Wrinkled Black Paint and a Heat Gun
I love using wrinkled black paint because it's almost impossible to mess up, especially in cold weather when paint doesn't like to cooperate. Just spray a little bit and hit it with a heat gun, and I'm good to go. As a subscriber, I was recently sent a really cool care package filled with wiring stuff that I've been meaning to use, including what I'm actually working with right now - a sweet junction block.
Instead of having all those wires running to the battery like I used to, I can just have one wire running to this and then have the leads coming off of it to power accessories and other things. The care package included some really cool heat shrink, cool connectors, and some fancy relays that I've been eager to play with. This is also a ground junction block by the way, but it looks really nice.
I want to mount this Junction block right down here on the fuse panel brackets, so I can have some wires routed through this hole and it won't be too noticeable. It'll actually clean up things a lot, and it'll look nice. I'm happy with how that's going to turn out. It doesn't look like it now, but that's what's gonna clean up the bay so much.
Relocating Fuse Boxes
I saw a lot of comments from people when they heard that I was trying to clean up the bay that I should move the fuse boxes inside the car and relocate the battery. I don't want to do that. It would clean up the bay a ton aesthetically, but it adds a lot of time because you have to sit there and solder each wire. Frankly, that's a point at which God forbid I mess something up or if connections aren't good, then something could go wrong on the car.
Right now, knock on wood, the car is running fine, so I don't want to overcomplicate things. I'm just trying to clean up wiring a little bit. I also think I want to leave the battery there - there's no reason for me to move it inside the car. It's kind of nice having it there and easy to access while working on the car in case you need power or want to quickly look at the battery.
Balancing Functionality and Aesthetics
There's a weird balance of wanting everything to be show-worthy and looking super nice, then also being functional. I'm not trying to do a full crazy Jimmy Oak-style bay clean like I've seen in other cars. I haven't really done too much yet, but I painted things here and there and hid the brake lines underneath that little edge. Eventually, I want to extend those lines, but for now, I'm just trying to keep everything tidy as I go.
Engine Assembly and Machine Shop
Today's upload was a little bit late because we got pretty involved in the engine assembly and everything, which will be shown in tomorrow's video. For now, I'll just read from the invoice of what was done at the machine shop. It includes cleaning the block clearance, polishing the crank deck, repairing the block, reconditioning the 16 valve head, installing new valve guides, adjusting the valve height, and replacing the valve stem seals.
The final bill is a testament to how serious this project is going to be - it's safe to say that it's going to be very legit and I'm hoping it will last very long and make good compression. I'm excited to walk you guys through the process with us tomorrow, so get ready for another update on the project!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys we got a pretty sweet date today or at least I hope it's gonna be a sweet day there's a lot of stuff going on first off we're gonna go get a haircut long overdue for that I don't like oh my hair gets long it's not fun then we're gonna do a fun thing we're gonna go get the BMW tuned hoping it'll make over 750 horsepower that's all you know that'd be pretty rad then if fingers crossed they got it done we might be picking up my motor and we might be picking up the 240 I don't know it's a it's a lot of stuff a lot of stuff but a Mustang yep Shelby the hair is cut and we are off to psi to go get my car tuned now we don't really have a ton of time since the dyno place is closing early so I think we're just gonna do a tune on e85 and Jake from motive says he can just dial back the tune from there I'll probably just pull some timing and some boost and then it'll be safe on 93 all right so we are at precision sport in Winter Park about to go get the car dyno'd before we do I just wanted to give a brief update on everything that's different with the car obviously it has the LSD now and it has the upgraded brakes but in terms of the engine since the last tune Chris what is different we actually have a juice box rigged into it now so we're not using a turbo smart but rather we're gonna be controlling the boost pressure by ECU directly which is how Jake promoted likes tuna it's a little bit safer like that and so we have the boost box setup right here we've also gone and routed boost pressure from the turbo to the top port of the wastegate and that's gonna keep the wastegate more equalized pressure so you're not just relying on the spring to keep the wastegate closed but rather you're also using the pressure on the diaphragm we've gone to a hob switch which is a 10 psi hop switch into the meth bug on the charge pipe and that sends activation to the forge controller and then also we went and did a nifty little nifty little switch inside the glove box so that Adam can turn the port injection on and off I have to turn that on when I use my e85 yep and so it's all the way down there so it's the that that's the the go-fast switch on or off yeah that's rad so what do you think the car is gonna make I mean we did what like six oh five on the dyno with a pump and I'm pretty sure like Jake can go wherever he wants go yeah it's really up to like gonna be up to you but I think we'll be able to comfortably make 650 I think if he wants to we can shoot up to 700 just to prove that we'll do 700 yeah and that would be cool to have like a map for 700 like for sure half mile