Honor 20 Lite Review!

The Honor 20 Light Review: A Mid-Range Powerhouse with Some Limitations

When it comes to mid-range smartphones, there are many options available in the market. However, the Honor 20 Light is one of the most promising devices that have caught our attention recently. In this review, we will delve into the features and performance of the Honor 20 Light to see if it lives up to its promise.

The Design and Display

One of the first things you notice about the Honor 20 Light is its design. The phone has a similar design to its predecessor, the Honor Taillight, with a slightly smaller notch at the top of the screen. The display itself is a 6.26-inch IPS LCD panel that offers good color accuracy and a decent screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. However, when it comes to edge detection, the camera does not quite live up to expectations.

The Portrait Mode

One of the standout features of the Honor 20 Light is its portrait mode. The phone offers various portrait lighting effects that can be used to enhance the bokeh effect in photos. This feature is a great addition to the phone's camera capabilities and makes it stand out from other mid-range smartphones in this segment.

The Video Department

When it comes to video recording, the Honor 20 Light does not quite live up to expectations. The phone only offers 1080p video recording at 30fps, which is not as smooth as some of its competitors. Additionally, there is no stabilization feature available on the phone, which can be a drawback for those who plan to record videos frequently.

The Performance

Under the hood, the Honor 20 Light is powered by the Kirin 710 processor, which is a decent performer but not quite up to the standards set by some of its competitors. The processor is comparable to the Snapdragon 616, but we have seen better processors from Qualcomm in recent months. While the phone can handle most day-to-day tasks with ease, it may struggle with gaming and heavy multitasking.

The Gaming Performance

When it comes to gaming, the Honor 20 Light does not quite live up to expectations. The Kirin 710 processor struggles to handle demanding games, and even at medium settings, some games do not run smoothly. Heavy games like PUBG and Fortnite are playable but not without some lag and stuttering.

The Storage

One of the standout features of the Honor 20 Light is its storage capacity. The phone comes with a generous 128GB of internal storage, which should be more than enough for most users. However, the lack of expandable storage options via an SD card slot may be a drawback for some users who want to add more storage to their device.

The Software

When it comes to software, the Honor 20 Light runs on Android 10 with the custom skin EMUI 9.0 and Huawei's UI. While the interface is smooth and easy to navigate, there are some unnecessary apps that come pre-installed, which can be a drawback for those who prefer a cleaner interface.

The Battery

One of the highlights of the Honor 20 Light is its battery life. The phone comes with a 3400mAh battery, which may not seem like a lot at first glance. However, thanks to EMUI's optimization, the phone can easily last a full day with heavy usage.

The Charging Speed

When it comes to charging speed, the Honor 20 Light falls short. The phone comes with a 10W charger out of the box, which takes around an hour and 56 minutes to fully charge the battery. While this is not the fastest charging speed available in the market, it is still sufficient for most users.

The Fingerprint Sensor

One of the standout features of the Honor 20 Light is its fingerprint sensor, which is fast and accurate. The sensor works well even with wet or greasy hands, making it a great addition to the phone's biometric capabilities.

The Wi-Fi Connectivity

When it comes to Wi-Fi connectivity, the Honor 20 Light does not quite live up to expectations. The phone only supports Wi-Fi 5, which means it may struggle to connect to fast networks. This may be a drawback for those who plan to use their phone in areas with high-speed internet.

The Audio Quality

Finally, when it comes to audio quality, the Honor 20 Light does not quite live up to expectations. The phone's speakers are loud but not particularly detailed or balanced. However, the call quality is good, making it a great option for those who want a reliable smartphone for calls and messaging.

