Prestado is where we'll borrow all types of vehicles, explore them, drive them, and see if the hype surrounding each one is real. So welcome to this exciting journey!
This is the MKIV Toyota Supra - no surprise here for fans of the iconic model. In the automotive world in Japan, there exist a few cars that stand out for their attributes of power, style, and extravagant characteristics. Among these legendary models are the Mazda RX-7 FD, the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, and the Toyota Supra Mark IV.
The automotive world in Japan recognizes these three models as having exceptional attributes that set them apart from others. The Mazda RX-7 FD, the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, and the Toyota Supra Mark IV are often referred to as "classic" models, with a reputation for being among the best in their class.
In North America, these cars gained fame through games like Gran Turismo, NeedFor Speed, and Midnight Club. However, it was the release of Fast & Furious in 2001 that catapulted the Supra to new heights of recognition. In this iconic movie, the hero car is an orange Supra, which Brian O'Conner rescues and modifies to pay his debt to Dom.
The release of the movie marked the beginning of the Supra's rise to fame in the tuning world. The ease with which a Supra can be modified made it a formidable opponent on the track, earning its place as a legendary car among enthusiasts.
Today, we have the opportunity to explore the Toyota Supra Mark IV - not just any Supra, but an iconic model that has captured the hearts of many fans worldwide. We'll drive, modify, and see if the hype surrounding this incredible vehicle is real.

Toyota Supra (No duh Felipe)In the automotive world in Japan there exists a few carsthat are recognized for their attributes of power, style, and extravagant characteristics. But there are three models that you could say that are like thelegendary pokemon, the classic ones'cus I don't know what's up with the new ones. And these are the Mazda RX-7 FD,the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R and theToyota Supra Mark IV.In North America these cars became famous throughgames like Gran Turismo, NeedFor Speed, and Midnight Club. But fame reached its peak with the release of Fastand The Furious in 2001In which the hero car was that orange Suprathat Brian O'Conner rescues and modifies in order to pay hisdebt to Dom of a car capable of running a quarter milein less than ten seconds. The release of the movie can be said to have been the genesisof the Supra's fame in the tuning world. And the fame kept growing due to how easy it was to modify aSupra so that it could be a lethal weapon against supercars. The image of the orange Supra being driven by BrianO'Conner on the streets of LA left manyof us with the dream of one day simply being able to drive a SupraAnd today we finally have the opportuity to explore theSupra. And not just any Supra, the iconic Mark IV.And we'll see if the "Hype" about this car is true?If its ease of tuning, if its engine,if its drivability and performance are really the things of legend. So we'll start with the exterior, then we'll checkout the interior, and finally we'll get to drive it!Let's go!Let's check out the exterior of the Supra. And there is no other place to begin than withthis piece right here. The wing. It's ... it's bigger than my dinning table at homeAlso, who can complain about the iconic Supra logo.It looks gorgeous. The rest of the car in this rear section looks verysimple. The tail lights, nothing special, but everyone knows it'sa Supra if they see them. And the fun fact back here, the interesting bit is that it onlyhas one exhaust.Toyota focused so much on reducing the weight of this carthat they said "nah eff it, we are not putting two exahusts,we're only gonna give it one!"And the one this car has is an aftermarket one from JapanBecause we borrowed this Supra straight fromJapan. That is the craziest thing in the world. That is also why it has these wheels. These are aftermarket. They are Works. They are not the original wheels but they look good on this car.And starting here, on the side of the car it has two airintakes. One on this side and one on the other side. The intakes are for air to runinto this part, and then move back here towards the brakes. And that is to lower the temperature of the brakes. And aside from the brakes the air also moves further backand it hits the rear differential.Everything on this car has a proper function. This car came to be known first as the Toyota CelicaThen the Celica was known as the Toyota Celica-SupraIn Japan it was known as the Celica XX.But, the inspiration for the Supra really came from...for this model specifically, was the Toyota 2000GT.Which