The Building Experience: A Social and Exciting Adventure with Lego Saturn 5

As we began our building journey, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. LEGO Ideas Saturn 5 set actually it's just coming out Lego is able to send a set to us early it has a tiny limb it has a tiny you can put the Lem inside the it's the best it's part of the Lego idea Series so this is uh people submitting their own designs people vote on them and then through an approval process this the 17th one they've approved and and then uh interestingly enough the people who work on this one of the actual Lego designers is a friend of ours KL Miriam really who previously was a part of the Bay Area LEGO Group he moved over to work on some Minecraft sets and now he's designing official NASA Lego it is beautiful the moment this got announced my Twitter feed was nothing but people going hey you should know about this I the moment this got announced was people with me saying hey where can I buy this and when exactly oh my God 2,000 pieces it ends up being I think like a meter tall wow so is this a normal Lego build we're going to do the first part and then put the rest of it behind the pay wall so people can't watch it no we're going to going to build the whole thing today yes we're going to get all the boxes are going to come out that's why we have three people here no oh look at the manual wow the manual is look cool that's beautiful they've even done like aging and weathering like it's an old piece of NASA ephemera that's super cool that is really awesome but as aded to the first step is of course the Nolan so let's get to Nolan okay okay Adam uh I think first step is to turn these bags of plastic into nice neatly stacked no you got 1 through six I've got 7 through 12 those are all the bags in this set and let's not mix them even though they're going to be light colored and light shaped the instructions will have us build in order of bags uh it's not a competition no it's not a competition I will tell you that when I come to similar Parts like the same part in bag six as 12 I'm going to put them together so we know where to look that is fair all right well let's begin so excited oh this is my favorite part I'm already noticed something interesting is that you know the finish on this set is going to be mostly white and black and yet you see a lot of tan and red and and multicolored pieces um which to me says that these are going to be the pieces that go on the inside the structural support yeah you might be right I know it's not a competition but I really am working hard to do it faster that fck hard noling guys thanks for all that incredible he noing my fingers to the bone is what I do here oh I don't know how you ended up finishing so much faster than me and end up being so much nearer and you're still perfecting I am I can't stop I makes me it pleases me just to sit here and go through if you had it your way you would just incase it's a resin no no no no I'm looking forward to what this means in potentia but staring at the grid of Parts just God it really thr there there's something appealing about doing a Lego exhibition that's just all the pieces nled out in case in resin oh my God that has to be done if someone out there wants to do this I will come and null a set just for that I mean that would be amazing it's it's the Lego equivalent of building the sand the sand painting right right the Buddhist mandala is right except for we in case in res in fact I can make a massive amazing mandala with this with all the circular pieces excellent we also have to give a shout out to these tiny micro figs not just mini figs the smallest things I have ever seen and then is that an American flag it is totally a tiny American flag that is too cool I know I know and we've got the United States yeah so uh to expedite the build process we're going to take the instruction manual and W wo two into three parts dude that was amazing I'm starting with which I totally know what is whoops all right and I think we should just get to it it's been a while since I built Lego guys I don't think will that you and I have ever built Legos together oh no you mean Lego sorry you know I know I get the crap for it every single time and I just I have so much trouble carrying oh oh yeah so now we get to the silence this is like after the waiter waitress brings the food and everyone's just quiet and eating because the food's really good that's what the stage we're at with Lego oh this is so good look it just it snaps onto the side amazing there's so much delicate intense Engineering in this so you know what I need what do you need uh I oh never mind found them you remind me of one of my favorite sance joke where bark hides something important Lisa and she's like where's my thing he like to find it you'll have to solve this of Clues each more B it pretty good do you guys preg grab your pieces for a segment like if there's a bunch of pieces doing like a four a four stop and you know they're all the same yeah if I'm not using both hands to grab or assemble at once if a hand is Idle it is not being put to good use wow then Max the Lego caught it good save thank you nobody saw it's cool nobody saw I once was walking through a parking lot with one of my best friends and I decided to jump up and swing off this pipe in the ceiling that always makes you look cool was super dustier than I thought it would be so I swung and got almost horizontal and then my hands slipped off and so I literally did like a back flop on the parking lot ground and my friend my friend was so amazing he was like oh my god get in