As we stepped into the room, it was clear that this space had once been used as a bedroom, but its last owner had repurposed it as an office. very honored that he's asked Jo and I to come and design decorate with him and really make it a home this is so exciting so good to see you it's so cool looking from the outside I can't wait to see the inside he's really living the Hollywood dream I think now in this 1920s house so I just want to make sure that this house and the space in general feels masculine enough cuz I mean I'm going to be living here alone at least for now I'm sure Kate will have some ideas that don't exactly gel with that but hopefully I can lean on Joey a little bit and get a teammate to go after some of the darker tones and leather and whatnot you feel good I feel good I mean I'm kind of overwhelmed there's a lot to do first house it is overwhelming it's and it's really empty I'm pretty excited though because it's pretty nice to have another dude to do these things with cuz it's it's typically me and a bunch of girls all right show show you walk right into the living room which is very common in these old houses front door just opens straight up into this nice size living room you can see straight into the dining room Beyond this is amazing what is this Rec player uh those are he is a screenwriter the first thing that he moves into his house are two vintage typewriters Kate saw these two old typewriters that I brought over that were gifts to me in the past and now she wants to use it somehow for the design of the place use a computer though right you actually type on it no no he doesn't this one kind of I use okay did he just say he still uses them this is original 1923 thisle is beautiful this thing is like so substant it's beautiful wood it has some insets some molding and also some amazing tile I think it should be kind of dark just cuz you are a man mhm and men tend towards dark colors I hope that we don't get into like a thing with him that the gu's got to have the dark wood I learned to give that up a long time ago it's not about having dark colors to make your space masculine there's other ways we can do that wow look at this and this is your uh your one piece of furniture you have so far Tyler uh the one piece of furniture I have in the living room right now is a chair that has seen better days it used to be in my house when I was growing up and it's been in storage and I'd like to kind of bring it back to life somehow the living room has this amazing wide doorway that leads straight into the dining room the dining room dining dining love it that's not the look you're going for right the electrician found two wallcon is here too they they were favorite in that's cool you think that it's just a box but it's actually a Cove Cove ceiling Cove it's always so interesting to see the choices that people made what is this this is an old rug that uh used to belong to my mom that she gave to me so I thought we could use it in the living room or the dining room or whever okay okay this is really exciting a flower on it flowers to my delight this rug has the color pink in it I am so excited because to me this means she's your little angel on the shoulder you're the D side Tyler Tyler come on Tyler Kate and Joey are playing devil and angel over this rug Tyler don't put the rug in this space trust me Tyler I'm going with her I'm definitely thank you oh it has your dark brown exactly see see it's manly flowers Joey exactly I thought this was what he was using to like wrap up his furniture in or something so okay oh you did such a pretty painting oh my gosh they're clouds I think this was a nursery and Grandma actually did the the previous owner told me this no yeah so this is probably where like she got her diapers changed probably yeah so there's a lot of history here a lot of these old houses have separate eating areas breakfast nooks he has a dining room close by I don't think he needs two tables it's the bar I like that oh I mean a bar is really like the quintessential bachelor pad thing I totally can see how this could be turned into a really cool like little bar lounge setup the thing that we have to change about this bar area are those clouds we can keep the glasses wine glasses and tumblers and stuff in here what's going on with this color do you want this maybe match the mantle that' be good you have another floral rug yes I do indeed in the corner what is the thing with these rugs is your mom 250 years old Joey for the record my mom is not 250 years old love you very much Mom the master bedroom is very typical of the style house it's a bit small I think it'll be perfect for a cozy master bedroom oh my gosh don't is that your alarm system that's my alarm you wouldn't want a bat on the wall you're not B on the wall want the bachelor that doesn't want Sports memorable around is music to my ears well I like this that it's very large it is very large the bed is big and wood and brown and goes with everything that I want for this place we'll build around it Tyler would you like some bedroom to go with that bed did you get the biggest bed in the catalog M naughty boy it's dark you noticed that you know that manly manly manly manly Brown this was another thing where the electricians found two sconces and the ceiling light So when you buy this place you had no idea that all these light fixture Outlets were all in these walls no clue this house was never fully retrofitted so I'm finding a lot of little surprises along the way you rewired the whole house rewired the whole house oh wow we are going to have to lighten up the rest of that master bedroom give him some functional elements like a dresser and curtains and all that stuff to really make it a cozy space moving on I love we go play some baseball yes let's take a baseball break I like a the office is really important to me because I work from home and I'm going to be spending a ton of time in it and I kind of want it to have its own feel that's separate from the living room and the rest of the house interesting colors yeah not crazy about the colors I think this at some point was a bedroom but the last owner used it as an office too do you have an office you go to or you actually no I work from home so this will be so you're making movies in this room how often do you get to work with someone as cool as a movie screenwriter this place should be so magical I mean what kind of movies you making like Jurassic Park or like Fried Green Tomatoes somewhere between the two somewhere between those two parallel Jurassic Park and fried green tomatoes West Anderson e a little bit sure I mean I I think something colorful old rugs in the backyard and Kate brings out this bizarre old vintage box filled with all these knickknacks grab things that look good to you that just make you feel good and then from that I can see those elements and then help you put it to a practical application in this inspiration trunk I have all kinds of goodies they look like a jumbled mess but what I want Tyler to do is see what really viscerally inspires him I love this it has this kind of Dusty blue color which is in some of those rugs I like this Dusty blue so I feel like that's a good reference for us to have I think gold over silver I think that that's good beautiful old wood yeah so you're thinking this color for like your mantle and the bar exactly I'm mainly attracted to things that are a little bit more toned down even just like this color of the sage to balance that out a few things that are a little bit shinier would be nice actually this thing of buttons to me repres present just a lot of different colors some kind of white but I don't know which kind maybe like that oh that's kind of like I mean there's a lot of Reds in the rugs right that's true there are a lot of Reds it's a pomegranate it's so funny that they brought this pomegranate thing I have the pomegranate tree in the back and I think that that would be a great little reference point beautiful all right uh these are wallpapers we were talking about bringing in pattern in the office well I love all the wallpapers I it's too many good ones to decide from but we're going to find something great Tyler is on the hunt for his owl I love
