Unboxing and Review: Netgear Madhawk M1 4G Router
As I unboxed my new Netgear Madhawk M1 4G router, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and curiosity about what this device had to offer. The first thing that caught my eye was the sheer size of the router, which seemed to dwarf its compact design. However, as I began to explore its features, I realized that size wasn't necessarily an indicator of performance.
One of the most impressive aspects of the Madhawk M1 is its wireless capabilities. With a simple press of the power button, the Wi-Fi password and network name are displayed on screen, making it easy to set up your devices. The sheer fact that this thing is actually wireless is truly sick, as I could plug an Ethernet cable from this device directly into my PC and have a fully functional router on top of my case. This level of convenience and flexibility is a game-changer for anyone looking to upgrade their home network.
To test the Madhawk M1's capabilities, I downloaded the Net Game Mobile app, created an account, and began the process of setting up my cellular connection. After selecting my EE APN, I confirmed that everything was working as expected, with the router successfully connecting to my cellular network. It was then time to put the Madhawk M1 through its paces and see how it performed in real-world scenarios.
I plugged the device into my PC via Ethernet and began downloading a game on Steam. The results were nothing short of astonishing – peak download speeds reached an incredible 192 megabytes per second, with average speeds consistently above 176 megabytes per second. This level of performance was unprecedented, even on my previous Fuji router, which struggled to match these speeds.
The upload speed, while not quite as impressive at first glance, still managed to exceed expectations. With a peak upload speed of over 140 megabits per second, it's clear that the Madhawk M1 is capable of delivering fast and reliable internet connectivity. The device's portability was also a major advantage, allowing me to place it anywhere in my home and see if it could yield even faster speeds.
To put the Madhawk M1's performance into perspective, I ran a speed test again, this time using the device as my primary connection. The results were staggering – 147 megabits per second download speed, with upload speeds stabilizing at an impressive 70 megabits per second. This level of performance is nothing short of remarkable, especially considering that I was using a standard EE modem and antenna in conjunction with the Madhawk M1.
While the device's abilities are certainly impressive, it's worth noting that I did experience some initial lag when connecting via Wi-Fi. However, once plugged in via Ethernet, this issue seemed to disappear altogether. This highlights the importance of choosing the right connection method for your specific needs – if you're looking for fast and reliable internet connectivity, Ethernet is still the way to go.
One potential area for improvement is the upload speed. While it's not terrible, it's clear that there's room for growth here. I'm eager to see how this device performs when combined with a load balancing router, which would potentially allow me to tap into multiple cellular connections and unlock even faster speeds. This is an exciting prospect, and one that I'll be exploring in future reviews.
As I come to the end of my review, I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed by the Netgear Madhawk M1 4G router. Its impressive performance, combined with its portability and convenience features, make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade their home network. While there may be some areas for improvement, the device's current capabilities are truly exceptional – and I have no doubt that it will continue to blow minds in the world of 4G internet connectivity.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enoh my god this router actually sped things up I've never seen speeds this fast on 4G 192 215 206 are you crazy I've never asked me this before giveaway winner for the RGB HDMI cable from vivify if you have absolutely no idea what we're talking about the giveaways over but we're giving away an RGB HDMI cable right here over on Instagram me and boof I teamed up around 511 people apparently entered and found this app online to pretty much help me draw the winner so without further ado let's hit start and that even gives you a countdown wow how exciting who will win the RGB cable it's Eric 773 Congrats dude and check your DMS my guy cuz we're gonna DM you and we're gonna send you out an RGB HDMI cable congratulations my guy congratulations today's videos pretty much gonna be about net gears nighthawk m1 gigabit gigabit LTE mobile router this thing is crazy it costs quite a lot link in description down below to where you can buy this but massive shout out to the team over at net gear for of course selling this thing over now of course there's no guarantee that you're actually going to get gigabit speeds over your 4G connection that's probably going to depend on countless different factors like where you live what's around giving stuff but you know probably not everyone is gonna be able to achieve gigabit freakin 4G speeds today we're gonna be testing this thing out running a bunch of speed tests of course and just seeing what kind of performance uplift we can see upgrading to something like this for your 4G LTE modem as opposed to using the one that your ISP gave you which let's be honest that thing probably isn't capable of doing gigabit speeds over 4G as for the upload speed that this thing is rated up to it says up to 150 megabit per second on the upload speed as for the current speeds were getting on our 4G LTE connection using the modem that my ISP provided me with my ISP being EE all right so it's ping 68 which is kind of expected around 4G but the download speed is freaking loyal my guy will we hit a hundred okay just breached 101 so at the moment we're getting 40 megabit per second on the upload speed however if you let it run long enough like speedtest.net is kind of an all right way to test probably normal broadband speeds but when you're on 4G at least from my experience you kind of have to let your speeds ramp up and it takes a while for them to get to like their max potential like whenever I upload a YouTube video which is generally like five to maybe ten gigabytes in file size which you know it's pretty big hence why I kind of want fast upload speed so I don't have to spend hours and hours and hours uploading a YouTube video instead nowadays it actually takes me probably between 20 minutes to maybe 40 minutes at most if it's like a gigantic video file so I reached out to Netgear and I'm like yo could you send me your 4G LTE router as I genuinely want to test this thing out it looks so freakin good and I want to see how good the speeds would be upgrading from your stock your default LTE modem that you know your ISP gives you to something like this they do also have an m2 available this is kind of like the cheaper option I think they have a two gigabit LTE modem also available but that one costs considerably more money I'll leave a link in the description down below to both of these but I let up go for the m1 as I have no idea what kind of performance uplift I'm going to see upgrading to this will there be any performance suffered in general are these things worth your money I'll let you guys know so