and hopefully make you less miserable when you're a play space is the same as your work space the phrase home office is going to stop having meaning soon home office home office so one of the biggest investments you can make and one of the best investments I guess I should say is to replace your desk if you have a bad desk look how cool that desk is looks amazing alright it's not it's actually overtime proven to be one of the worst desks I've ever had the leg space is terrible it's it's then which is nice but I don't really use it and the motherboard being inside the desk wow that's cool you got the glass you can look down on it but you know what you can't do you can't attach USB peripherals to the board directly and it does pass through but there's two ports two ports so this desk has proven to be kind of a misery and it started out really cool but I really don't like it so personally I'm going to upgrade my desk unfortunately it's here in the office and I'm gonna be at home but I actually have the same desk at home so hey we're gonna show you a cool desk that's a lot cheaper than this one that you can invest in when you think about a desk you can't ignore the chair and the chair that I have at home is like an office Mac special and the difference really really shows itself after a couple of months of going from one to the for eight hours a day so don't skimp on the chair it makes a lot more difference than you would think when it comes to your happiness overall a couple of brands we've used here in the office are steel case actually mostly you steel case but also there's Herman Miller this is a steel case leap now we did buy these used and we got them for much lower than the retail price if you go to their website and you look at those prices you freak out ya don't pay that try to go to a used furniture store or find an office that's going out of business or something like that and get one for cheap but they really are a great investment I am not the best of this so maybe do as I say and not as I do but one other thing that you should do when you're working from home is keep a schedule try to get up at the same time every day go to bed at the same time every night again I'm not the best at this but it does kind of help you keep yourself motivated to keep working which is important right now you don't have to buy your desk all in one piece not everything on world is IKEA you can do it yourself a lot of people like to do that hey if you're gonna do that make a youtube video about it maybe make some money that way but we are actually going to cobble together a bit of a Frankenstein desk and it's not the first time we've done this we actually have one of these in the studio that we use a lot it is a grizzly butcher block top which isn't really designed for computer desks but it works great up lift legs which are a sit stand version of motorized legs you can also get a version that's not motorized and we're also going to put this space Co under desk strap for holding a PC if you're gonna do a dual PC solution this is great because you don't have to have two PC's taking up space on your desk one can hang underneath case you're wondering about the monitor mounting solution this is space code it's a high end solution it's expensive it's gonna cost a lot these particular ones came from Lehman Brothers when Lehman Brothers went out of business so sometimes you can get lucky and buy about 300 at a time I have a dark IT past it's fine yeah a lot of day trading and these are really nice monitor mounts are incredible they last forever it's a it's a buy once and forget about it kind of thing and this is the same solution that we're gonna use on Ryan's new desk it's a threaded rod you can get a clamp on and some other ones but the the threaded rod that bolts in place is unstoppable you tighten it down and it's not going anywhere so that's exactly what we're gonna do on Brian's new desk and yeah I did this to the old best to had to modify the old desk in order to get this to work and makes it to where you can take the glass off without moving your monitors on the old desk which is a requirement basically to be able to work on the machine and do a little bit of stuff but turns out terribly inconvenient moving a forty pound piece of glass anyway so it's such a pretty desk see this is the same threaded rod the same setup that we had before just a matter of drilling at home although be sure to because it's made out of you know butcher block you don't want to drill in between two pieces of wood you want to drill in one center piece of wood so one thing you might want to invest in is a nice pair of headphones and I'm not talking about like just a pair of ear buds because they're uncomfortable and you really can't hear that wall out of them if you can try to get a pair like this so it goes over top of your ear they'll just help you hear better and then also you can do music as well now if you're someone like Wendell who doesn't listen to music except for Weird Al that might not help you focus but for other people who you know maybe just have a Spotify account or listen to music on YouTube that can kind of help keep you level during a really hectic work day also going back to the idea of a call get a good mic they're kind of hard to find right now but something like this will make you sound 100 percent better when you have to talk to someone outside of your office space now the ones that we're showing you guys are the HyperX cloud twos this does actually have a mic in it now the mic and the one that we showed you did die at this point but it worked great before that on conference calls and these are mid-range you know so still an investment still little bit expensive but not as nearly as expensive some of the other kinds that you're gonna see on the market especially right now with things kind of being crazy on Amazon so let's talk about your audio setup people don't think about this being useful in the webcam era but you can make this serviceable as you're teleconferencing solution if you don't want to pay the inflated prices for modern webcams now if you're already working like you know but we mentioned in a separate office space you probably already have a separate computer that you're using to work on but in some cases again if you're not working in your home office and you're using the same machine for everything that's kind of introducing a lot of distractions during the day I mean you talk about discordant messages steam messages your friend telling you to 1v1 you and over watch it and you know even just browsing reddit it can be really really distracting so if you're one of these people who's having to use this a machine for everything you might look into dual booting you should definitely try to put your home office in a separate space now it's not all of us are lucky enough to be able to have a dedicated room for a home office but even just putting your workspace into another area so you're working you know in your kitchen at your dining room table instead of in your bed where you're normally browsing stuff on your
