequent uploads and drop a comment how you feel about it but yeah we've been busy off camera and I think those Style videos have done really well for us obviously like the platy and things like that but I also do miss just filming random stuff bit by bit because I've also tried to keep a certain project like all in one video instead of just filming random bits of all of them and just going about the day like I always kind of have in the past just trying different stuff out but you know I just got to get some more content out there so that's what we're going to try to do and yeah hope you guys are excited for it this will be the first video we'll see how many we can put out this month as you guys know we've been getting the sidekick back up and running but first we do have just a couple small updates on the tube chassis Civic nothing crazy but as you guys saw we got the intercooler made recently and we got everything bolted up to the front of the car here well I got this nicely packaged in there she looks just like the 3D model dude it came out perfect yeah yeah it's not bad at all so got it all packaged in there I don't know if we showed you guys but like some cool stuff we tried to do was just you know some more learing with the plasma table yeah I know why is real proud of that right there yeah I'm super proud of that honestly it's just super helpful so like doing the slots and stuff being able to mount those pumps because usually they are a pain in the ass to mount yeah so we just went ahead and mounted our water pump right to the radio radiator right there just to package everything nicely this is a David Craigs water pump and we got our speed Factory radiator bolted up to the inner cooler and we got tabs welded up and everything is bolted to the front of the car and we are ready to start making some intercooler pipes here soon yep and we're just trying to get everything packaged nicely too so this thing is easy to service if for whatever reason you got to pull the whole front of the car off you know trying to have some of that in mind so we got that done cooling system's about to go together we just got some more lines to Plum for that then we're on to intercooler piping and we got this little coolant neck made too I'm not quite sure I'm in love with it yet but you know this is V1 it'll work for now and uh so yeah just plugging away at this thing trying to get it you know buttoned up so we can maybe go race it this year yeah that's the plan so couple small updates on that one but we have had more focus on the sidekick these last few days if you look in here we got the Dorito box mostly put back together intake manifolds back on white also knocked out this guy we used to have a really ghetto oil fill setup this guy right here this is a whole lot of who knows what's going on plastic junk that we don't need yeah that the Breather in the neck I don't know what this is so just needed just needed to be cleaned up I did the one on my rotary so it was really easy to just go back and order the same stuff to do this one knock it out really quick and definitely much better design that came out sweet but we are just now getting to the hydro clutch pedal conversion because this originally had a cable clutch in it now that we are switching this thing to a manual transmission we got to get the clutch sorted so yeah so being cable RX8 it's all hydraulic so just wanted to keep it all simplified there and uh we've got this thing completely yanked apart right now it's kind of a mess we're missing the steering column pedal assembly all of it it is all ripped out right now being modified so nothing really to look at in there uh we did get our master cylinder mounted though and you can see that is actually down in the fender well and it sticks up through here yeah check out this custom Mount job dude yep pretty sick my boy yep and that's straight off of RX8 uh so this one's actually f c one RX8 one was it wouldn't really have worked great it had a remote Reservoir and everything so this is the same one that's in the Corolla works good so just went with it so yeah that's where she had to end up going to line up with the firewall where we needed to with the pedal so yep it's nice and tucked out of the way though even though it's sitting in the fender well there yeah we uh double checked it with the tires on it slammed it down you know made sure it wasn't going to be in the way of anything so it shouldn't be a problem even if we do lower it more and change up the wheel setup so it's tucked up there pretty nice and then we got the pedal assembly apart right now just modifying it getting it ready to go back in we got that guy over here yep so originally was a cable clutch so had some other mechanism to hook to the cable but now we've modified it and we're adding a uh little length of Rod over here here with a arm that will push against the rod that goes to the master cylinder so this will get cut out and go on the end of here somewhere and as you move the pedal this will activate the master cylinder so we'll have ourselves a clutch yeah should be pretty solid it's coming together though will be clutch kicking in no time oh yeah we also have a little rotary meat coming up soon so we're going to try to make it out to that called Seven's day well I