In conclusion, the Honor 20 Light is a mid-range smartphone that offers some great features and performance at an affordable price. While it may not live up to expectations in certain areas, such as edge detection and gaming performance, it still has plenty to offer. If you're looking for a reliable smartphone with good battery life and a fast fingerprint sensor, the Honor 20 Light is definitely worth considering.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhen honor announce the order 20 series smartphones in London the honor 20 and honor 20 Pro have been the talk of the town for days there Quadra cameras flagship grade processors and punch hole displays were enough to impress many the cheaper honor 20 light however did not receive much attention men so was this an underdog ignored by many or was it not just worth the hype let's find out like with the previous honor smartphones the 20 light features a gradient color back the one I have right now is the phantom red color which looks pleasing one thing you need to know is the back is made of plastic and north glass which is the reason it feels light on the hands other than that I'm pretty happy with its form factor it rightly fits on my hand and has an even weight distribution even the buttons are tactile and placed at a reachable position so I have nothing much to complain on the design front talking about the display the phone retains a six point two one inch IPS panel which comes with narrow bezels with a u-shaped tiny notch on the top even the chin is thin here thinner than most of the competitors out there I would add while placing it alongside the galaxy a 50 you can easily notice the difference however gone is the notification LED which is close to extinction on smartphone these days continuing with the display the screen here comes with Full HD resolution on board so while viewing the contents the screen looks sharp as expected the colors also look quite pleasant here it's not quite on the level of the OLED panels but still looks noteworthy among the mid rangers and a side-by-side with the 850 I prefer the display on the 850 let's head on to the cameras now and like with every other mid-range smartphone in the market this one too has a triple camera setup at the back there's a 24 megapixel primary lens which comes alongside an 8 megapixel ultra wide-angle shooter and a 2 megapixel depth sensor and all of these cameras are said to be a high-powered talking about the photos from the 24 megapixel camera I am fairly satisfied with the shots it captures the images packed quite a lot of details so they look sufficiently sharp but sometimes the images are overexposed I also noticed the phone over processing the images due to which colors were unnatural at times however while comparing it with the a 50 I liked the shots from the honor 20 light because of the sharpness the colors were slightly better from the a 50 though switching to the wide-angle you can extend the field of view up to 120 degrees the images as you can see here look decent but it lacks details and while comparing it with a galaxy 50 I noticed a larger field of view and better details in the shots from the e 50 but what I really liked about the honor 20 light was that the colors in the images didn't shift while switching into the wide-angle mode from normal mode which happens extensively on the 850 the 3rd 2 megapixel lens gathers the depth information while taking portrait images and portrait images look ok at best there is s detection issue on most of the portrait images and the blurring does not look natural maybe honor will fix that in its software update but until that happens you will have to live with this night mode feature is also getting quite popular these days and to address that honor has included a night mode feature in this device too with this feature it decreases the shutter speed up to 4 seconds and takes a long exposure shot and while capturing low-light images using this feature the subject brightens up quite a bit and there seem to have a little more detail in it so to me it has come in quite handy while taking snaps and low-light scenarios apart from that you get tons of features like slow more time-lapse and AR if you do some taking in talking about the selfies the 32 megapixels does not disappoint it captures amazing selfies with great facial details but the phone tends to overdo with the skin which looks quite unnatural at times but most of the time still look fairly good although the portrait images are dude for processing they do look good enough but if you care about the edge detection it's still not perfect in that respect but usable most of the times the portrait mode is also playful here as you can get various portrait lighting effects talking about the videos you don't get 40 video recording in here and neither do you get any kind of stabilization and also the colors and videos are just about okay so I would say that in the video Department the cameras are just average now on to the performance you get the cue in 710 in here which we have seen on so many honor and Huawei smartphones in a span of six months now Kurian 710 is a decent processor comparable with a snapdragon 616 but over the course of six months we have seen better associates from Qualcomm you get snapdragon 675 on the redmi note 7 pro and real meat-free pro add more or less similar pricing I am not trying to bash on or akhirin 7/10 here but I guess it's reasonable to demand an upgrade while going from its predecessor the honor taillight don't get me wrong the quirian 710 is not a bad processor it's actually a decent performer and can handle most people's day-to-day tasks pretty easily multitasking is also fairly good with 4gb of RAM on board but it's the gaming part that Karen 7/10 lacks behind in the competition on my tests heavy games did not run quite smoothly on highest of the settings pop G is playable at medium settings by default which wasn't smooth the way I expected so if you are into gaming you should opt for the Snapdragon 675 powered phones and who can forget the poco for an f1 but Snapdragon 845 which is still available you can get that too talking about the storage you get 128 GB on this one which should suffice the needs of many and this is where the honor 20 light stands out because other phones in similar price range offer only 64 GB plus if you wish to expand it further you can even use the SD card slot now the software the phone runs on Android 95 with the custom skin emui nine point zero point one on top and with Bobby's UI you do get a of bloatware and a number of redundant apps nonetheless you can uninstall majority of them but apart from that the UI is pretty much likeable it's well optimized and navigating through the UI is also pretty smooth on top of that most of the settings are customizable so you can easily tune it into your liking but what's concerning here is the software update war we have been enlisted in the US government's entity list and owner being the sub brand of war we we don't have any other option than to wait and see what happens next now let's talk about the battery the phone comes with a 3400 mAh battery which sounds quite underwhelming however the EMU L optimization is great so I got around 6 hours of screen on time also the screen on time is based on my heavy usage that includes 2 hours of social media 2 hours of watching videos and an hour of gaming the phone comes with a 10 watt charger out of the box which takes exactly one hour and 56 minutes to get it fully charged I even use an 18 watt fast charger to charge the device but there wasn't any improvement in the charging pace so there's that other things like the fingerprint sensor like in all honor phones is fast and accurate it works nine out of ten times except for times when you have wet or greasy hands face unlock is fast too and is done via the front camera about the Wi-Fi though you don't get Wi-Fi easy in here so you won't be able to connect to five gigahertz network and if I remember correctly it was not there in the honor index as well other things like audio quality is fairly loud and call quality is good too so I think the honor 20 light is a fairly good mid-range phone for the price being s there is nothing that bugs me about this phone everything is fine except for the fact that they could have gone with a newer and faster processor and even the inclusion of a faster charging feature and USBC would have made it more convincing and not to forget you do have plenty of other options like the Galaxy II 50 the galaxy M 40 or the poco phone f1 and if the real meat-free pro and the redmi note 7 flow are available in your region then you have even more options so in the end I will leave it up to you
