My favorite download manager - How to Install JDownloader2 _ Ubuntu 16.04 Tips

**A Really Cool Piece of Software: JDownloader**

I want to share with you a really cool piece of software that I recently discovered, which is called JDownloader. It's a download manager that can download links both online and offline, making it a very useful tool for anyone who needs to download files from various sources.

To get started with JDownloader, we first need to add the necessary links. We'll start by adding an online link. Once the link is added, the software will begin downloading the content. However, if there isn't a custom thumbnail available, we can simply click "OK" to proceed without it. This allows us to download the video from the raw YouTube stream into an MP4 file that our average computer can use.

In order for JDownloader to work its magic, it needs access to the ffmpeg Codex. Fortunately, we've already installed a similar codec with our Ubuntu installation. The video isn't actually available yet because Elgato totally screwed up my file, but we can install it here if needed. That's going to download and install it for us.

JDownloader is an open-source software that's based on Java, which makes it pretty freaking cool. It even tells you how quickly you're downloading, with speeds ranging from 1.65 megabytes per second. The version of JDownloader I'm using is in beta, so it may check for updates often. Don't worry, it's not a big deal.

The next step is to start all the downloads. Since JDownloader detected FFMPEG was already installed, it will begin downloading the video and audio separately. The audio downloads quickest because it's the smallest file, but it will download the video first and then convert it into an MP4 file that I can play in my media player of choice.

In this case, my media player of choice is Rhythm box, which comes pre-installed with Ubuntu. However, we don't have VC (Video Codec) enabled on our system, so we'll need to install VLC Player instead. Don't worry, I've got you covered - I'll make a separate video about my favorite media players for Ubuntu.

So, if you want to try out JDownloader, you can download it from the official repository. It's available in the Ubuntu Software Center, but it might take a little while to appear. Once it does, you can click "Install" and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your downloads.

For those who prefer a more customized experience, there are several plugins available for JDownloader that allow you to customize how many download slots you have, bandwidth limits, and reconnect attempts. You can even open up the download directory in your preferred file manager using the built-in "Open Download Directory" feature.

In this example, I decided to use JDownloader as my primary download manager because of its ease of use and customization options. The software is very intuitive and allows you to manage multiple downloads with ease. Whether you're downloading files from online sources or offline links, JDownloader has got you covered.

**Conclusion**

JDownloader is an excellent piece of software that's perfect for anyone who needs to download files frequently. Its ability to handle both online and offline links makes it a versatile tool that can be used by people of all ages. With its customization options and built-in Java framework, JDownloader is a must-have software for any Ubuntu user.

