OnePlus 5 UNBOXING
The OnePlus 5: A Flagship Device with Impressive Features and a Matte Black Finish
This is the OnePlus logo, and at the top, we have the brand new dual camera setup. So, there's the primary camera, which is 16 megapixels and has an f1.7 aperture. But then we've got a secondary camera, which is 20 megapixels and it's a telephoto lens, so you can get two times zoom on here. This has an f2.6 aperture as well. Additionally, you have a portrait mode, which will allow you to blur the background. Yes, I know that many of you are going to be going crazy in the comments, and we'll address this later.
You also have a Pro mode, so you can customize the settings and everything, and what's quite cool on here is that you also have a histogram, which will allow you to go in and do lots of tweaks and things. If you're somebody who's really into your photography, you'll be able to use this device to its full potential. Many of you want to see a camera comparison with some other flagships. One of those devices that comes to mind is the Google Pixel. I'll see how well electronic image stabilization works on this.
Now, for the operating system, we have Oxygen OS on top of Android 7.1.1. This is definitely one of the best skins in my opinion; it's not too invasive but does provide some nice customizations. In terms of other features, you've got a 3,300mAh battery, which is supposed to give you around 20% more usage compared to the OnePlus 3T due to the optimizations. There's also Bluetooth 5.0, so you can connect to two devices at one time, which is definitely nice.
Another cool thing about the OnePlus 5 is that it supports 34 GSM networks. This means that you'll be able to travel with the device and pick up the networks in different regions without issues, unlike some other devices where buying a US model of a device and bringing it over to the UK might result in not being able to use certain features.
The OnePlus 5 is powered by the latest and greatest processor available at the time, which is the Snapdragon 835. In terms of RAM and storage, we have two versions: one with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and another with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The pricing for these devices will be as follows: the 6GB version costs $479 or £449 in the UK. The more expensive option, which is the 8GB version with 128GB of storage, costs $539. While this is more expensive compared to previous OnePlus devices, it's also worth noting that you're getting more features and improvements each year.
The release date for the official launch of the device is the 27th of June. However, you will be able to get your hands on it earlier at popup stores. Now, let's address the elephant in the room: this does look very much like the iPhone 7 Plus with that matte black color, the antenna lines going over the top, and that dual camera setup, which also works similarly.
Would I have liked to see something different? Yes, of course. It would have been nice to see something a little more unique. Am I too bothered by it looking like the iPhone 7 Plus? Not too much.
What do you guys think of this design? Do you prefer it or is there something else that you'd like to see from OnePlus? Definitely drop me a comment below, and let's discuss this further.
