**Hands-On with Blackberry PlayBook 2 OS 2**
I recently had the chance to try out the latest version of the Blackberry PlayBook, running on OS 2. The device is equipped with various features and functionalities that make it an attractive option for those looking for a new tablet experience.
**Reading Pain Functionality**
One of the notable features I tested was the reading pain functionality. Unfortunately, this feature didn't work properly, which led me to close the browser as usual, utilizing my multitasking capabilities instead. Despite this issue, the overall user interface and multitasking functionality seem to be working smoothly. This is a disappointment, given that one would expect more robust performance from such a high-end device.
**Android Apps**
Another highly anticipated feature of the PlayBook 2 was the integration with Android apps. While some users were expecting a separate Store for Android apps, this feature is unfortunately not available. However, Blackberry has implemented native integration, allowing users to access Android apps directly on the tablet. I tested this functionality and found that it works seamlessly, with the app selection being limited but still satisfactory.
**App Selection and Side Loading**
One of the limitations of the PlayBook 2's Android app support is the limited selection of available apps. This can be a concern for users who rely heavily on third-party applications. However, I discovered that side loading some popular apps is possible without any issues. In fact, I was able to successfully load Winamp and Advanced Task Killer onto my device via side loading.
**Camera Support**
Another aspect of the PlayBook 2 that caught my attention was its front-facing HD camera. Unfortunately, this feature does not support Skype or other popular video conferencing apps, which is a significant drawback for those who rely on these services.
**Native Email Integration and Brick Mode**
The PlayBook 2's native email integration is one of its standout features, working smoothly without the need for Blackberry smartphone functionality. The device also boasts improved brick mode capabilities, allowing users to access various functions with ease. While I couldn't personally demonstrate this feature due to not using a Blackberry phone, it seems to be an essential aspect of the device's overall user experience.
**Conclusion and Recommendation**
Based on my hands-on experience with the PlayBook 2 OS 2, I would recommend this tablet to those who have specific needs and are willing to overlook some limitations. While the app selection is still limited, side loading can help bridge this gap. The device's native email support and multitasking functionality make it an attractive option for users like myself who rely heavily on these features. However, due to its high price point, I wouldn't recommend this tablet to everyone, especially at its full retail value of $500.
**Final Thoughts**
As a user who primarily uses their tablet for browsing the web and checking emails, I found the PlayBook 2 OS 2 to be an excellent choice. The device's gestures, fluidity, and multitasking capabilities make it an enjoyable experience. While there are some limitations to consider, I believe this tablet is perfect for those with similar needs and preferences. With its price point of around $200, which I purchased at a 50% discount, I would definitely recommend considering the PlayBook 2 OS 2 as a viable option in the market.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi there this is ranit from tech.com and in this video I'm going to talk about the Blackberry playbook and the thing is that the Blackberry playbook has got the update that's the version 2.0 so let's have a look at the same a few important things that the Blackberry playbook uh when it was launched missing were uh there was no native email client support uh you need to use a Blackberry phone to get email but now it can get the emails without the Blackberry phone we also get the calendar support we also get the what do you say uh contact support and we also get Android apps that's one big thing but not everything is Rosy so let's have a closer look at some of the new things that the Blackberry playbook version 2 brings to this tablet so here we have the Playbook and I'm going to unlock the same this won't be a detailed review because I have done a detailed review earlier you can check this link for more info regarding that so I'll be just focusing on the new changes on this tablet with this os2 update and the first thing is you get this native email support and it works brilliantly actually and it's pretty fluid I have a couple of email accounts that are set up and if I click this it will show me all the accounts that I've set up uh that's my Gmail Twitter uh Etc the Twitter account functionality is a bit limited it won't pill in all your tweets but just the direct messages also we have uh what do you say contacts and the calendar I generally do not use the calendar so it's going to be empty but the functionality is there also it'll easily pull in uh your contacts Etc from Gmail and the best part is the setting up email was relatively painlessly easy I just entered my email address and the password and uh the Playbook tablet uh filled everything I didn't need to fill in any pop 3 SMTP Etc settings so email works brilliantly and this uh notification lead uh is now active whenever you get a new email message or something like that this is going to Blink in red color so finally the lead light has a useful feature and uh let's go to the browser the browser also has been updated a bit and let me open a new tab let's go to te to uh I feel the browser has