In the next video, I'll be sharing my favorite media players for Ubuntu, which includes VLC Player. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone my name is Adam Reus Fox and in this video I'm trying to work on something else but I'm going to show you my favorite Download Manager on across all platforms it's available for Windows Linux Mac other things via java. jar file and you even have access to the source code because it's an open source product uh project unfortunately that means there are ads everywhere especially since I'm in Firefox without ad block at the moment since this is a fresh installation now to download it for Windows of course you just download the installer for Linux you have x86 and x64 installers I'm going to go to the 641 it has a mega.nz download location let it load up here in mega we're going to download through the browser because I don't feel like dealing with their Mega sync crap it's not in the ubu software Center unfortunately so we will need our handy dandy terminal for this video so wait for it to download here takes just a second Megas Mega me mega is a great upload website kim.com I think is finally coming under legal trouble regarding mega upload because the lovely media associations of the world still think that mega upload is alive and a threat because they are morons and so I don't know how you know how sustainable Mega itself may be but it is a great platform while it's here way way better than the old one I I love it and at some point I'll show you it see it's got a free download for Linux and Firefox I'll show you how to set that up here in Ubuntu as well just for kicks because why not why not all right we are approaching the end of our download here we are going to need our handy dandy terminal I'm going to go ahead and CD to downloads that's how you get to your downloads directory and minimize terminal save file all right dear that lists all the files and downloads here you see jd2 setup x64 CH mod plus X oh plus X jd2 and then I can hit Tab and it will assuming there's only one file that starts with jd2 it will automatically fill that in for me some command line tricks for you chod just makes you plus X makes you the owner of that file enter pseudo do slash and that's the slash next to your shift everyone gets the backwards and forwards mixed up so it's the one next the shift with a question mark on it and then jd2 hit tab enter type in password and it's going to unpack it and install it installers do exist in Linux despite what people want to say oh there's no axes there's no installers what do you call this it's a setup window or or set setup hello setup installer just like Windows and even just I'm pretty sure this runs exactly like the windows installer default installation directory is fine I don't want a desktop icon again just like the windows installer it's pretty cool actually really like Linux installers like sh installers make me feel a little bit at home as a long-term Windows user of course let me have it downloaded here it is a web installer I I do believe they have offline installers but the web installer is going to be the most up to- date and the most easiest one to download it just requires you to have internet access but since you're downloading a download m manager you should probably have internet access all right here they want you to donate you can if you want I'm not right now cuz I'm doing a tutorial I always recommend if you use open source software on a regular basis ever donate to them you will always at at some point in your life at some point in your life while you're using that software you will have $1 $5 $10 like five $1 to5 at minimum you you you have it you can afford to donate if you use open source software give them a little bit helps goes a long way and then you can automatically run it so we'll go ahead and run it I'll show you what it looks like here um should look pretty much exactly the same as it does on my Windows installation which will make me happy yes it does okay so this is pretty cool this has the download window so this doesn't I'm I'm pretty sure you can set it up to manage your downloads from like Firefox and stuff I do not I have this actually managed downloads externally so by default it it like your Firefox downloads and stuff still all downloading Firefox or chromium or whatever this has a link Grabber and so if I go over here to something else I was working on and just download this random little video file here it's should grab that link from my clipboard you can see the icons not like in my panel there yep automatically picked up the video link and it detects what files are available for that video here we have I got to make this window a little bit bigger here it detects the highest quality YouTube video and then you can choose lower quality one here so 1080p h264 video from YouTube the 256 kilobit m4a audio file and the thumbnail for it and if you and it can download all the way up to 4K 2160p 60 frames per second and convert it to an mp4 you can use with just about anything it is glorious and then you can import media fire links Mega links uh ravit aare you know all those download websites you can import all of those links it will automatically pop up captures for you as they go through so if you do a lot of we's downloading and you have long lists of multiart files this is great to manage them and it works even better if you actually have like paid accounts on those Services because it will automatically save your login details and just do it all for you and you know manage the it it'll automatically detect when the website's like okay you download too much for today it'll put it on pause until it and then try again later when it's available and it it's a really cool piece of software just tell it to download add online and offline links it can't download the thumbnail just cuz there wasn't a custom one so we'll just add do not add offline links and click okay in order to transcode your video from the raw YouTube stream into an mp4 file that your average computer can use it needs the ffmpeg Codex now we did install a similar style codec with our Ubuntu installation which that video isn't actually up yet because Elgato totally screwed up my file um but we can install it here that's going to download it here for you it it does everything for you it even tells you how quickly you're downloading 1.65 megabytes per second not super fast I could download faster and hopefully I'll go even faster and you want to install it now yes it will reload J downloader for you and again this is all open source it's all based on Java hence the J and it's pretty freaking cool yep checking for updates it is uh the version 2 is in beta so it will check for updates often just deal with it again I wish they'd fix that panel icon but that's only a tiny thing that will bug me and then is it in the downloads list yep just go ahead and start all downloads and since it detected FFM Peg was done it will start downloading the video and the audio the audio downloads quickest cuz it's the smallest file but it will download the video here and then automatically convert it into an mp4 file that I can play just in whatever media player is built in here to Ubuntu which I think might be Rhythm box but I don't know if that plays video do we have VC yes no no we don't have VLC all right that sucks let's install VLC uh so if you want media files here no I'll do that in a separate video cuz that that's media players I'll do that in a dedicated video so if you check the playlist Link in the description below the video I'll make right after this one by time you see this video it'll be up or at least in the playlist I have tons of videos that aren't public yet in the playlist but my favorite media players for your bu to at least on initial Impressions and one of those will be VLC player but it it'll just be in the Buu software store or pseudo app get to install VLC all right I don't know why it's downloading so slow other than I have a billion and one things going and its status is finished it did not pop up saying it was converting it like it normally does so let's go ahead and go to our downloads folder so I'm going to I like switching workplaces for everything cuz I'm a dork download it is not here videos oh I think I know what it did it's at SL root downloads instead of SL atom downloads so if you want to change that which you probably will go to settings you you don't want it there that's stupid yeah it's in it needs to be in atom no slome slash adom slash downloads save yeah tell it to download to your download voter and then here you can customize a million and one things that has plugins you can customize how many download and upload slots and bandwidth like if you have this going downloading all the time downloading wees you can customize you know how much upload speed and download speed it uses or I guess only download speed but how much speed it uses how many reconnect attemps all that stuff I'm not going to bother I guess if I double click it'll open it here yeah here we go open up in some program doesn't actually say but we can Pop It Up full screen here doesn't seem like it has any sound to it yeah but just a nice little Anonymous stream scene here I'm going to be using this for a video wallpaper in a minute so I just wanted to show it off maybe that's J downloaders preview I don't know uh if I go to right click can I open it up in the file manager I think yeah open download directory yeah here we go then we can go to downloads cut that out and paste it here although it might not let me since that is a rout directory I may need to have admin nope it worked okay so if we yeah have no clue what this is I guess this is just a native video player huh that's good to know Bunch who has a