shootouts and stuff like that I know he said that he thinks like 650 is the best place to leave the car in terms of like daily reliability but I think by all means we could have over 700 horsepower Matt for a you know if I'm ever street race in the Lambo or something like that no I mean I think 700 horsepower would be great for doing a few pools and I mean you might get a little heat so from you know doing stuff like that but it's not like you know you're gonna be daily driving we were pushing to that 700 horsepower mark and the most important thing that we've done this time to is install the limited slip differential which looks really good when it fine so really excited to see that are we like to talk about customer cars at all like because this Porsche is crazy ya know it's such a sleeper can you can you say what's done to it so this is a 2009 I believe Porsche Turbo S it's actually fully Specht out it's got full leather interior upgrade with yellow stitching custom and the carbon ceramic brakes but what's really important on this car is that we have it set up with the Alfa i bleep hate performance kit Alfa makes a ton of upgrades for like these Porsche turbos and what it is it's a it's a factory fitment turbo with new inner coolers carbon fiber shrouds silicone couplings all over the place and then this awesome custom rear exhaust which is basically like a straight pipe with no cats it sounds great you hear the turbo is all the time and last time it died note I think it did like 700 all wheel horsepower all-wheel drive sleeper Porsche like this dude must smoke so many people like GTRs and stuff and just blow their minds you didn't know what you were walking up on you would be like it doesn't it doesn't look like anything crazy I think it's so cool good nuts I love this this would walk a gt3 yeah talk about a stacked up parking lot you guys got a full house here today it's crazy bunch of em's and stuff this is gonna sound so awful but I've never seen a Starbucks in the public and that's that's like dreams right there Chris how's the car feel feels good yeah we're about to go get a tune but there's still another car on the dyno so we're gonna go get some Starbucks it's Christmas favor he loves coffee no yeah you can pick coffee you tell me I can get a public sub and then I can go and get public Starbucks it's amazing I corrupted Chris made him get a shot of espresso in his coffee can you carry this I want to blog does vlogging embarrassed when you choose the bumpiest road in the world this is what happens yeah no no no that's so bad this is so difficult I just want to do a pool that off don't do it check it out with the brakes not really the best angle to see them but they're in there the last card that I know believe it or not was actually an i8 how cool is that all right so this is just a base map at wastegate pressure yeah so it wasn't supposed to go to 26 pounds so good call him button off yeah I've better made a crazy amount of torque though so he can really carry through this map because it ran a little bit too much boost until it's actually properly tuned and this was just a base map but I made 640 foot-pounds of torque wild very nice looking curve too if you remember compared to last time initially I was kind of nervous about having Jake promotive tune-up remotely because he isn't here but it's kind of cool because he's been able to figure out kind of the stuff that's going on and the stuff that's wrong with the car from what like a thousand miles away yeah it's pretty cool he's like he's like okay I'm looking at the lap logs here and it looks like hmm check the fuse I'm like nah what are you talking about go back there I'm like oh yeah that fuses missing so he's like yeah can you just put a fuse in there please so we didn't have the port injection on you know he's he's also on Team Viewer on the computer so he's live while we're dyno tuning watching the computer and can go in there and like look at the logs and adjust all the parameters and stuff so it's pretty cool it's like we have the ghost of Jake from motive with us 99 horsepower 641 toward I gotta go film that uh is he still adding more to is this the final mappers you know no you're still treating you still got a little bit of tweaking to do but this line right here was the last one it's pretty crazy Jake just said he's gonna stop at $6.99 because he doesn't want to get to the 700 the people out your charge have been really cool in a stayed late for us but we're thinking it's getting a little bit late we're gonna do one more cool thing call it a night and finish up tomorrow but all the kings should be worked out some hope and this will be over 700 horsepower pole mysterious how the school is now it seems like it was very soon traction control okay Jackson no no no but Jackson still works again yeah that's sick it's very safe yes nice I need those tires this spool quicker hi it's hard to say yeah the second is don't think so I don't feel I did I get it start to school last time John way higher up we don't have to take the highway but we're going to just so we can get a nice highway pole tested out some of that cast aluminum paint on my master and it came out really nice even put a little bit of clear on it - which I'll make it really easy to clean the whole thing ascends at the aluminum colored I'm not really too worried about what I paint and I just kind of spray over it and it just cleans it up you don't really need to blend it just kind of covers up all the icky looking stuff I just sprayed the manifold with some cast aluminum paint it actually is really nice because if you miss an area you can't really tell since it's already aluminum I hit it with some gloss clear after that you guys might be wondering why did I keep the stock manifold instead of going with like a cool Greddy style one the stock ones are actually better if you're under I think like 500 horsepower they