the car before anyone sees you he knew that shame would hurt more than the injury well you know you discover a lot about your friends in those situations when you find out whether they laugh or ask oh my God are you all right first um so I had a moment where I completely almost died and did something hilarious there was a when I was in knoxall when I lived in Knoxville there was by the by the Civic Auditorium where all the bands came to play mhm there was a incredibly long like 75 foot stairway with a single metal railing that had no brakes that went all the way down the stairway like 80 steps probably and I liked to slide down that for Fairly obvious reasons mainly it was awesome and you could go really really fast and this was in the '90s so people wore khaki shorts a lot so I was wearing a pair of khaki shorts and I took a slide down this outdoor railing from the parking lot to the Municipal Auditorium and I got going really fast and I wiped out at the bottom but not not bad and then I got up and as I was walking away my friends were laughing at me I couldn't figure out why and it wasn't that I had wiped out it was that sliding down the railing left a black stripe right down right right diagonally across my ass wow wait a second do we have our first first question first mistake how far back do you have to go oh no no no not a qu not a mistake I'm just it's not sometimes the three quarter View they choose does not tell you whe whether exactly how something can situate it's why I think they have the digital designs now what do you mean the digital designs like you download an app and for some of their Technic models you can actually load up the entire design with exploded 3D views holy cow really for every step oh man I had seen that that's awesome do you guys make grabby fingers when you're looking for the piece something's not right here wow this engineering is kind of mind BL I can already tell the things are going to be connected together it's happening very very impressive I'm going to put this off this side here dude I know H I just got to a place where I could have been fooled if I just followed instructions but I noticed the 4X so I'm building four things at once yeah anything smart about that oh what did he do oh no what happened Norm oh my goodness how much how much have you lost no I think I'm I think I'm good oh God Norm Norm you all right you need to take five oh we got this yeah we totally got this we got this where did the other one go did it roll off oh yeah baring any unforeseen disaster don't do it Jesus Norm have you not learned wow hold holy cow my hat is off to the engineering of this kit is it feel super tight and uh stable yeah it does uh wait yeah cuz something this long and this this narrow the fear is that it just breaks apart too easily check this out no oh it doesn't quite fit hold on what have I done wrong you've done something wrong clearly is there another I think I need one more I think I need need a little more height maybe it just rests seems like it should sit though you guys are almost done there go wow that second stage holy smokes oh my God this is too cool yeah yeah oh that's solid yeah no I know it's remarkably solid wow awesome oh okay this is the last page of your instructions there here why don't you put that there I'm not going to lay that I'm not going to put that here let's do that and we'll do that and I can do some stuff too I'm done what really yeah oh my God totally amazing holy smokes hey Norm look at wait watch this it's a magic trick wow and then boom boom and I bet if you pull this off which I'm not going to do right now I bet you can dock next stage you intuited it I did I could see I've been building Legos without looking at the directions longer than you guys have been long Lego I'm asking for a friend okay so 124 and then 125 is right there those are those we have to do 124 first oh did you do okay yep yeah so the next three sets are lined up let me grab Norm's over here Lolly gagging and your fins uh the fins are there's no assembly for the fins ah lost pie is there a oh there is a central yeah this hole facing up and then facing to the side and then twisting them into position is kind of an amazing bit of Genius it's pretty good yeah um it happened up here too it's The Final Countdown we got to assemble it okay so I think the final you put a fin on you put a fin on you get a Fin a fin you get fin you get two fins this I very precarious putting four people three okay what's next 136 it could be oh wait we got a fast hold on now oh I think this is it insert the upper stage into the lower stage okay let's oh wow so it just uh it should line up um the pipes will line up in a specific way probably yeah with the color yep let's see oh there we go it sits how does it feel it feels that was a nice positive fun go me I I have pre prsd pre pre PTSD pre- TSD PP ppsd post TSD I feel like there are places here we could there some the is a little bit off and some of these could probably pop out and go back in in the opposite direction cuz I I can I take the I want to see if I can dock the limb to the oh I don't know if I can take it off without making a bad there we go there you go okay so here's here's our oh wow so you can display it with half with you can display it with only half of this and SE along the side oh cutaway built in oh I don't think you can dock all wow um okay here we go are you done it's part of The LEGO Ideas series which sometimes they only make a limited number it's going to be mid June I think is the release early June uh we'll have links below if you want to pick one up but
