The Coolest Laptop You’ve Never Heard Of...

**First Impressions: Electronics MAX 17 with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080**

I recently had the opportunity to unbox and try out the Electronics MAX 17, a gaming laptop that promises to deliver top-notch performance without breaking the bank. As I booted up the laptop for the first time, I was greeted by a sleek and minimalist design that caught my attention. The laptop's plain and smooth exterior is a welcome change from the usual branding and stickers found on many gaming laptops. Instead of being bombarded with logos and advertisements, the MAX 17 comes across as a blank canvas waiting to be customized.

**Trackpad Lock Feature**

One of the first features I noticed was the trackpad lock option, which allows users to disable the touchpad for extended periods of time. This is particularly useful for keyboard enthusiasts or those who prefer using an external mouse. The feature is easily toggled on and off by double-tapping the power button, and it's also smooth and responsive. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the trackpad performed once I had disabled it.

**Gaming Performance**

Next, I decided to put the MAX 17 through its paces with some gaming benchmarks. I fired up the latest installment of Call of Duty: Warzone on high settings, and I was pleased to see that the laptop handled it with ease. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card delivered smooth performance, even at the highest frame rates. While the display resolution is only 1080p, the high refresh rate of 240Hz made a significant difference in my gaming experience.

**Display and Build Quality**

The MAX 17's display is its most notable feature, with a 15-inch 1080p panel that is both vibrant and color-accurate. While it may not be the highest resolution on the market, the high refresh rate makes up for it. I also appreciated the laptop's build quality, which features a magnesium alloy construction that makes it feel both lightweight and durable.

**Ports and Connectivity**

The MAX 17 comes equipped with the same port configuration as its larger sibling, including two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, and a headphone jack. While there are no USB-C ports on this model, I found that the existing ports were sufficient for my needs. The laptop also features a 3.8-pound weight that makes it surprisingly portable.

**Materials and Finish**

One of the standout features of the MAX 17 is its materials and finish. The laptop's exterior is made from magnesium alloy, which provides both strength and lightweight properties. The construction is also cool to the touch, making it comfortable to handle for extended periods. I was impressed by the attention to detail that Electronics MAX brought to this aspect of their design.

**Covert Gamer Option**

The MAX 17 comes in a range of colors, including a "space gray" option that provides a nice contrast with the black keyboard. For those who prefer a more understated look, the laptop also offers a partnership with Dbrand, which allows users to customize their laptop's exterior with pre-installed skins.