give you a little bit more torque those other ones actually robbed you of power unless you're over that five hundred wheel horsepower mark or somewhere around there so I like to keep things efficient rather than just for low it looks way better now though dumb a little trick that'll save you from getting clogged nozzles if you just hold you can upside down and spray it it'll clear out the nozzle and then you won't have clogged nozzles what and in the same day I'm about to go finish up the tune on the BMW but you guys already saw that yesterday since I decided to kind of combine that footage to make today a more sr20 related video I got my turbo in the mail I'm super excited at a came in time but we do have the issue where the V van flange does not match up now since this is the brand-new Gen 2 GTX 28 the V band is a little bit different than what's on this manifold which is meant for like a 30 series and I couldn't actually find a turbo side flange for a Garrett turbo that would be like this but for a 30 and I tried everywhere possible but over do I have an idea he's gonna stop by and maybe work a little bit of Alberto magic to get it so we can mount this turbo right here since we weren't able to finish the dyno tuning yesterday and I'm actually a day ahead in videos I figured I would combine yesterday's footage with today's footage which is Dino day number two so hopefully we're gonna get the car all figured out Jake promoted was working on the throttle lapping last night so hopefully we will put down some over 700 horsepower numbers and get her on the road would you look who's at the warehouse mr. boost so we're still having issues like we had the other day Jake is having a switch boost solenoids from the turbosmart one oh that's a em1 but we had a turbo smart one even though they look identical he thinks maybe something to do with the voltages on them or something weird why because in the card act up because it keeps over boosting and then kind of like surging so we're switching everything oh we're gonna try that hopefully that figures it out so just picked up the car from Randy how'd it come up beautiful so I told Randy to use a lot of gold I use a lot it looks sick no pump yeah I can't wait just eating the Sun it's definitely gonna be different to see the whole band the inside it's just so nice not having anymore like that green crap just kind of like shining its way through and especially the fire he looks like brand-new again with the wire wheel yeah thanks thanks man I try I'm excited to get this thing home and start putting everything together oh yeah alright so we're picking up everything from the machine shop Randy so getting on we got the head done so we had the rebound and that was new guides and taking exhaust we also of course you can't see yeah we had to cut the valves and cut the seats as a three angle valve job now and then it was hot tank and stuff like that and resurfaced as well so heads up good here you want to tilt it okay yeah it's kind of crazy that we didn't research who's the head or the block last time yeah depends I mean sometimes you don't need it depending on like you can get away with it yeah depending how to how straight it is do they have to add any material no usually it's all just cutting away not unsure it's squared evenly and straight out it's cool you can see the guys in there with the light that's cool what could possibly be better than getting to bring my car home and my engine home I have two things eating Chinese food with big boost and a turbo that mounts to my manifold Alberto what did you have to do well I have to take sacrifice ooh sacrificial turbo so we actually had two housings for my 3584 that I was gonna be using on the 2j and for whatever reason I could not find the flange that we needed that would match this manifold because no one needs it they only need the manifold side so we ended up and well then into this turbo so gtx 35 flanges on a gtx 25 or 28 housing yes in theory he could have just changed the one on the manifold but down the road i would like to use this manifold on a vvl head that's why i got the one with the oval holes and everything and i'll probably run a bigger turbo on that but I'm very very impressed like it came out phenomenally well show him after so we don't have to get our hands all dirty while reading our Chinese food but even like tapered it nice inside and everything and I'm stoked dude that looks so good you killed it so I don't know if I mentioned this or not but they didn't have any 2867 s in stock I was in between the 20s 67 in the 28 60 I wound up going with the 20s 60 the only disadvantage is because it's a little bit smaller the turbo will pretty much be maxed out at the power level that I'm running but I really want to try one of the gen 228 sand I think this one will spool very quick my video like I said GT 28 something I don't know water oh it's just a 35 R that's all now you how about rumor that nobody has yeah that's true it's a custom turbo it's a big boost turbo I'll burn up me it like a super detailed video on kind of how he was able to cut the flanges off how he went about welding it mocking everything up and all the fabrication good eNOS so if you guys want to see that that will probably be on his channel I would say about them this is uploaded would you say so well you had an extra day I'm running a day behind so alright so the 240 is finally home and we get to start tackling the bay so what is first what are we gonna do first with the bay I think what I'm gonna do first is paint little things here and there I want to paint these I don't know what you'd call them crossmembers maybe I want to paint these like a fresh coat of black I also have a few pieces for the inside of the bay that I want to paint black and they're probably just gonna start putting the fuse boxes mounted maybe mount up the master cylinders and kind of get just the basics in