is this car's grandfather. That is why it has these long lines, and it looks beautifulSeeing it person, it really is...I've waited so long to be up close to one and to drive it...this is really something else.Moving on to the front. The front has this long hood. The hood is long because the engine has sixcylinders inline.Inline engines tend to be longer in comparisonto V-shaped engines, and seeing this front endthis is the iconic look of the Supra.Seeing it in person it honestly does look widerthan when I saw it in a movie for the first time.Everyone knows what movie that is.And it has three air intakes at the front.Curiously it does not have grillesand that is on purpose, Toyota did not want to put grillesin order to reduce the weight of the car.All the air that enters through these three intakesat the front, which are big, is to keep the temperature ofthe engine low. What more can I tell you about the front? The exterior is beautiful. And seeing the car in person, the car is small. This one is a bit longer but it suits it.Right now a dude went by and he yelled out "Hey, is that a Supra?"And we were all like "Yeah dude"then the dude said "why does it look so small?"And we were like "'cus that's how you have it dude!"But yeah, the car tends to look small. And under Toyota's same focus to keep the weight downgiving it only one exhaust, the intakes don't have grilles...Most of this car is made out of aluminium.I believe that is the hood, the roof , and the doors. And the roof, this one is the hard-top version. The one from Fast and the Furious is the targa model. It's the one that most people recognize. But the best model that you can buy to drive is theone that is not the targa model.Because it weighs less and has a more rigid structure. And the coolest part and most unique thingfor those of us that are car fanatics, is that this is the RZ model.Which makes it an original Japanese spec carthe same car thatHideo Minagawa drove in Initial D,I think it was season 5.I love the exterior of this car. What's up with the motor? The motor?Let me show you. This side dudeAh crap.Ladies and gentlemen meet the 2JZ.OK.For those watching this and dont't know why weare so stoked to have this car here. There is a legend behind this incredible motor. It's a motor that you can modify tomake incredible amounts of horsepower. This specific model is the 2JZ.It is the most saught after, the one everybody wants. It's six cylinders, inline, with all that Toyota tech. But aside from that this model is the 2JZ-GTE.Which means that it has two turbos. It has two turbos in sequence, they are sequential. It means that one turbo kicks in, bum, bum, bum, bum,bum and when it begins to lose power the second turbo kicks in.And that gives you power along the whole power band. It's an incredible machine. At least that's what we've been told, that is the Hype.but we'll see if it's true once we drive it.The interior is clean. The car looks brand new, it looks like it justrolled out of the dealership. What I'm seeing here is thatthe suspension is probably after market.Because you can adjust how hard or soft you want it.Eaaa.The tubos, the turbos are hidden here somewhere. When we drive it we'll see if we feel them.Something cool about this motor, and those who are intocars already know, but for those who don'tis that when this car was launched Toyota told the publichey, this motor only produces 276hp.But that is because in Japan, amongst Japanese car brandsHonda, Nissan, they all had an agreement. And that was "Yo, you are not gonna tell peoplethat your car makes more than 276hp."It was called the"Gentleman's Agreement".And that was to adjust the car market and thingsof that nature. But this car actually makes between 320 and 326horsepower, which is plenty. And all that power goes to a transmissionthat just like the engine, it too is saught after. It is the V160, made by a German company calledGetrag. And whomever you talk to about a Supra, for the one who knows, they will ask you "does it have the V160?'Cus if not I don't want it."They are expensive, the Hype isthat they are the best, they are smoothit shifts like butter. It's is crazy that we have this model with all the specsthat everybody wants.Honestly huge thanks to TOPRANKfor letting us borrow this car. It's insane. And with all that, with the components of the2JZ, two turbos, the legendary transmission made by a German companyfor this Japanese car, the car came to be kown in Japan asGodzilla's assasin. And for those that do not know, Godzilla refers tothe famousNissan Skyline GT-R.When this car debuted it was compared againstother Japanese sportscarssuch as the Mazda RX-7FD and the Nissan 300ZX.But its fame was so big and it's power capacity as wellthat it was compared