**CES 2019: A Year of Innovation**
This year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has been marked by some of the most exciting and innovative technology announcements from around the world. From autonomous vehicles to smart bathrooms, CES has it all.
**Autonomous Vehicles Take Center Stage at CES**
At the heart of this year's CES was a presentation by Kia about its wireless charging system and automated valet parking system, commonly referred to as TV Savs. This system allows car owners to use a phone app to send their autonomous cars to a valet garage when they arrive at a destination that has a valet garage. Not only that, but the car would then find a wireless charging spot for electric vehicles and notify the owner when it's at full charge. The car would then re-park itself in a regular parking spot until such a time that the owner calls it back again. This may seem like a far-fetched idea, but it's actually not the weirdest car-related thing announced at CES this year.
Kia is also showcasing its prototype system called the Real-Time Emotion Adaptive Driving System, or READ. This system adapts a vehicle's interior to the passenger's emotional state using sensors to detect facial expressions, heart rate, and bioelectrical activity. The system then vibrates the seats to match the music, provides massages, and even makes the driver forget about any negative emotions they may have had. This is definitely one of the most unique features announced at CES this year.
Meanwhile, AMD is looking to make a bigger presence in the laptop market with its new lineup of 2nd Gen Mobile Ryzen processors. The chips are reportedly not based on Zen 2 cores but do feature quad-core models paired with built-in Vega graphics. The higher-end models sport a new H designation, indicating a boost in power that could take on Intel's competing processors. AMD claims that their new chips will give Intel's processors a run for their money in applications such as Microsoft Office and Photoshop, as well as gaming.
AMD's chips will be found in a number of laptops this coming year from top manufacturers such as Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and more. But the other big news is that AMD chips will also be in Chromebooks for the first time. This marks a significant move for AMD, which has been trying to expand its presence in the laptop market.
**Power Supplies Get the Spotlight at CES**
Seasonic, a well-known brand in the power supply industry, was showcasing its latest and greatest power supplies at CES. The company has been making power supplies since the 1980s, and they know what they're doing. Their power supplies are known for their outstanding performance and efficiency, making them a great choice for anyone looking to build or upgrade their gaming PC.
Seasonic's power supplies are designed to keep your PC running like an Olympic athlete – not literally, of course! But seriously, these power supplies are designed to provide reliable and efficient power to your computer, ensuring that it runs smoothly and quietly. If you're in the market for a new power supply, Seasonic is definitely worth checking out.
**Smart Home Appliances Take Center Stage at CES**
Alexa and Google Assistant are being baked into everything from headphones to refrigerators, so why should bathrooms get ignored? Kohler is on the same page as many other companies this year, showcasing a smart bathroom setup featuring a smart mirror, smart bathtub, and – yes – the Nume 2.0 Intelligent Toilet. This means that you can say "Alexa, flush my dookie" and have your toilet handle the task for you.
But Kohler isn't the only company pushing the boundaries of smart home technology at CES. Whirlpool has announced that it will be adding Wear OS smart watch support to its existing smart appliances. This means that you'll be able to control your oven, laundry machine, or any other smart appliance from the comfort of your wrist.
**5G Technology Takes a Step Forward**
While 5G technology may not be here yet, D-Link is looking to the future with the announcement of the 5G NR Home Router. This router will pick up a 5G mobile connection and distribute it in a home through Wi-Fi, rather than relying on a coaxial or network plug. That means that your router will have a SIM card, which could be a game-changer for those looking to upgrade their networks without having to install cable.
The 5G NR Home Router is scheduled to arrive in the second half of this year, but if it marks the beginning of a new era in home networking, then it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