place before I start doing the crazy stuff dang look at this gold the camera's not really do it justice but it is gnarly what are you doing are you putting this chassis thing make it look nicer it's a flat black but it look way cleaner not for long so how about food we shine in a little bit I'm using some trim and bumper paint to paint these little cows and if you can tell the difference old new and it's got like a nice plastic om looking finish it doesn't look like cheap spray paint so kind of dry almost like a little bit plasticky looking at night looking pretty good thanks like I told you guys MPC Motorsports sent me some of their 100 proof hardware this is actually their engine bay kit so it comes a nice little label baggies and we get to replace all the old crusty hardware with nice new stuff as an example on this freshly painted a wrinkled black wiper motor cover instead of using this stock ugly stuff that would look like that we get that fire look at that looks so much better it sounds dumb but I feel like this hardware is gonna make such a big difference car is gonna have to be so much faster amongst many things I plan to clean up in terms of wiring I'm gonna use some of this covering I don't know what it's called but it looks really nice I'm gonna use some of this covering to go over the wires and make them look a little bit nicer instead of having all these random looking wires it's dangling around the trim paint I used to touch these up actually was gray and not black which I didn't realize but uh adds a nice little fresh look just trying to you know make things look nice there we go I love wrinkled black because it's almost impossible to mess up especially in the cold weather when paint doesn't like to cooperate just spray a little bit I hit it with a heat gun and I am a subscriber actually sent me a really cool care package of a bunch of wiring stuff that I've been meaning to use including what I'm actually telling with right now is a sweet Junction block so instead of having all those wires that I used to have running to the battery I can just have one wire heat shrink I'm gonna try a lot of cool connectors some really fancy relays I've really gotten to play with this stuff too much this is also a ground junction block by the way but it looks really nice what I want to do which I think will be the simplest is actually mount this Junction block right down here right on the like fuse panel brackets that I can have some wires routed through this hole and you won't really even be able to see him since he'll be coming out back I think that'll be like the cleanest way and it'll really look nice I'm really happy with how that came out it doesn't look like it now but that's gonna clean up things so much I saw a lot of comments from people when they heard that I was trying to clean up the bay that I should move the fuse boxes to the inside of the car and I should do a relocation in the battery just to kind of explain my thought process on that I really don't want to move the fuse boxes although it would clean up the bay a ton aesthetically that adds a lot of time because to do it properly you got to sit there and solder each wire and frankly chew that adds another point at which God forbid I mess something up or if a connections not good then something could go wrong on the car and right now knock on wood the car is running so I don't want to go in screw anything up maybe down the road I can do that that's a very like fun little project thing to do if there's absolutely nothing else to do my car but I don't want to over complicate things right now like I said I'm just trying to like clean up wiring a little bit I also think I want to leave the battery there I don't think that there's any reason for me to move it to the inside of car it's kind of annoying in Nicole's car I kind of like it to mind being there and easy to access while you're working on the car in case you need power for anything or if you just want to quickly look at the battery yes I could do like a quick switch disconnect thing too I'm sure that I would like it if it were in the trunk but the desire to put it in the trunk isn't that large I kind of like having it there call me crazy with drift cars there's kind of like that weird balance of wanting everything like show-worthy and like looking super nice then also functional I want to kind of keep everything functional but tidy if that makes sense I'm not trying to do a full crazy Jimmy oak shave Bay like if you look I mean I haven't really done too much yet but I painted things here and there I kind of hid the brake lines underneath that little edge eventually I want to do extend this lines but again I'm not trying to over complicate things right now I'm just trying to clean up things as I go just trying to clean stuff as I go and you know make things nice as I can sorry guys today's upload was a little bit late we actually wound up getting pretty involved in the engine assembly and everything which you'll see in tomorrow's video but I thought at the end of the video I would kind of go over all stuff that was done to the engine in the machine shop since I didn't really go into too much detail I literally just have the invoice right here so I'll just read it to you clean the block clearance the rods polish the crank deck the block Bornholm the block repair the deck recondition ER xvi reconditioned the 16 valve so it's like cutting them installing the new valve guides valve height adjustment new valve stem seals and sales tax it's safe to say that it is going to be very very legit and I'm hoping that it will last very long and make good compression and be a lot of fun get start for tomorrow's video because we're gonna get a lot of stuff done and I'm excited to walk you guys through the process with us so thank you so much and we will I have no idea as you say but I'll see you tomorrow when you say love me when you say\n"