become a little bit faster now but uh I have noticed that in uh some pages where especially there is a lot of JavaScript and Ajax uh the browser tends to be a little bit slow and uh and as you can see uh this page is ax heavy and the browser was sluggish to act and one more thing that uh is new is that let me open up this story still the checkerboard pattern if you quickly scroll is uh there and uh the browser does crash at times I managed to crash this browser at least once a day so it's not super stable but again it's pretty fluid and it plays flash Etc without any issues and if you notice they have added this reading pain functionality but sadly I have complain because whenever I try this reading play pain option uh the results were not satisfactory I tried it a couple of times and it fails to render the age properly I hope Blackberry takes note of this because 80% of the time it does not work properly so it's kind of useless let me know if the reading pane functionality works fine for you but for me it doesn't so the browser has improved little bit we have this new reading pain functionality but it doesn't work properly and let me close the browser as usual the multitasking functionality works like a dream it's pretty nice so no issues regarding the same uh the next major thing that everybody was excited about is the Android apps and a lot of people thought that we'll have a separate uh Store for Android apps sadly that's not the case and actually Blackberry never uh me uh implied that we'll have a separate Store for Android apps actually some of the Android apps that are now in the what do you say the app world will be shown there won't be any distinction between a normal Blackberry app and Android app let me go to the apps my world and this will show us some of the apps for example the boat mini browser and the Dolphin Browser HD are both Android apps but sadly uh if you're looking for just a separate section for Android apps you won't find the same and some of you would be uh disappointed that uh still the selection of Android apps is pretty limited a lot of developers have not ported their Android apps uh to this app world but uh still U there are quite a few Android apps that are not available on the what do you say uh this app word but you can side load them for example I side loaded some of the apps and that's Winamp and Advanced Task Killer uh so I have made a separate video regarding how to side load the apps you can uh still side loads the apps without any issues so you can check that video for more info but if you are looking for Android store in this app world you'll be disappointed uh again I'm a little bit saddened to find that though this Playbook has a very good uh front facing HD camera we do not have support for apps like like Skype Etc and uh currently I think so the only app that will work with the front facing camera is that we can chat just with the other Playbook uh users uh so if you guys know a app that can utilize the front facing camera do let me know in the comments below but I couldn't find one so these are some of the main features of the Playbook 2 we have the most important thing was the email uh Native email integration now it works without Blackberry smartphone the brick functionality also has been improved a lot but sadly I don't use a Blackberry phone so I can't demo you that right now and the Android apps work without any issues for example I'm going to launch this boat mini browser this is an Android app and you won't find a difference between them it'll load like a normal Blackberry app and that's it we are in the browser this is how it works and you get a mini tray like this for Android apps thereby you can quickly uh jump between Android apps if you like a news reader this tap 2 is one good reader this is again an Android app that you can download from the app world so I'm just going to close this so this is the quick Hands-On with Blackberry playbook using the os2 so what are my opinions now regarding the Playbook now as the version 2 update is here do I recommend this tablet right now sadly I cannot recommend Rec commend this tablet to everybody because though it has now got the native email support and Android apps are also there but do notice that still the app selection is really limited and the Android apps that you get are still pretty limited it might be okay for people who can just side load some of the Android apps then it might be okay but for a person who likes a lot of apps still the selection of the apps is really bad uh but on a personal not uh this is my personal Playbook and and I love this tablet I have access to all the tablets like an iPad even Android tablets and the Playbook I I'm a very different kind of a user my main use of a tablet is to check emails and to browse the web that is the 90% of the task I do and for that this Playbook is really perfect because I love the gestures that are offered on this Playbook I think so these guestures and the fluidity in the OS is next to none and I also love the true multitasking feature so for a person like me uh whose primary use for a tablet is email and browsing the web then this tablet is perfect also do note that I purchased this tablet when the price was 50% off so for just about $220 or $240 this is a perfect tablet but would I have paid about $500 for this tablet definitely not but for around $200 this is a very good tablet again it has some limitations but if you can live with those limitation this is a pretty decent tablet so I hope this video makes sense that's it for now this is rangit from tech.com and hopefully I'm going to see you in my next videohi there this is ranit from tech.com and in this