against the Porsche 911 and the Corvette ZR1.That's how good this thing is.It is really crazy to have it in front of me.I have to show you the interior because I've been waiting yearsto climb inside this car and I have to sharethis experience with you.Eddie also hasn't been inside one.I know he is dying to get in.Wht's up, ready for the interior?Yup.Aight.Let's checkout the interior.Let me put this down real quick. The interior. You can see that the door is already open.if you haven't noticed, the cool thing about this caris that the steering wheel is on the right side and not on the left. And that is again becase this model is the A80RZ.It comes from Japan. It was imported by a company here in Los Angelescalled TOPRANK.They lent it to us.We are very thankful.OK, the rest...Let's begin with the door. The door is very simple, it's not very "wow."I have seen so many videos about htis carbut seeing it in person it really is something else.It has a material that feels like leather.I'm not sure if it's leather. When this car was released... this car is from 1993. And when thiscar was released in '93 it was valued at $40kWhich is a good junk of change, so I'd assume Toyotawould use their best materials. Here is the door handle. It has window controls. To lock and unlock the doors, and to lock thewindows. That is the door.Let's move on to the inside which is the part that I amdying to see.Something cool that I had not noticedwhen I first saw the caruntil the owner shared it with meis that the front seats have this fabric materialIt feels ... like a common materialnothing really specialbut what I really like, right now it's freakin' hotand the seats have not gotten super hot.But the seats in the rear are made of leather.I think that is the funniest bit about this car.I don't know why they did that.I mean they said "Nah dudethe rear leather but the front fabric."If I would've been in Japan when this car was releasedI would have opted for this spec.I don't like leather seats because they getreally hot.I once burned my butt. Not worth it.The rest of the car. We're gonna take a look at this front portion. Finally in the interior of a SupraSo...is their space? How does it feel?Space...The space feels, it feels low, not uncomfortable. But I mean that is beacausewe are young. If we were a bit olderIt'd probaly be a pain getting in and out.The first thing that I see when I get inis the steering wheel with the iconic Supra logo.Honestly the steering wheel feels proper. It feels, I dunno, it feels classic, it feels good. It's what I would expect from this car. From here I move on to the center console.I love that I can see...I have the tachometer here in the centerSo I can see my revs as I'm driving.I can easily see when it's time to shift.Over here we have the speedometer. For all the Mexican people this is normalit displays speed in kilometers per hour.I'm a gringo, well "Latino," let's say LatinoSo kilometers per hour would really throw me offI'd feel like I'm going really fast, when it's more like "nah dudeyou're barely going 20mph."On this side it indicates fuel level and engine temperature. This model specifically, is weird because it hasturn signals on this side and on this side it hasthe wipers stock. But again, that is because the car has come straight from JapanIt's normal. We'll get used to it, it's nothing "wow."I know that a lot of peole say "Yoyou're driving a right-hand side car?!"But plenty of people already told meit's no big deal. "Dude you'll get it fairly quick."That is yet to be seen. The rest, it feels like I'm piloting a plane.It's...It looks that wayYeah it looks that way.I mean, everything points towards meHere it has ...And on this side it has nothing...Yeah, on this side there is nothingSo if you are a passenger in this car do not expect to see much. You can't even see the radio. You can't see if I'm turning on the AC, or ifI turn on the heater.Everything is for me.Everything is meant for the person driving the car.I'm excitedI know I can see! Before I go over to that side, still on this sideHere it has the basics, it has a clockIt has the emergency lights. Here it has a digital display that indicateswhen doors are openand I guess any other warnings. On this side it has controls to adjust the mirrorsIt's electric, that is pretty niceThis car is from 1993 and it has that feature. That is pretty fancy. On this side, the same, it has a clockIt has the AC controlsThey feel good. This console is made out of plastic, but I meanbut not cheap plastic like in my Yaris. Here it has a Kenwood stereo. It's aftermarket.I'm not sure if it works but we'll see when we turn the car on.The most important thing is this, here is the shifter. It has six speeds. You pull this thing up to shift into reverse. Here