Hey Everybody: Adam Savage's Love Letter to Lego Computer Screens
Adam Savage, creator and host of Tested.com, is 57 years old today, and as he celebrates this milestone birthday, his mind wanders back to his childhood fascination with Legos. Specifically, his love for the computer screens that came with many Lego sets in the past. "I am 57 years old and I came of age in my Lego education at exactly the time Lego was releasing its first Space sets," he reminisces. This was a great time to be alive, as these little computer screens were an exciting addition to many Lego sets.
These computer screens were indeed precious to Savage, who still knows where all his old ones are after 45 years. "I know exactly where to find all my Lego computer monitors," he writes. While some modern upgrades have been introduced since then, such as white or radar screens that didn't exist when he was a kid, Savage's love for these computer screens remains unwavering.
To satisfy his nostalgia, Savage decided to augment his collection with hand-drawn versions of the old computer screens. He made four of them when he was 11 years old and is convinced that they are still precious today. This shows how deeply ingrained his passion for Legos and their accompanying accessories is.
Savage's thoughts turned to a good friend, Angus, who had introduced him to a company called Brick Works Press. They make Lego tiles with computer screens on them, which Savage thought would be an amazing addition to any Lego collection. So, he went straight to the Brick Works website in search of these tiles. When he received his order, he couldn't wait to see how they looked.
The result was overwhelmingly positive for Savage. "They're gorgeous," he exclaims, describing them as having a very authentic look and feel that is reminiscent of the original Lego computer screens from his childhood. He's particularly pleased with the colors used in these modern tiles - they pop brightly against the background, just like their old counterparts did back then.
But the story doesn't end there for Savage. While he was enjoying his new Lego tiles, he received a note from Andrew, who works at The Brick Works, thanking him for the order and letting him know that they were busy with printing at the time of the delivery. As part of this thank-you message, a custom mini-figure of Savage himself was included in the package.
Savage is, of course, overjoyed by this thoughtful gesture. He loves the fact that his name has been printed on a Lego mini-figure - it's an amazing feeling to know that he has fans out there who are just as passionate about Legos as he is. Moreover, the way the logo was screen-printed onto the t-shirt is just fantastic; Savage appreciates the attention to detail that Andrew and The Brick Works Press brought to this project.
However, Savage also wants to share a bit of news with his fans. He recently heard about a person named Brick Assembly who has taken their passion for Legos to an entirely new level. Brick Assembly has managed to embed a completely working OLED screen into a Lego-compatible form factor - it plugs in and works just like the original computer screens Savage grew up with.
Savage is certainly inspired by this achievement. He thinks that such precision and dedication are truly amazing, especially when considering how challenging it must have been to create something so functional within the confines of the Lego universe. This level of precision and skill brings a whole new dimension to our appreciation for the intricate world of Legos.
In closing, Savage thanks his fans once again for watching this video - he's grateful that they've been with him on this journey through nostalgia and innovation. He also invites them to explore The Brick Works website or check out some merchandise from Tested.com, which now features some amazing new designs inspired by the work of a graphic designer named Brian Uder.
Brian Uder is someone who has contributed to Tested.com's merchandise line recently, sending over his wonderful stickers that have been updated with their latest logo. The result is some fantastic designs - there are stickers of Savage in different Lego-inspired settings: as an astronaut on Mars, as the captain of a spaceship flying through space, or even in a futuristic alien setting. These new stickers look amazing and will surely be cherished by fans of both Lego and Tested.com.
So, if you're looking for something to enhance your Lego collection or just want some fun merchandise to show off your passion for these wonderful bricks, then get yourself to Tested.com's store. There are plenty of interesting items available there, each one inspired by the love for Legos that Adam Savage shares with all his fans.