don't know if it's the day itself is called Seven's day and there's just there happens to be a meat or the meat itself is called Seven's day but I don't know if you're local look it up Facebook events Tampa Bay s's day meet or something yeah we'll be there Tampa Bay SS day with the sidekick and Wyatt Cora and we have a couple other buddies with some rotary powered machines as well yep we'll be out there hanging out so feel free to come out and hang out enjoy the car show and if you're local with the rotary bring it out be cool to see it yes sir but the sidekick is getting real close here after we get that wrapped up we just need to go to a universal drive shaft and pick up our drive shaft get that guy thrown in there fire this thing up she's going to be up and ripping again what's going on everybody if you don't know who I am my name is Hayden I am uh I own a Fab shop called meticulous and I have Kyle's NSX and I am doing the 251 cert in it form so I'm just going to take you guys through maybe not all of it but a big part of the process of building this forum check it out this is her in all of her glory just sitting here collecting dust since uh this Springtime sometime but I went ahead and got this mostly stripped out just got to pull out the column now I'm assuming some of you guys are wondering how I'm going to attach a chrome oy cage to an aluminum body well I haven't quite figured out it exactly right now but I have have a pretty good idea so you can bolt in the cage so basically my basic idea of this is to make some plates that either weld into the Rockers or bolt into the Rockers somehow right here in like the corner Pockets where the number one bar is going to go and then also up here across and then this bar this car will also get bracing that goes from the back of the main hoop over here to the shock Towers so that'll bolt into the top obviously so that's not a problem the biggest problem will be trying to get a plate that's thick enough that actually has enough thread engagement or I guess it's thick enough to tap to actually make it strong um but not have it too thick to where it's really hard to weld to the body so before I go to do anything crazy with this thing I'm going to clean off a couple spots and see if I can I'm going to drill a hole see how thick it is then also see if I can just weld the whole shut um the big problem with this especially depending on how how the aluminum is I'm assuming back in the day when they made this they probably used some type of spool gun I mean based off the welds I've seen so they didn't actually use a TIG welder but it at least is some type of weldable aluminum so that's the plan it might not go exactly how I'm thinking but either which way we will get this cage to bolt into the beefy parts of this car which is the rocker all right check this out I cleaned off a uh a little spot right there and it seemed to Will pretty good so I think we're in business this this uh material actually seems pretty decent at least the Rockers do I don't know about the floor we'll find out when we got to cut some of this in section it but it should work really well so I'm going to go ahead and get started on all of the plates for the for all four corners it's going to be a little bit of an ordeal um but I'll get to working on them and I'll show you guys what I come up with little NSX update for y'all if you can see I guess excuse my messy office but but I went ahead and got these 3/8 thick plates welded into the chassis I got these uh E8 in thick plates all done as well I am just kind of so the tricky thing with this car um is these really big Pockets right here and like how far ins set The Rocker Box actually is it just makes the design really weird right because like for this a pillar bar for example the bar it's going to come down the windshield come right here well that bar needs to tie in to the crossbar that's up there by your feet well I would love to take and put these plates all the way up here so that way my main floor structure goes all the way up which it's allowable to have it where I have it and the reason why it is right there is because it basically if you look in line it's right in line with where my a pillar bar is going to go so that is why this it's just what is a little tricky with this car with this car and if you look here I got my marks made so basically I'm cutting out a notch out of the tunnel if you want to call it a tunnel so this is what the front is is looking like right now and kind of how I mock it up just piece of tape got my lines right there and it's going to look like this now if you're thinking why did you cut a piece of the floor out well it's super it's easier to build this bar straight than it is to try to go up over the tunnel I've done it both ways where I've done it straight and end up over the tunnel and up over the tunnel Works in like a rear wheel drive car where the tunnel is pretty wide because the Bender doesn't because it does a looser radius of a bend and this is so tight if you look at how small and how tight this is this Bender would never do this so it's going to make it way easier just run this bar here and then I can run my perimeter bars and then later on I'm trying to be nice about the metal I take out of this so later on what I'll do is I