Resident Evil Village on iPhone 15 Pro Max and M2 iPad Pro - The BEST Looking Mobile Game

Experimenting with iPhone Gaming: A Hands-On Experience

I was under the impression that this wouldn't work on an ARM device, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it does work on the iPhone. The game is from AMD and is running smoothly, even at a high level of quality. While there are some minor hiccups, I can get over them given the impressive graphics and performance.

One of the standout features of this experience is the Fidelity FX screen space reflection, volumetric lighting, Shadow quality, contact Shadows, Shadow cash lens flare film noise depth of field, dep of field lens distortion options. These settings allow for a level of customization that's often seen on PC and console platforms, but is now available on mobile devices.

The Performance Mode 60fps setting is also impressive, with smooth gameplay even at the highest levels. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is capable of delivering a high frame rate, making it ideal for fast-paced games like this one. While there may be some minor issues, such as screen tearing or lag, these can often be smoothed out with adjustments to settings.

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 is also coming to iOS devices, and other publishers are expected to follow suit. This marks a significant shift in gaming on mobile devices, where we're now seeing console-quality games available for download. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is well-suited for this type of gaming, with its powerful processor and high-resolution display.

One notable feature of the iPhone's USB-C port is that it supports video output. This means that developers can create games that take advantage of a larger display, but scaling to different aspect ratios still needs work. However, some apps like SteamLink are able to scale properly, filling the entire screen with minimal lag.

The iPad Pro with the M2 chip offers significantly more performance than the iPhone 15 Pro Max and ARM device, allowing for smoother gameplay at higher resolutions. The device is also capable of producing a high frame rate, making it ideal for fast-paced games like this one. I've set the display to 120Hz, which provides a smooth experience even in intense moments.

Controller support is another area where iOS excels, with many games including support for Bluetooth controllers from PS4 and PS5 devices. This allows players to choose their preferred controller, whether it's a standard iPhone accessory or a more advanced gaming peripheral.

A Universal Purchase System Would be Ideal

While the App Store on an iMac offers Resident Evil 4 for $15.99, the same game costs $39.99 on the iPhone. A universal purchase system would allow players to buy and play games across multiple devices, eliminating the need to purchase individual versions of the same title.

This could have a significant impact on the gaming industry, making it easier for developers to create cross-platform experiences that cater to a wide range of devices. Having the ability to play a game on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac would be incredibly convenient, especially when working with demanding games that require higher-end hardware.

The Future of Gaming on Apple Silicon

As we look to the future, it's clear that Apple is committed to creating high-quality gaming experiences across its range of devices. The M3 chips for MacBook and iMac will further enhance performance, allowing for even more demanding titles to be developed.

A Universal Purchase System Would Be a Significant Development in Gaming on Apple Devices

The prospect of being able to buy a game once and play it across multiple devices is incredibly appealing. With the M3 chips set to power Macs and iMacs, developers will have access to even more powerful hardware, allowing for even more impressive graphics and performance.

