The Last Day of the Current Gen Generation: A Look at the PS3 and Xbox 360 as We Prepare to Move On to the Next Generation
As we stand on the threshold of a new era in gaming, it's hard not to feel a sense of nostalgia for the current generation of consoles. For many gamers, this means saying goodbye to the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Xbox 360, which have served us well over the years. But before we bid farewell to these beloved machines, let's take a look at what's in store for their successors: the PS4 and its Xbox One counterpart.
One thing that's clear is that the PS4 will be arriving on Friday, the 15th, and we're excited to see what this new console has to offer. But before we dive into the details of the PS4 itself, let's take a look at some of the accessories that will be available at launch.
One accessory that's sure to generate excitement among gamers is the DualShock 4 controller. This sleek and stylish controller comes in two colors: red and blue. Whether you're a fan of bright and bold or more subdued and understated, there's sure to be a color option out there for you. But what really sets the DualShock 4 apart from its predecessors is the addition of wireless charging capabilities. No longer will you have to worry about running out of battery in the middle of your gaming session – simply plug in two controllers at once and let them charge while you play.
Another accessory that's worth mentioning is the vertical stand. As we all know, consoles are often unstable and prone to tipping over, which can be a real hassle for gamers who like to get cozy with their machines. The PS4 has apparently learned from this mistake and will come with a built-in vertical stand that makes it easy to prop up your console and enjoy your games in comfort. And at just $16, this accessory is an affordable way to improve your gaming experience.
Of course, no discussion of the PS4 would be complete without mentioning the PlayStation Eye camera. This peripheral has been around for a while now, but it's still an important part of the gaming experience on the PS3 and will likely continue to play a role in the PS4's feature set as well. But at $50, this accessory may not be within everyone's budget – and we're not sure if it's even necessary for most gamers.
Finally, there's the Turtle Beach headsets. These are headphones that might be compatible with your existing PS3 headset, although we can't say for sure whether they'll work without some fiddling around. But even if they don't, $50 is a price point that many gamers can afford to splurge on – and it's always worth having a backup pair of headphones on hand just in case.
Now that we've taken a look at the accessories that will be available for the PS4, let's talk about some of the games that'll be launching alongside this new console. One game that caught our eye was Call of Duty: Ghosts, which arrived on our doorstep yesterday or two days ago (we're not exactly sure when, but we did manage to snag a copy!). It's always a bit disheartening to see how quickly some popular franchises can become tired and formulaic, but at the same time, it's hard to deny that Call of Duty has been a mainstay of gaming for years – and fans of the series are sure to find plenty to love about this latest installment.
And speaking of which, we're not done yet. As we approach the release of the PS4 and Xbox One, there's another console on our minds: the next-generation Xbox One. While we don't know an exact release date just yet, rumors suggest that it might be launching sometime within two weeks or a week from now – although we won't be getting any official confirmation until Microsoft decides to make a formal announcement.
As we wait for more information about these upcoming consoles and their accompanying games, there's one thing that's certain: the world of gaming is on the cusp of change. We're excited to see what the future holds for PlayStation, Xbox, and all the other major players in this industry – and we can't wait to dive in and start exploring the possibilities that these new consoles have to offer.