will just Notch this right here and raise radius this piece and slide it back over and then Stitch weld this piece back in so it looks like it was um hopefully never taken out that's what we're working with just a little NSX update for y'all I'm going to go ahead and get this little piece cut out and then start running the side bars and then I'll start running the whole perimeter of the floor as you can see we made some pretty good progress on the floor structure in Kyle's NSX it is uh basically done they came out pretty good I've been trying to work on this main hoop here as well it's been fighting me a little bit but we're figuring it out uh just trying to test fit this seat but I mean everything else came out pretty good got the center X all the diagonals so it's been a while since I've had an update on the NSX and really I just been uh super swamped with things and uh trying to get caught up on projects so we are finally to fix the NSX and now you can see scenery is quite different I'm in a different shop and I'm trying to get moved in I still got a mess behind me and in this room that the end X is in but trying to give you guys a little update video on this and where we're at with this so Kyle ordered a seat and we got this put together and this is uh where we left off so we left off with the main hoop roughed out I cut these little parts right here in the roof structure to try to get the main hoop up in there so we will have to bend up another main hoop but I kind of messed up and we're going to have to go backwards a little bit to try to get the seat to fit so if you look down the car it is uh really hard to kind of tell but you can see how much the roof line comes in and so the problem with that is that puts Kyle's head right where this bar needs to come down so there's a bar that runs off the main hoop that comes down this pillar so the problem with that is uh it's going to be right in his head so there's going to be a little bit of reworking that we have to do to get the seat lower scooch it over a little bit and make some room room for the a-pillar bars that have to come up and over and attach the main hoop so we got a little bit of finessing we got to do I'm going to go in here and probably cut all this double layer of sheet metal out so I can try to hide the bar up in there further and get him uh nice and tucked in there so the seat is pretty easy to fit it's not horrible uh it just kind of sucks a little bit that we got to go backwards but no big deal we can always fix it and get it all done up for him so it's a little NSX update for y'all I hope you guys are excited for this project we will be finishing this up here in Colorado for him really soon and getting it back to him in Florida here in the next couple weeks well guys there is your drag NSX update took us a while to get the ball rolling on that thing but Hayden has started to dive into it and we're hoping to get her knocked out here pretty soon huge shout out to Hayden for filming the progress and he's going to continue to show you guys the work he is doing as he gets it done I've been talking to him for several hours at a time kind of planning this thing out because it's definitely not an easy one you guys got to remember the NSX is an all aluminum body car and it makes it really difficult to fabricate a crale cage inside of it because you just can't weld steel plates to the car and tie right into it uh we are doing the very first 25 C cage ever in an NSX that I know of I would say I'm 99.999% sure we are the first to do it and I also believe we were the first to do it in an MR2 as well that one was definitely a little bit easier considering it was all steel the NS X definitely has its challenges for sure uh the roof is also very narrow compared to the base of the car so it curves over quite a bit and getting the bars where they need to be is tough there's not much space in the cabin I'm also pretty tall and as you can see Hayden had to actually backtrack a little bit because after he got the floor made uh we found out that the seat and position of the seat is going to be a little high for me it's pushing up into that kind of roof up there so definitely some challenges to overcome with the NSX build but we got the ball rolling on her so hopefully you guys are excited and like I said I'm going to do my best to pump out as many videos we can this month so be sure to drop a like on this video if that's what you guys want to see drop a uh so yeah just plugging away at this thing trying to get it you know buttoned up so we can maybe go race it this year yeah that's the plan so couple small updates on that one but we have had more f c one RX8 one was it wouldn't really have worked great it had a remote Reservoir and everything so this is the same one that's in the Corolla works good so just went with it so yeah that's where she had to end up going to line up with the firewall where we needed to with the pedal so yep it's nice and tucked out of the way though even though it's sitting in the fender well there yeah we uh double checked it with the tires on it slammed it down you know made sure it wasn't going to be in the way of anything so it shouldn't be a problem even if we do lower it more and change up the wheel setup so it's tucked up there pretty nice and