**Verdict**

Overall, I was impressed by the Electronics MAX 17's performance, build quality, and design. While it may not be the most powerful gaming laptop on the market, its unique blend of features and portability make it an attractive option for those looking for a high-performance device without breaking the bank.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis company reached out electronics and they claimed to have the lightest 15-inch gaming laptop and the lightest 17-inch gaming laptop we have 4.7 pounds on a 17-inch and we have under 4 pounds 3.82 on the 15-inch and that's with dedicated graphics that's with an eight gigabyte 2080 super max q graphics card that's a pretty amazing claim to have a 3.8 pound 15-inch laptop 3.82 or to have a 4.71 pound 17-inch i mean i pay attention to this stuff so you don't see it come across that often now let's see what it says i'm going to start with the 17 inch model over here covert gamer thunderbolt technology which is huge for me i look for that on any laptop i'm going to use so it's thunderbolt 3 hdmi output also important for the tv or the external monitor electro boost i assume that's some type of software there maybe for some increased performance or something like that next gen hardware high refresh rate 240 hertz display on both of these models actually that brings me to the only other difference between the two you have a slightly larger battery and a 17 inch which is something you'd expect color calibrated display and thx spatial audio now another thing that's important to note about this brand the builders of the brand are are also the customer service people of the brand and they're located in the u.s so you're not calling somewhere far away if you have any issues with your particular system lightest in its class core i7 octa-core processor that is the 10875h 8-core processor of course geforce rtx as i mentioned previously 90 plus watt hour battery and the construction the way that they're able to get this thing so lightweight is by using a full magnesium alloy construction this is a material of life for a long time when the gadgets and electronics including you know the cameras and things like this where you've seen it implemented strong but also lightweight it's been a while since i have used a 17-inch laptop i do almost everything on a laptop so i like having a big display and the problem or the main drawback especially if you want a powerful laptop is that once you get up to 17 inches you get something big and clunky and heavy and this is not it this is i can deal with that 4.7 there we go now you can see already it's a very simple design oh this is gonna be quite a nice peel pay attention here oh baby now as you can tell right away it's a matte black finish and it's no crazy branding and i kind of like this it's so low-key look at this uh it's it's your own thing it's not you're not blasting out any other brand to the rest of the world i think that's why they went with the covert name it's very stealth-like and since it's a matte finish you can see it's not a fingerprint magnet either but it's still because it's that magnesium alloy it's still cool to the touch and it still feels quality they do have a partnership with dbrand as well if you do want a little more personality you can throw a dbrand skin on there so that's completely up to you but i like that out the gate is not overly branded so very thin for this type of horsepower we look around the outside here you can see two usb type a ports on this side as well as a micro sd card slot very useful some ports on the back which is nice for a laptop that can really replace any type of desktop you may want to have some things permanently connected and i like having those ports on the back for power for your ethernet connector for an hdmi as well as that thunderbolt port which is so useful for us in this studio because we're moving large files around on a regular basis on external drives and things like that and even editing off them and thunderbolt is the way when it comes to throughput over on the other side we have one more usb type a port and then you're gonna have your mic and your headphone jack so lots of poor versatility here all right let me just look at the other items in the box before i look at the deck you know i'm going to evaluate i got to look at the keyboard and things as well a little bit of paperwork and last up is the power brick which you know to power up with 2080 it's gonna need to be fairly substantial as you'd expect extension cable and there's the power brick itself okay let's go ahead and crack it open oh all right all right another nice peel going on in here let's go ahead and reach for that this is interesting the camera is down below obviously they've done this to get the thinner bezel up along top and i don't mind i don't use the front-facing camera all that frequently i probably would prefer myself to not stare at it and see the thin bezel on the side and the top and especially to have it you know the symmetry on the important aspects top is kind of where your eye line goes more frequently this again when it comes to not having too much branding it's kind of refreshing i gotta say you see you take a look at this and it's just laptop that's just my laptop it's not there's no stickers i've cracked open so many of these things and it's like it's screaming at you this one is not it's very subtle nice and subdued and that is a big display how about a quick brown fox real quick okay so for me with the haunted peck it's there's actually quite a bit of travel there maybe more than i expected when i first looked at the keyboard chiclet style but it's embedded it's a little deeper inside the chassis so you actually get some fairly decent travel out of it let's go ahead and boot it up some other specs while this is booting up 240hz ips display it has glass protection on the touchpad ir camera with windows hello for face unlock to get into it wi-fi six four terabytes of pcie ssd 64 gigs of ram okay cool so we are booted up now oh nice little feature here you can lock the trackpad which is something you especially might want to do if you're doing a lot of keyboard work or if you're not using it because you have an external mouse which of course a lot of people are going to have with a dedicated gaming laptop you double tap up here green light comes on to let you know that your touchpad is locked double tap again and the touchpad comes to life and it's also quite smooth and satisfying a little update here i took this laptop home with me i you know i packed it up i took it home because i wanted to game on it a little bit use it a little bit that dude's dead oh i was being overly aggressive there i gotta say just i'm kind of into it i played a little bit of the new cod what is it cold war who hit me there come on nice 17-inch display it's not crazy high resolution keyboard surprised me a little bit as well there we go the most striking thing to me is the fact that it is so plain and smooth and light i've seen so much of the opposite which is a lot of branding and uh stickers and vents particularly on gaming laptops anything that is that they're telling you you're supposed to game on it this one on the other hand you're full out stealth mode you could be doing whatever you want on here and uh it keeps up like a champ this is even thinner and lighter than the 17-inch i think it comes in like 3.8 pounds for a 15 inch with a 20 80 and a crazy spec sheet matching the 17 inch now you probably noticed a little bit of branding here there's a partnership that electronics has with dbrand if you did want a more custom look they can ship it to you with a pre-installed dbrand skin this is like a honeycomb pattern on this one i thought it was kind of funny because the laptop is so unbranded to begin with and then you slap a skin on it and now you have your brand but either way it's up to you whatever suits your taste you can hook it up like that now this one is also a different color so you have this kind of gun metal maybe you want to call it space gray if you're familiar with the color on the macbooks and this kind of has a nice little what would you say contrast with the black keyboard i'm not sure which one i'm partial to but uh it's nice to have a couple of different options i'm going to peel off all this wonderful plastic here here we go and then this piece here now construction is the same it's cool to the touch it's a magnesium alloy that's how they can get these things to be so light yet so powerful as far as ports are concerned i believe it's the same setup as well yes i believe these two are identical other than the color and the scale so now the display is 1080p this is not a huge deal for gamers but for me is a bit of an adjustment i do have some other higher resolution displays on laptops of this scale however this one since it's targeted at gamers it's more important to have the high refresh rate which this one does at 240 hertz man games are games can be fun too though like gaming is kind of fun it gets the job done as for certain with a 2080 i'm not surprised i'm playing a game with high settings plenty of fps you can of course tweak it to get whatever it is that you're looking for this the fans do kick up so keep that in mind you're going to hear them you get the idea i don't know which one i would pick of the 15 or 17 to be honest because i do like a really portable laptop but this still is even with the 17-inch size either way i would say it's a pleasant surprise here to look at a product from a brand that i was previously unfamiliar with and be this impressed often we bring our expectations in when it's a brand that you've heard of and then you're a little bit more curious when you haven't however the fit and finish here the materials the magnesium the thinness and so forth it's it's pretty impressive so there you have it it's the electronics max 17. meet the game changer why don't you it comes in the 15-inch size as well covert gamer which makes sense again the lack of branding i think it's going to be a popular choice for people who like to keep it minimal you could just pop this into some games play high performance and then the rest of the time get the business and the work done and no one even needs to know about it you're the covert gamer that's you youthis company reached out electronics and they claimed to have the
