6 TB LaCie 2big RAID Setup (Part 2) - Krazy Ken's Tech Misadventures

**The Creation of a Home Server: A Journey of Trial and Error**

As I began setting up my home server, I realized that designing a smart and efficient system would require some careful consideration of my needs and limitations. The first challenge I faced was deciding on the right USB hub to connect all my devices to. After weighing my options, I decided to go with a more affordable option, but I couldn't help feeling that it might not be the most ideal choice.

As I began to set up my server, I realized that I would need to create a raid array to store my files and ensure their safety. I started by connecting the hard drive to my laptop using a USB cable and plugging it into the power source. I decided to use this setup temporarily until I could find a more permanent solution.

In order to solve some of the technical issues that arose, I turned to the world of disk utilities. I began by erasing the contents of the new hard drive and formatting it with Mac OS Extended Journaled. Next, I assigned a name to my new hard drive: Tusk. I also discovered that I could use two simultaneous Time Machine backups running at once, but this option may not work for everyone.

To solve this problem, I turned to a backup utility called inego Backup Manager Pro trial. I downloaded the software and entered my product key, hoping it would work seamlessly on my iSierra machine. After downloading and installing the software, I created a new backup task and chose to use "raid backup" as the name for the backup job. I selected the option to create multiple versions of files and save them to a carbon copy.

As I began to test out the software, I was relieved to find that it worked surprisingly well. The process was smooth, and I could see my files being backed up one by one. The progress bar was like music to my ears, filling up with an almost soothing sound of mechanical hard drives crunching away. After a few minutes, the backup was complete, and all my files were safe.

Throughout this journey, I realized that creating a home server requires patience, persistence, and a willingness to learn. It's not always easy, but the end result is well worth the effort. As I looked at my newly set up system, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. The raid array was secure, the backup was complete, and everything was running smoothly.

**The Future of My Home Server**

As I look to the future, I'm excited to see how my home server will evolve. With the raid array in place, I'll be able to ensure that all my files are safe and secure. The Time Machine backups will provide me with an added layer of protection, giving me peace of mind knowing that I can always recover my data in case something goes wrong.

I'm also looking forward to exploring other features of my home server, such as the ability to assign tasks and schedules to my backups. With this level of control, I'll be able to customize my backup schedule to fit my needs, ensuring that my files are backed up regularly without interrupting my daily routine.

As I sign off on this article, I'm reminded that creating a home server is just the beginning. There's always more to learn and discover, but with each step forward, I feel more confident in my ability to manage my own technology. Bring on the next challenge!