then we got the pedal assembly apart right now just modifying it getting it ready to go back in we got that guy over here yep so originally was a cable clutch so had some other mechanism to hook to the cable but now we've modified it and we're adding a uh little length of Rod over here here with a arm that will push against the rod that goes to the master cylinder so this will get cut out and go on the end of here somewhere and as you move the pedal this will activate the master cylinder so we'll have ourselves a clutch yeah should be pretty solid it's coming together though will be clutch kicking in no time oh yeah we also have a little rotary meat coming up soon so we're going to try to make it out to that called Seven's day well I don't know if it's the day itself is called Seven's day and there's just there happens to be a meat or the meat itself is called Seven's day but I don't know if you're local look it up Facebook events Tampa Bay s's day meet or something yeah we'll be there Tampa Bay SS day with the sidekick and Wyatt Cora and we have a couple other buddies with some rotary powered machines as well yep we'll be out there hanging out so feel free to come out and hang out enjoy the car show and if you're local with the rotary bring it out be cool to see it yes sir but the sidekick is getting real close here after we get that wrapped up we just need to go to a universal drive shaft and pick up our drive shaft get that guy thrown in there fire this thing up she's going to be up and ripping again what's going on everybody if you don't know who I am my name is Hayden I am uh I own a Fab shop called meticulous and I have Kyle's NSX and I am doing the 251 cert in it form so I'm just going to take you guys through maybe not all of it but a big part of the process of building this forum check it out this is her in all of her glory just sitting here collecting dust since uh this Springtime sometime but I went ahead and got this mostly stripped out just got to pull out the column now I'm assuming some of you guys are wondering how I'm going to attach a chrome oy cage to an aluminum body well I haven't quite figured out it exactly right now but I have have a pretty good idea so you can bolt in the cage so basically my basic idea of this is to make some plates that either weld into the Rockers or bolt into the Rockers somehow right here in like the corner Pockets where the number one bar is going to go and then also up here across and then this bar this car will also get bracing that goes from the back of the main hoop over here to the shock Towers so that'll bolt into the top obviously so that's not a problem the biggest problem will be trying to get a plate that's thick enough that actually has enough thread engagement or I guess it's thick enough to tap to actually make it strong um but not have it too thick to where it's really hard to weld to the body so before I go to do anything crazy with this thing I'm going to clean off a couple spots and see if I can I'm going to drill a hole see how thick it is then also see if I can just weld the whole shut um the big problem with this especially depending on how how the aluminum is I'm assuming back in the day when they made this they probably used some type of spool gun I mean based off the welds I've seen so they didn't actually use a TIG welder but it at least is some type of weldable aluminum so that's the plan it might not go exactly how I'm thinking but either which way we will get this cage to bolt into the beefy parts of this car which is the rocker all right check this out I cleaned off a uh a little spot right there and it seemed to Will pretty good so I think we're in business this this uh material actually seems pretty decent at least the Rockers do I don't know about the floor we'll find out when we got to cut some of this in section it but it should work really well so I'm going to go ahead and get started on all of the plates for the for all four corners it's going to be a little bit of an ordeal um but I'll get to working on them and I'll show you guys what I come up with little NSX update for y'all if you can see I guess excuse my messy office but but I went ahead and got these 3/8 thick plates welded into the chassis I got these uh E8 in thick plates all done as well I am just kind of so the tricky thing with this car um is these really big Pockets right here and like how far ins set The Rocker Box actually is it just makes the design really weird right because like for this a pillar bar for example the bar it's going to come down the windshield come right here well that bar needs to tie in to the crossbar that's up there by your feet well I would love to take and put these plates all the way up here so that way my main floor structure goes all the way up which it's allowable to have it where I have it and the reason why it is right there is because it basically if you look in line it's right in line with where my a pillar bar is going to go so that is why this it's just what is a little tricky with this car with this car and if you look here I got my marks made so basically I'm cutting out a notch out of the tunnel if you want to call it a tunnel so this is what the front is is looking like right now and kind of how I mock it up just piece of tape got my lines right