The Ultimate MacBook Pro Showdown: M3 vs M3 Pro
Welcome everybody what a great looking audience today thank you for joining me it is Andrew here from Apple Insider and Apple's new M3 series of MacBook Pro have hit shelves I've been playing with them here I've got the entire lineup that I have been testing since launch and I have received one question quite a bit which is which model should people choose should they go for the M3 version of the 14in MacBook Pro that starts at $1,600 or should they go for the M3 pro version of the MacBook Pro that starts off at two grand there's a good difference between these two and in this video I'm going to kind of break down those differences and give you my recommendation on which laptop you should probably buy
When Apple introduced the M3 lineup of chips it did a few different things so first it killed off the 13in MacBook Pro the 13in MacBook Pro the one that was equipped with the touch bar on the inside this is gone in its place Apple introduced a new lower cost version of the 14in MacBook Pro with the new lower cost MacBook Pro Apple added a bunch of benefits over the no longer available 13in MacBook Pro you get a full set of function keys you have an HDMI output and an SDXC carbureter and the Glorious new display that includes mini LED backlight and pro motion but at the same time Apple has the M3 pro version of that MacBook Pro for only $400 more
So what is the difference between the M3 version of the MacBook Pro and the M3 pro version it's not just the chip on the inside no entirely the M3 pro version gets you one additional Thunderbolt 4 port located on the side it has support for more than just one external display it comes with 10 more gigs of unified memory going from 8 gigs to 18 gigs plus you get three additional CPU cores and four additional GPU cores from a 10 core GPU to a 14 core GPU and up from an 8 to an 11 core CPU for me that's a ton of benefits for $400 you have a port you have more CPU cores more GPU cores twice more than twice the amount of memory included in here and you can include more than one external display that is a lot for $400
So if you're considering the M3 version of the 14in MacBook Pro I'd recommend wait if you can wait and and just get an M3 version of the 15in MacBook Air or even the 13in MacBook Air but I really love the 15in I would recommend that for for most people that are out there like most everybody is going to do great with a 15in MacBook Air and the M3 chipset this isn't going to arrive until early 2024 so that's why I'm saying just wait a little bit if you're able to
The only reason that I recommend going with the M3 version of the 14in MacBook Pro is if you insist on a much better display I mean Apple does have the mini LED backlight plus the promotion up to 120 HZ on that display I really like the display on the 14inch MacBook Pro so if a display is hugely important to you then yes you should get the M3 version of the 14in MacBook Pro otherwise upgrade upgrade to the M3 pro version of the 14in MacBook Pro it's only a $400 jump at that point and I think you get a lot of extra benefits most people are going to sit in those two camps go with the M3 15in MacBook Air when available or the M3 pro version of the 14in MacBook Pro
There's very few people that I think would benefit from the M3 14in MacBook Pro there's just not a ton of benefits here so that's what I would recommend but I want to hear what you guys think let me know Down Below in the comments or on Twitter at Andrew U can also let me know on threads at Andrew oara 941
There's all these deals right now on all these new machines too so if you are in the market there's some links for them Down Below in the description so be sure to check them out and see if you find anything good otherwise stay tuned I have a lot more videos coming your way