is the e-brake, Eddie's favorite part.because he loves to...hahaha...drift cars. And because this car is from the 90's it has a spot forcigarettes. We would use this to put change insideHere the same...it has this thing in case you want to have asmoke inside the car.I would never do that because it would destroy the interior of thisbeauty. Here in the center it has this small console.Look what I found, it's a cellphone. It does not have a lot of space, maybe for quarters.I guess you can fit a few things in hereif you have your registration, condoms.Depends on your priorities in life.Over to this side. The passenger side is similarIt also has this material that feels like quality leather. What grabs my attentionis that it has twoglove boxes. It has this bottom oneHere you can store...I guess it had the car's manual back in the daywhen you would buy it from the dealership. And the top one, I have no clue what else you could store thereBut it has plenty of compartments to storethings. And the weird thing is that these air ventsfor the AC on the passenger's side are differentto the driver's.These look like they are from a plane, they look like turbines. And these are the standard onesToyota must've used in other models at the time.On this side, the visor has a small mirrorvery smallHere, I'll show you. There it is.It's just like yours Eddie, it's teenie weenie small. And on this side it actually doesn't have anything.I dunno, I find it interesting.Who ever is going ot drive this car does not care how they lookbecause they are driving a Supra and they don't give a crap.Up here it has the light controls. You can set them so they turn on when you openthe doors or they can be set to be "Off"and you can control them manually for when you girl wants to do here make upand it's already 10pm and you're running late to dinner with your parentsand they start calling asking "son are you already on your way?"and you have to say "hey mom, yeah, almost therebe there in five minutes."And your girl just barely got in the car and tells you ..."Ima do my make-up""Don't drive fast"OK.Here is the key.Get in Eddie let's go for a drive!Aight, let's go.Nice car, what's the retail on one of those?More than you can afford pal, Ferrari (in Spanish)."Smoke him".Finally we are both inside the Supra.First time driving it.My first impression is, the car feels...it feels ample. There is plenty of space.Eddie how tall are you? He's 6ft 2in?6'3''There ya' go6ft 3in and he fits perfectly. The whole bit about the shifter it's fine.I've been driving on the right side, shifting with my left hand.It feels...three...after threeto five minutes of driving it feels fineNothing like "wow, it's so hard driving on the right."The tires, the tires this car has keep rubbingbecause the wheels are not the originals. It has aftermarket Work wheels. So in-turn the tires get stretched. The car has been lowered. It also has an aftermaket suspension. So you feel when it hits. The coilovers.Yeah the coilovers let you feel when it hits, scrapesand if I take a turn very tight it's like "chghghjgjjhh"It sounds like a scratched disc. And talking about the suspensionHow comfortable this car feels... It'sIt's exactly what I was expectinghonestly from this carI know it has coilovers, but it hasn't been lowered too much.It hasn't been lowered enough to change the driving dynamic of the car.I can feel everythingI feel when it hits, when it jumps.Right now we are driving at the port of Los Angelesso it's safe to say the roads arein crappy conditions.I feel when I go over bumps and pot holes. The car hits, it already scraped a few times.I hope the owner does not get pissed. But I mean, we had to drive it.Personally, I would daily this car.Perhpas it would take me a while to get the hang ofmaking a left turn when I can't see incoming trafficcoming from that side because i'm on this side.I think only that would scare me a bit, personallyI like that I can see the speedometer and tachometer. They are right here in front of me.The air conditioning is cold. It's a failry old car and it still has airconditioning that blows cold.Ea.Once I hit a straight I'll open it up.I want to see if the car can still pull.It has two turbos. It has the 2JZ.It supposedly has 300 and twenty-something horsepower. We'll see what's good.Alright, the light just turned greentaking the turn right nowIt feels good...I'm in second gearand it's like boomThere goes the first turboAhhhThird. There it goes!Uff.Right now I'm in fourth gear.I was doing about 120kpm in a very short straight.honestly pfffMy only refrence to compare against this car ...right now I've had the chance to be driving a370z and the Z does not have any turbos. It has 332hp and this carfeels like it can take it on.When I go