there and it's going to look like this now if you're thinking why did you cut a piece of the floor out well it's super it's easier to build this bar straight than it is to try to go up over the tunnel I've done it both ways where I've done it straight and end up over the tunnel and up over the tunnel Works in like a rear wheel drive car where the tunnel is pretty wide because the Bender doesn't because it does a looser radius of a bend and this is so tight if you look at how small and how tight this is this Bender would never do this so it's going to make it way easier just run this bar here and then I can run my perimeter bars and then later on I'm trying to be nice about the metal I take out of this so later on what I'll do is I will just Notch this right here and raise radius this piece and slide it back over and then Stitch weld this piece back in so it looks like it was um hopefully never taken out that's what we're working with just a little NSX update for y'all I'm going to go ahead and get this little piece cut out and then start running the side bars and then I'll start running the whole perimeter of the floor as you can see we made some pretty good progress on the floor structure in Kyle's NSX it is uh basically done they came out pretty good I've been trying to work on this main hoop here as well it's been fighting me a little bit but we're figuring it out uh just trying to test fit this seat but I mean everything else came out pretty good got the center X all the diagonals so it's been a while since I've had an update on the NSX and really I just been uh super swamped with things and uh trying to get caught up on projects so we are finally to fix the NSX and now you can see scenery is quite different I'm in a different shop and I'm trying to get moved in I still got a mess behind me and in this room that the end X is in but trying to give you guys a little update video on this and where we're at with this so Kyle ordered a seat and we got this put together and this is uh where we left off so we left off with the main hoop roughed out I cut these little parts right here in the roof structure to try to get the main hoop up in there so we will have to bend up another main hoop but I kind of messed up and we're going to have to go backwards a little bit to try to get the seat to fit so if you look down the car it is uh really hard to kind of tell but you can see how much the roof line comes in and so the problem with that is that puts Kyle's head right where this bar needs to come down so there's a bar that runs off the main hoop that comes down this pillar so the problem with that is uh it's going to be right in his head so there's going to be a little bit of reworking that we have to do to get the seat lower scooch it over a little bit and make some room room for the a-pillar bars that have to come up and over and attach the main hoop so we got a little bit of finessing we got to do I'm going to go in here and probably cut all this double layer of sheet metal out so I can try to hide the bar up in there further and get him uh nice and tucked in there so the seat is pretty easy to fit it's not horrible uh it just kind of sucks a little bit that we got to go backwards but no big deal we can always fix it and get it all done up for him so it's a little NSX update for y'all I hope you guys are excited for this project we will be finishing this up here in Colorado for him really soon and getting it back to him in Florida here in the next couple weeks well guys there is your drag NSX update took us a while to get the ball rolling on that thing but Hayden has started to dive into it and we're hoping to get her knocked out here pretty soon huge shout out to Hayden for filming the progress and he's going to continue to show you guys the work he is doing as he gets it done I've been talking to him for several hours at a time kind of planning this thing out because it's definitely not an easy one you guys got to remember the NSX is an all aluminum body car and it makes it really difficult to fabricate a crale cage inside of it because you just can't weld steel plates to the car and tie right into it uh we are doing the very first 25 C cage ever in an NSX that I know of I would say I'm 99.999% sure we are the first to do it and I also believe we were the first to do it in an MR2 as well that one was definitely a little bit easier considering it was all steel the NS X definitely has its challenges for sure uh the roof is also very narrow compared to the base of the car so it curves over quite a bit and getting the bars where they need to be is tough there's not much space in the cabin I'm also pretty tall and as you can see Hayden had to actually backtrack a little bit because after he got the floor made uh we found out that the seat and position of the seat is going to be a little high for me it's pushing up into that kind of roof up there so definitely some challenges to overcome with the NSX build but we got the ball rolling on her so hopefully you guys are excited and like I said I'm going to do my best to pump out as many videos we can this month so be sure to drop a like on this video if that's what you guys want to see drop a comment down below but that's it for this video thanks for watching and we'll see you later\n"