without further ado let's get this thing unboxed we need the Koran bit knife which is actually like all the way over here by the racing sim and let's open it up hmm straight awaits here man and it is pretty nice oh it's so tiny this is a tiny little thing oh now in the sense that they have a screen a battery indicator level so this 4G modem from Netgear will actually show you some pretty useful information especially if you have a data cap on your 4G connection on the screen right there it's actually going to show you how many gigabytes you have left and how many you've used during like you know the last 30 or so days and when your data will reset so you can kind of like you know manage your data a little better later down the line I will most likely make a full dedicated review video all about this thing but today is kind of just like a quick unboxing and I just want to run a couple tests and see whether or not it's kind of worth or not bit or not but let's continue on with this unboxing so they give you an entire battery here that's a removable battery you don't often see removable batteries anymore but before we insert this thing inside there that's where you actually put the SIM card so I'm gonna go grab my SIM pop that in there alright I'm not sure if you can see but I have inserted the little SIM card inside of there next up let's pop the battery in there too and they do give you a cover as well alright so everything is built and ready to go in terms of connectivity though what you get is a Gigabit Ethernet port USB type-c port as well as a standard USB port right there I'm pretty sure you're gonna use the type C port to charge this thing up as it does have a battery and is portable hence why I kind of mentioned the battery indicator earlier and why it has a removable battery in the first place is because this thing is portable you can take it with you and have 4G LTE wherever you go so if you're traveling and you kind of want a reliable and high-speed connection and don't want to rely on constantly using your phone's battery to let's say use your phone's data and share a hotspot constantly take this thing with you instead and it can be your own portable hotspot using its own battery life and not wasting any of the battery life of your phone which I'm sure we can agree is always a good thing so yeah portable 4G LTE router that's very very quick let's turn this thing on I'm not sure if it's charged or not but I'm pressing the power button on the top there boom how long does this thing even take to boot so they did tell me I have to download an app on their phone so I should probably get to doing that woah dude this thing is sick so welcome to the Nighthawk mobile router tap the power button to cycle through the screens and as you can see on the left side of the screen right there it's actually showing a little battery indicator and we're about like 49% battery out same so what I mentioned earlier about what this thing actually says on screen is yet we have like how many days left until your data resets how many devices are currently connected and how many gigabytes you've used of you know whatever your data cap is on your network so a bunch of really useful information and if you want to find out the Wi-Fi password easy-peasy press the power button and the Wi-Fi password is on there as well as the network name so yeah it is called NTG r5g the sheer fact that this thing is actually wireless though it's so sick I could plug an ethernet cable from this guy directly into my PC and just pop the router like on top of my case or something like how freaking good is this right so what I've done is I've downloaded the net game mobile app signed up made an account etc and why don't need to do now is sort out my cellular connection so I need to go on a PN and then press on EE because I am on the EE APN so yes press apply set default alright so I can confirm things are actually working right now it says EE for G+ and we have pretty much a full connection now by the looks of things everything is also working absolutely okay on my PC I've plugged this thing in the Ethernet oh my god this router actually sped things up what for a second I for this router in fact slowed my speeds down I am very wrong I've never seen speeds this fast on 4G ever this is crazy 192 this is nearly hitting 200 215 206 are you crazy I've never asked me why this before what is mental that is absolutely crazy now I am purposely downloading a game on Steam look at this peak was nineteen point eight megabytes per second this thing is getting like 176 204 can we hit 20 megabytes per second twenty point nine are you crazy it just hit 22 megabytes per second wow this actually sped things up a lot sped things up a lot man are you crazy I've never had sneeze like this before I'm gonna run a speed test again bear in mind we're using this new 4G router from Netgear what this blows my mind I'm so happy the peace twenty-nine dude what if we can game on 4G No 127 okay so you know a little bit of an upgrade so with the upload speed don't know what I can do to kind of improve that maybe like pop the router in a different spot but wow the download speed that's crazy I've never seen anything like that before not on Fuji so thank God that this thing is portable because we can kind of put this thing anywhere dude I could slap it by my window and maybe see what kind of speeds we can get if we put the router right there pretty much you know but nearly outside and maybe this will yield like the craziest performance yet this is madness even on speed test is getting like 147 Ned gay you've done a good job on this thing genuinely this is madness do you upload speed please please give me like a new record for upload speed nothing the most of ever Gardens like 80 but this is immediately stabilized at like 70 damn dude I'm very happy now imagine you imagine guys because we're getting good speeds on this little 4G modem from Netgear we're also getting very good speeds like genuinely very good speeds using the standard EE modem right there that you know conveniently does have a very good Fuji antenna that has really really helped the speeds stabilize and just become much much faster in general and stay fast like no matter what but Wow imagine we combine that and that into one connection to 4G connections into one we'd be getting like 200 megabit per second download and like up to 140 upload wow that would be crazy that would be so good but what I need is a load balancing router apparently that's where you need to combine two internet connections so I must see what I can do and maybe we can get one pretty soon and hopefully try to combine two connections into one how thick would that be man but wow that's been my little unboxing little review and test of net gears madhawk m1 router this router actually surprised me how good it is I had no idea that speeds could get this high but that was over Wi-Fi by the way that wasn't even Ethernet what the hell is this thing capable of if we plug it in via ethernet maybe like the fact that the speeds were kind of all over the place might have been because we're on Wi-Fi what if we plug it in via ethernet man can you tell how happy I am with this new 4G router it blew my mind man I can't believe it's so quick damn alright guys thanks for watching hope to see you in another video soon goodbyeoh my god this router actually sped things up I've never seen speeds this fast on 4G 192 215 206 are you crazy I've never
