Jon on CNBC Talking Apple & iPad 2

The iPad 2 is Here: A New Era in Tablet Computing

Yesterday, at a huge event in California, Steve Jobs unveiled Apple's updated version of its tablet computer. The new model, dubbed the iPad 2, comes with several exciting features, including faster processors, thinner designs, and two cameras. This latest iteration also boasts a sleek white finish, which has already generated significant buzz among consumers.

The announcement of the iPad 2 has sent Apple stock soaring in recent days, thanks in part to Steve Jobs' surprise appearance at the event. The fact that he was able to make a dramatic entrance after a hiatus has left many people thrilled and eager to get their hands on the new device.

But what does this mean for Apple's future success? We spoke with senior research analyst Andy Hargreaves from Pacific Crest Securities, who shared his insights on the iPad 2. According to Hargreaves, the new model is not a revolutionary design, but rather an evolutionary update that brings several features and improvements that consumers have been clamoring for.

One of the key aspects of the iPad 2 is its improved performance. With a two-fold increase in processing speed, users can expect a smoother and more responsive experience. Additionally, the device now boasts a nine times better graphic processing unit (GPU), which will provide enhanced graphics capabilities. While these upgrades may not be earth-shattering, they are certainly welcome improvements that will no doubt appeal to consumers.

Another notable feature of the iPad 2 is its sleeker design. Measuring in at just 0.8 inches thick and weighing in at 1.3 pounds, this latest iteration is noticeably thinner and lighter than its predecessor. This reduced size and weight make the device more portable and easy to carry around, making it an attractive option for those looking for a convenient and accessible computing experience.

In addition to its design and performance improvements, the iPad 2 also comes with two cameras. While the exact specifications of these cameras are not yet clear, it's likely that they will offer improved image quality and functionality compared to the single camera found on the original iPad.

One thing is certain: the iPad 2 has generated significant excitement among consumers. With its sleek design, impressive performance upgrades, and addition of two cameras, this latest iteration is sure to be a hit with those looking for a reliable and feature-packed computing device.

But what does this mean for Apple's stock? According to Hargreaves, the company's shares are likely to continue their upward trajectory in the coming months. With sales projections suggesting that Apple could move 40 million iPads in 2011, there is no doubt that the company has a significant advantage in terms of market share and consumer demand.

According to Hargreaves' estimates, Apple stock is likely to reach $420 by the end of 2011. While this may seem like a lofty target, it's worth noting that the company has consistently demonstrated its ability to drive growth and innovation through its products. With the iPad 2 at the forefront of this effort, there is no reason to doubt that Apple will continue to excel in the coming months.

Ultimately, the success of the iPad 2 will depend on how well it meets consumer demand and expectations. With its impressive performance upgrades, sleek design, and addition of two cameras, this latest iteration has all the makings of a hit device. As consumers begin to get their hands on the new model, it will be interesting to see how it fares in terms of sales and market share. One thing is certain: Apple's continued commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction will undoubtedly keep the company at the forefront of the tablet computing market for years to come.

In conclusion, the iPad 2 represents a significant step forward for Apple in the world of tablet computing. With its impressive performance upgrades, sleek design, and addition of two cameras, this latest iteration is sure to be a hit with consumers. As we look to the future, it's clear that Apple will continue to excel in terms of innovation and customer satisfaction, ensuring the company remains at the top of the market for years to come.

managing the supply chain from a component cost perspective and I don't see anything going on right now especially with their recent component pre- purchase deals it's going to change that John A lot of people would credit the bloggers as being as accurate if not more accurate than the analysts on Apple where do you see the stock going uh you know you were talking about margins uh a little lower margin can certainly be made up with bulk sales uh Apple moved 15 million iPads in 2010 Steve Jobs announced and they're speculating they can move as many as 40 million in 2011 so why would that take the stock in your view uh certainly up I I think would be the the logical explanation uh Market is very excited for the tablet it's very tablet hungry uh certainly Apple's been a beacon of innovation in the past the iPad 2 is viewed a bit more evolutionary than revolutionary but still bringing a lot of features that people were expecting and hoping for I guess the market is there's a significant pun intended core of Apple buyers who are going to buy whatever the company comes out with aren't they you know there are always the dedicated Apple Fans who will go out there and support the company regardless but I think what you're going to see is a huge influx of buyers that were waiting for this generation of iPad those that were waiting for the new one to come out you heard it countlessly at Apple retail stores you heard it reported online people wanted thinner people wanted cameras and they were looking for faster and while it's not a revolutionary design or anything that we couldn't and there's just nobody that can match them on content and apps and really the hardware the hardware improvements are nice uh they are evolutionary but it's the it's the soft it's the software and the ecosystem that drives sales and I don't see anything changing the momentum that they have where do you think the stop will go to Andy we think it goes to 420 in the next uh well actually by the end of 2011 and that's based on a multiple that I think is uh pretty reasonable considering the growth rate right now gentlemen thank you both Andy har Greaves and John ringer thank you thank you thanksokay