This would be a significant development in gaming on Apple devices, providing players with a seamless experience that spans multiple platforms. Whether you're playing games on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, having the ability to purchase a game once and play it across all your devices would be incredibly convenient.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what's going on everybody it's ETA Prime back here again today we're going to be taking a look at the newly released Resident Evil Village for your iPhone and iPad so this is a port of the PC game and uh I'm pretty blown away so what I've got going on right now is the iPhone 15 Pro Max I'm also using the uh USB type-c backbone controller here to play the game but you could play it with touch controls if you want to or you could connect a Bluetooth controller like an Xbox controller PS4 or PS5 in this video I also want to show you this game running on the iPad Pro with the M2 Chip because it definitely puts out a lot more performance than the a17 than the iPhone 15 but either way I mean it's pretty amazing that they have this game running so well on a mobile device with an armed chip okay so here's my iPhone 15 Pro Max Village is available from the App Store you can actually download it for free and play up till a certain point after that it's actually $39.99 definitely kind of expensive for you know know a game on a phone but I wouldn't consider this a mobile game this is the PC Port of Resident Evil Village and I mean they did an amazing job here so what I want to do here is actually show you the settings we have here because it's pretty extensive uh then we'll get into a little bit of gameplay on the built-in iPhone screen then I'll connect this to my game capture because with the new iPhone 15 Pro Max we do have USB type-c and video out so you can actually connect this to a larger display okay so straight off the bat if you don't have a controller we've got onscreen controls personally I'm not a huge fan of these so I would like to use you know a physical controller you can go with something like the new backbone uh it's got USB type-c works with the iPhone 15 Pro Max or if you've got a PS4 PS5 or an Xbox controller you can connect it over bluetoo so the first thing I want to do here is just go over the options we have at least for the graphics because it's pretty extensive and I know it's a bit hard to see here so what I'm going to do is plug my iPhone into my game capture so we can get a closer look and by the way through all of my testing this is actually plugged into a game capture device we're not recording directly on the iPhone so we're not going to kill performance by recording and playing a game at the same time but like I mentioned first thing I wanted to show you here were the display options now on my iPhone 15 for the preset I usually choose balanced but we've got recommended prioritize performance balanced or prioritize Graphics so for me I usually just go to balanced HD mode we can turn this on or off screen resolution we've actually got quite a few options here 1950 by 900 2340 x 1080 and 2796 X 1290 for the iPhone 15 here I'm at 1950 by 900 still looks great on this smaller display for the frame rate I go to 60 but we do have 30 60 120 and variable on the iPhone 120 is kind of out of the question even at those lower settings personally I set this up for 60 with that balance preset but I'm moving down you can see we've got more options metal FX upscaling we've got performance we can turn it off or we can set it to Quality performance is really going to help out with uh you know running this game at full speed moving down a bit more here texture quality high and I mean we can go way up unfortunately with something like this I'd say the first one here at high that's where we need to be texture filter quality also leave this at high but uh again you got a lot to mess around with here you can definitely experiment mesh quality quity ambient inclusion Fidelity effects so uh was under the impression that this wouldn't work on arm but uh you know it is from AMD it is working here but we can go ahead and turn this off if we want to I leave it right here at Fidelity FX screen space reflection volumetric lighting Shadow quality contact Shadows Shadow cash lens flare film noise depth of field dep of field lens Distortion I mean I mean basically we've got all of the settings that we do with this game on PC on our iPhone and our iPad it's pretty cool but what I do here what I do here preset preset balanced balanced frame rate 60 and I'm good to go okay so from the settings performance mode 60fps and even like this there are a few hiccups here and there on the iPhone 15 Pro Max but uh it's definitely something I can get over given how good this game looks being on a phone I mean it's absolutely amazing what they've done here Capcom is also going to be releasing Resident Evil 4 for iOS and there's a few more Publishers out there Assassin's Creed Mirage should be coming and I'm really excited about this because we're at a point point with these arm chips where we're going to get real console quality games in some cases depending on the console we may even see better quality here is she okay sleeping like a well like a baby that smells good what's that hands off Mis doing a little bit of screen capture here with the iPhone 15 Pro Max and one thing to keep in mind is we've got USB type-c which does support video out I've done a couple videos showing off the iPhone gaming on a bigger display play games like this would transfer really well over there but scaling to those different aspect ratios is something that developers still need to kind of get a hang of now I do see in the future we'd be able to plug this in and get that 16x9 aspect ratio on a larger display it'll kind of detect it because right now there are a few apps that actually scale up properly like steamlink if you plug your iPhone into a larger display and start up steam link you'll see that it fills the whole screen so it is possible and and again this game works on iPads with the M1 chip and up this is the iPad Pro with the M2 Chip which does offer significantly more CPU and GPU performance than the a17 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max and I'm actually set at 120 HZ I don't think we're quite there but this is a really smooth experience on this iPad Pro I'm also using an Xbox controller connected over Bluetooth and iOS is had really good controller support for a while now in fact all of their apple arcade games do support a controller so you can go with something really simple like a PS4 or a PS5 controller if you have it all in all I think this is really impressive and I can't wait to see what developers do next I'd love to see some more console and PC games come to uh devices like this and I'm actually really glad that apple is kind of giving a little bit of a push towards gaming on their apple silicon chips at least towards higher end gaming because we've always been able to play Flappy Bird on devices like this but yeah I mean seeing some PC and console games coming to phones and tablets is really nice and with the recent announcement of the M3 chips for MacBook and IMAX I think we'll see some really nice gaming on Mac coming up very shortly having that crossplatform compatibility between your iPad your iPhone and your Mac would be pretty cool for instance if I could buy this game right now on iPhone and then also play it on my iMac now I don't think that's how it works at the time of making this video but it'd be pretty cool because you know when you're working with a higher-end chip you could run it on your MacBook your iMac your Mac Mini looks better than it would on your phone but when you're on the go you can just boot it right back up might be using lower settings lower resolution but you can still play that same game it'd be really cool if they did Universal purchases and I actually just looked on the App Store on a Mac it is not universally supported on all platforms so it's $15.99 over here on an iMac but it's $39.99 over on iPhone right now if they could get around this and do kind of a universal purchase system I think that would definitely work out but that's going to wrap it up for this video really appreciate you watching I was just kind of excited about this game coming over to an arm platform like this and uh it works out much better than I ever thought it would if you've got
