Synology DS412+ NAS Unboxing & Overview

Reviewing the Synology DS 412+ and its Impressive Features

I had previously reviewed the Synology 2 Bay NAS, the DS212J, which was an excellent unit, and this is a new model by Synology that was just launched in March 2012. The DS 412+ comes with four bays, so let's have a closer look at it.

The Synology DS 412+ is a heavy-duty storage solution designed for businesses and office users. It comes with robust features such as web server capabilities, file serving, backup for Macs, Windows, and Linux, and even support for webcams to do surveillance. This unit is a four-bay NAS, which allows it to store up to 16 TB of data when populated with four hard drives, each with a maximum capacity of 4 TB.

When I received the unit, I was impressed by its build quality and features. The Synology DS 412+ comes with a power cord, documentation, two Ethernet cables, a power brick, and a bunch of screws to mount the hard drives. It's easy to set up, and the instructions are minimal but sufficient.

The actual unit is designed to be easily upgraded or replaced by popping out the drives. Each bay can hold a maximum of four hard drives, which can be hot-swapped in case one fails. The front panel has status lights indicating drive activity and power status, as well as a USB port for connecting external devices. The Synology logo features perforations that allow cool air to pass over the hard drives, keeping them cool from the outside.

Moving towards the back of the unit, we find two 92mm fans that provide redundancy in case one fails. These fans are designed to ensure continuous operation even if one of them is not working properly. The two Gigabit Ethernet ports are also fail-over capable, allowing for high-speed connections and link aggregation. This feature ensures that data can be transmitted quickly and reliably.

In the middle section, we find a power brick and an eSATA port, as well as two USB 3.0 ports for connecting external devices or peripherals. The unit is designed to be compact but also powerful, making it ideal for office and enterprise use cases.

Overall, the Synology DS 412+ is an impressive storage solution that offers robust features, reliable operation, and ease of use. It's clear that Synology has put a lot of thought into designing this unit to meet the needs of businesses and office users. In my next video, I'll be doing an in-depth review of this unit, including setting it up and testing its capabilities.

The Synology DS 412+ is available for purchase now, and I recommend checking out the link provided in the description box below. Thank you to Synology for sending me this unit for review. If you have any questions or comments about this review, please leave them down below.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi there this is ranit from Tech tos.com and today we'll be doing the unboxing of this new Nas by sonology this is a 4B Nas If you recall about 5 months ago I had reviewed the Synology 2 Bay Nas that was the ds212j and it was an excellent Nas and this is a new model by senology that was just launched this March 2012 and this is the DS 412 plus and this is a 4B ass so let's have a closer look at the same oh man this box is heavy so here are I have the ds412 plus and this is my trusty ds212 j2p s love this unit before unboxing let just let me give you an idea uh the senene has run on the uh dis station uh and the dis station offers a lot of features some of them are given here it's suppose ice cussy it has a web server you can do file serving with the same it has robust backup for Macs windows and even Linux you can actually add webcams to this to do surveillance and this is the actual DS 412 plus State unit that has four Bas and again on the back it gives the same photograph and let us quickly just open this and I want to thank sonology for sending this uh unit all the way from taian for review and first we get the power cable let me put it on the side and what do we have here we have welcome read this first we have some mini documentation it just says how to set it up you need to insert this disc and install the OS on the dis station let me keep it back on the side then we have actually two ethernet cables because this unit is meant for office and Enterprise and it has dual GB l hands and finally we have the power brck and we also get a bunch of screws so that we can mount the hard drives I'm just going to keep all these things back yeah and this is the actual dis station itself let me lift it and actually uh you do not get any drives prepopulated it can take up to four hard drives but for testing Synology was kind enough to loan me a couple of hard drives and I think so they have pre-installed it here for me so that I can effectively test it for you guys so let's have a closer look at this unit and uh this part comes out easily and actually here you can populate up to four drives and you can easily take out the drive and as expected uh signology has prepopulated this unit with three hard drives you can actually add up to four hard drives to the same and each hard drive can have a maximum capacity of 4 TB so technically speaking you can have a storage capacity of 16 tab with this unit by populating 4 four hard drives but if you use options like uh raid obviously the capacity will be a little bit lower but redundant this is the second Bay and as you can see it is so easy to pull out the drives and uh the drives are hot strappable so even when the unit is working and let's say this drive dies down you just you can take it out pop in a new drive and and just slide the drive back that's it it's so easy and we can put this L back and on the front we have some status lights let me zoom in and the front we have some status lights first is the status LED light then we have dis one dis 2 dis 3 and disc 4 LED lights and we also have a USB port on the front and we have a power switch and if you move the unit to this side we have the enology logo do note the perforations on the sonology logo actually these are the V and cool air is sucked from outside to to keep the hard drives cool from the Synology logo and that cool air passes over the hard drives and is exhausted out if we move towards the back we have two uh 92mm fans and these fans are redundant uh that means if even one fan fails the other will continue to work and again we have two gigb ethernet uh land ports and these are fail over for example let's say one of your land port fails then also the unit will continue to work and this uh these land ports also allow us link aggregation for very high speeds and we uh the power brick goes over here and we also have esart port and we have two usb3 ports moving on to this side again we have nothing but the logo and this is the front this ds412 plus unit is primarily designed for businesses and office users and this unit comes with some pretty good Hardware actually it Sports a 2.1 GHz dual core processor inside and it also hoses 1 GB of RAM I'll also be making a video how to set up this unit and I'll be testing this unit for the next couple of weeks and I'll be doing an in-depth review for the same that's it for now this is ranit from Tech tos.com and hopefully I'm going to see you in my next videohi there this is ranit from Tech tos.com and today we'll be doing the
