Behind-the-Scenes at CES: A Look at Jim's Brilliant Production Setup
Hey everyone welcome to a behind the scenes at CES in a glamorous hotel room I'm joined by Jim Vincent Jim was with me at the uh Computer History Museum tour we did previously in Mountain View California and I wanted to show off Jim's brilliant setup for production while we're at CES.
Jim, do you have a name for this setup that you have? Poor Man's laptop, folks, there you have it. So let's point out everything we got. A $5 D keyboard, really light these things are they're actually for five bucks not bad yeah with some chicklet switches or something chicklet switches yeah it's right real rattly but so we got that. We have an actual computer not a laptop, yes that's the one, the Mini PC that is the Zotac I reviewed one of those ages ago uh Ian something in 960 I think something like that 96m right so one of those it's 4K ready which really doesn't mean anything oh yeah you can run 4K at 30 Hertz on a television yeah with your Masters of Orion game too that's right which I think is made for 640 by 480 but yeah uh the backstory too by the way that's oh I apologize, at the back two wireless antennas to connect to our 1 megabit per second Hotel internet power. We have the keyboard and the mouse what is our Mouse it is an old Logitech g9x always a good sign folks when you have to check the name of the mouse to see what it is and then this is legitimately cool so this is a USB uh detachable us USB 1080p Asus MB 168 monitor which is goes through um the same type of uh USB 3 you'd see on a hard drive yeah so us USB 3 straight to the box cuz there's no monitor built into this Zotac unit and this is nice and light so it's portable right and uh and does it come with a stand Jim it does but I never figured out how to make it work. It comes with this lovely actually synthetic leather case which is good to protect it while flying but but instead you've propped it up against your backpack that's right which has metal reinforcement in it in case someone tries to knife it and Rob your camera yeah this is one for yeah traveling in questionable countries like the United States, he's Canadian by the way welcome to American JY.
Let's walk through the rest of the setup here you have a $40 $60 $40 old version one of the Motorola Android watch. And that's that's inductive charging which if uh you don't know what inductive charging is probably most people do it's just metal to metal contact rather than uh cable so you have that for some reason uh then what is this uh this is an Nvidia tablet which I'm using to do computer books here The Shield or something or the shield K1 yeah which is actually a pretty good little tablet. And behind me there's the uh Canadian Tire uh power strip which I guess we'll get be roll up separately that uh that we plug into the hotel wall now what's it a Noma brand Noma yes very well respected yeah so um that's um that's Jim setup I suppose that's that's what we got for CES. We are we're that professional production company I was going to say it's the gigabit of of power Power Bars but gig giggle bit giggle bit giggle bit you'll learn more about giggle bit at some point in the future I'm sure maybe behind the scenes at Taiwan that's what we got so that's Jim's production setup he mostly reads news and updates Visual Studio apparently un fast internet it's it's applying and acquiring. I'd let you tether but I don't want to waste the data on visual studio right now uh yeah we'll just leave it around this so genuinely one thing that that is actually kind of cool about this display I work off of a laptop Keegan Works video production off of a larger 980m laptop but my big bottleneck on mine is screen space so you could actually hook this up and use it as a second display on a notebook that's how Asus markets it has a second display for for for Notebook for notebooks or laptops yeah it makes sense yeah so that'd be a kind of sweet setup um but uh this is how we're using it here thank you for watching I guess yeah you can find coverage on the channel I don't know when this video will go up if it's after during CES but there will be coverage on the channel and on Gamers nexus net subscribe for more convention coverage I'll see you all next time
