Apple's Third Fall 2020 Event: What to Expect
Apple's third fall 2020 event, also known as "One More Thing," is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 10th. This event marks the company's annual tradition of introducing new products and features, following its September and October events that saw the launch of new iPads, Apple Watches, iPhones, and the HomePod mini.
Back at WWDC 2020, Apple unveiled its plans to switch to ARM-based Macs, doing away with Intel chips in their current lineup. The company is designing its own Apple Silicon chips, which are similar to the A-series chips used in iPhones and iPads. The first Apple Silicon chips will be built on the 5-nanometer A14 chip, manufactured by TSMC according to Apple. These new chips are expected to bring a new level of performance to Macs, making them more powerful and energy-efficient.
Apple's goal is to deliver the highest possible performance with the lowest power consumption. The company's custom chips will provide best-in-class security with the Secure Enclave, and Apple is also designing its own GPUs for better performance with pro applications and games over the next two years. As part of this transition, Apple plans to transition its entire Mac lineup to Apple Silicon chips.
Rumors suggest that the first Macs to be updated with the new technology will be the 13-inch MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. It is also possible that a new 16-inch MacBook Pro may be announced, although production for this model has not been as far along as some of the other models.
Aside from Macs, there are rumors of several other products that Apple may announce at this event. One of these is AirTags, small trackers designed to attach to important and easily lost items like wallets, cameras, and keys. These devices will be equipped with Bluetooth and can be tracked right inside the Find My app alongside iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
There has been some debate among leakers about when AirTags will officially launch. The last thing heard was that they are ready to go and should launch later this year, although there is still some uncertainty surrounding their exact release date. In any case, it's likely that AirTags will be a major focus of Apple's event.
Another product rumored to be announced at the event is the AirPods Studio, new over-ear headphones that offer superior sound quality and head and neck detection. When taken off, these headphones would presumably be able to tell if they are on your head or pulled down around your neck, pausing the content you're listening to. According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on two designs for the AirPods Studio: one made from high-quality materials like leather and another made from breathable, lighter-weight materials.
For those who won't be able to watch the event live, MacRumors will provide live coverage here on MacRumors.com and on our MacRumors Live Twitter account. We'll have everything that Apple announces during the event, so be sure to subscribe to the channel and tune in for all the latest news.