from second to third gear...in second gear I have the revs at 5,500-6,000rpmsAnd in third it feels like the next turboit feels like the turbo is catching up.Like "Dude hold up I'm coming."The car definitely loses power and then boom! The turbo kicks in.I mean, it throws you back.It feels "damn."Yeah the change from second to third... is very prominent.Yeah, the change from second to third is incredibleI mean, the car loses a lot of power. But perhaps the solution is as simple as a tune.I'm not sure. From thrid to fourth it's whatever. At the top of third gear between 5,000 and 6,500revs is where the carthe car suddenly comes to life. All of a sudden it hooks and keeps going and going.and it climbs and climbs and just keeps accelerating. Then boom you shift to fourth, and don't lose much power. After that it's pretty tamed. It's comfortable. In fifth and sixth gear it'snot as extreme but thecar can definitely pull. It's incredible. The transmission, same thing.Speaking of shifting, I can shift quickit feels smooth.I don't struggle to get the right gears.I can see why everyone praises this transmission...The V160.We haven't used the stereo because it's still all inJapanese.I think the car thinks we are in Okinawa. We are at the por of Los Angeles.Right now we are starting to hit traffic. But there have been sections where we opened the car upand it just freakin throws you back! The driving sensation is also on par, it feels percise. What I also really like about this car are the brakes.I read an article I think from '93 ... '94.When this car was first released, it was published by the magazine CAR.And they spoke a lot about the brake design in this car. They said they were too advanced for their time. And I believe them, honestly, it still has the OEMbrakes. It brakes good, I've smashed them a few times.Yeah the car has good brakes, they bite hard.Turn signals, like I saidright now I have to merge lanes, they are on this side.So far I haven't messed up.I haven't turned on the wipers.Everytime I change lanes what does feelvery strange is the fact that I'm still not used to looking over that sideand looking in the rear view mirror and seeing that big wing.Ther's been a couple times where I think the wingis another car right behind me.It does feel kinda weird. But the more I drive it the more I'll acclimate myself.I feel it's normal, it's part of learning this car. What I like most is that it's starting to get real hot.We put the windows up.Here I have all the controls for the AC.Like we said earlier, everything points towards me.Everything is within reach and easy to use.I like the shifter positionbecause it's right here close to me.I don't have to struggle with my arm placement, either too far backor too forward. It's right here.In The Fast and the Furious this Supra racesagainst a Ferrari. That Ferrari was a F355.When the movie was released the Supra soldfor roughly $40,000 dollars. The Ferrari was priced above $120,000 dollars.More like $124,000 dollars.Right now, good luck. You can find that Ferrari cheaper thana Supra in these conditions.A Supra that has the wing, the two turbos, the V160 transmission.I mean, it's crazy how much the market has changed and what thiscar has becomeSo, does it feel big?The car or something else?Yeah, the carthe car does feel...I remember when I first saw it in the movie it looked big,it looked wide, specially next to that smallFerrari. But having it here in person, seeing it, touching it.The car does not feel very big, it feels small. It feels agile, which is a nice surprise.Oh, it just scraped.Damn.And I think I've hogged the car for too long.I've been driving it for a while. For me it really is a dream come true being able todrive this car, but ...It's my turn dude! It's my turn dude! Are you afraid?Afraid? Yeah dude, you drive like an animal. An animal? (laughs)Eddie what the hell?!I didn't do it on purpose! My ass you didn'tYou took it very...Oh sh*t!Freakin d*ck dude!haha d*ck?Is all the Hype about the Supra MKIV true?Yes.Yeah.Hell yeah it is.This was the first episode of Prestado. If you don't want to miss the rest, pleasesubscribe to Donut, hit this buttonThank you, thank you TOPRANK for letting us borrow theSupra. If some of you want to buy a Supra,or an RX-7 or a Skylinestraight from Japan. There is a link in the description. That'll take you to TOPRANK's website. If you want to learn more about the Toyota SupraWe have this episode of Up To Speed.TOPRANK also lent us a Tommy Kaira GTR, you canwatch that on this side.follow me on IG @farmenta46Follow Donut @DonutMedia, also on Twitter.Let me know in the comments what cars you want to seeWant to see exotics or do you still wantJapanese cars?I would love to borrow an RX-7My name is Felipe, see you next time.
