**Testing the New iPad Mini: First Impressions**
We were excited to get our hands on the new iPad Mini as soon as it launched, and we jumped at the chance to buy one as soon as possible. The first thing we did was install Fortnite and start playing, eager to see how this new device would feel in our hands. We had been waiting for an update to the iPad Mini for a long time, and we were eager to dive back into gaming with this new device.
**The Screen: A Great Size for On-the-Go Play**
One of the first things we noticed about the screen was its great size - it's small enough to easily take on the go, but large enough to provide an immersive experience. We took our Nintendo Switch with us before, but this is a better option by far. The resolution is higher, and the screen feels more responsive when using the controller. We also appreciated that the iPad Mini comes with a stand, making it easy to prop up and play.
**Controller: Easy to Use**
Using the Apple Pencil or our SteelSeries controller was incredibly easy - we found ourselves playing Fortnite for longer periods of time because the experience felt so natural. However, one drawback is that the joysticks on the controller don't feel as precise when pressed down, which can be a bit annoying. We'll have to wait and see how this affects gameplay in the future.
**Performance: Smooth Gameplay at 60 FPS**
One of the things we were most excited to try was playing Fortnite with the iPad Mini's powerful processor. We boosted the frame rate up from 30 FPS to 60 FPS, and noticed an instant difference in smoothness. The April Bionic processor really is capable of handling demanding games like Fortnite, and we can't wait to see what other experiences it provides.
**Display: Brighter and More Responsive**
The display on the iPad Mini is also a highlight - it's brighter than previous models, and has a laminated screen that reduces movement and gives the controller a more solid feel. We loved playing with the controller in our hands, feeling like we were right under our fingers rather than having to press down through an air gap.
**Conclusion: A Great Option for Gaming**
Overall, we think the iPad Mini 5 is an excellent option for those looking to play games on the go. With its powerful processor, high-resolution display, and smooth gameplay at 60 FPS, it's a great choice for Fortnite fans in particular. The device also comes with a range of features that make it easy to use, including a stand and support for external controllers. Whether you're playing in bed or on the couch, the iPad Mini is sure to provide an immersive experience.
**Our Verdict: Worth the Investment**
So, are we going to recommend the iPad Mini 5? Absolutely. It's a great option for anyone looking to play games on the go - and with its high-resolution display and powerful processor, it's definitely worth the investment. The only downside is that it can be a bit pricey, but if you're already invested in the Apple ecosystem or just want a compact gaming device, this is an excellent choice.
**What Do You Think?**

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enedie is a time to get our game on and play some fortnight on the fifth generation 2019 iPad Mini welcome everyone it is Andrew here from Apple insider we have our hands on the brand-new 2019 fifth generation iPad Mini it has a new eight well Bionic processor a fully laminated display that is also brighter than the last generation iPad Mini we are going to be playing at some fortnight we're gonna see how that upgraded processor does how this thing just does in general try it 60 frames a second try with our controller and we will let you know if this is probably one of the best gaming devices out there spoiler alert we kind of already love it so let's go ahead and get into it and play some games so to start off we're going to use our steel series Nimbus XL to play some fortnight we've already jumped in we're waiting for the match to start and everything is feeling very smooth we're really digging this we hadn't played with an iPad Mini in a really long time it had been such overdue for an update that we just had not even had one in our possession so we jumped on the chance to buy the new one as soon as it launched and the first thing we did literally the first thing we did was install for tonight and start playing and see how this feels and on so this is such a great sized screen we'd take our Nintendo switch with us before on the go but this is such a better option the screen is better with a much higher resolution using our controller it's also really easy just to set this up somewhere prop it up with a stand leaning up against something and then just play it's also so easy to take with us we found ourselves playing this so much more often than on our phone because the throne screen is so small and your hands start to cover that display there are still some limitations with this controller for instance you can't press the joysticks down so if you're trying to crouch and you're trying to press down the joystick to click that's not a thing with the SteelSeries in them as excel so that was a little bit annoying here but other than that we really enjoyed playing with the controller with our iPad Mini but I think we were more excited to try out was how this worked playing in your hands and how it worked on 60 frames a second everything you've seen so far has been at 30 frames a second everything has been super super smooth other than the 30 frames a second so once we went into our settings we boosted that frame rate up to 60 and then sort of playing we immediately noticed a difference on the level of smoothness here that April Bionic processor is just killing it with this it's having no problem at all playing at 60 frames a second on fortnight streaming everything was absolutely wonderful and it felt so natural so smooth as we are playing once we put the controller or the iPad into our hands we also really appreciated that new display it is brighter and since it's laminated which means the screen is actually fused to that front glass it's laminated together we didn't have any kind of movement in the display when we're pressing down and what we were touching like there's controls they felt more like they were right under your fingers instead of that gap of air between the glass and the display the iPad Mini comes in a great spot it has a powerful processor with a small display the smallest display in the lineup but the highest ppi that Apple uses so getting great resolution with a small display it holds perfectly in your hands it's extremely lightweight for those really long play sessions works with controllers you could even plug this into your TV if you wanted to using it that lightning to HDMI and kind of take this with you anywhere and throw it up on a TV to get a even better large screen experience so the iPad Mini 5 is this going to be the best device for playing for tonight especially for make kind of on the go it probably is this display is pretty incredible 326 PPI which is the highest resolution Apple does same thing is on the latest like iPhone 10s Macs and all of those same PPI so the density of the screen is great it is fully laminated so everything you're seeing and touching feels closer in this display doesn't feel as kind of bendy as you're actually using it compared to other devices that you could get the iPod Touch which is is still around and has not been updated this thing can't even play Fortnight because it required two gigs of RAM which this thing does not have so you can't play it on an iPod touch and your other option is going to an iPhone these have much smaller displays and your hands kind of covered the display so using an external controller is okay but these things are expensive do you really want to have to buy a phone if you don't already have one I mean especially for going on the go and you want a bigger display the iPad Mini is that perfect spot it's got a strong processor with a good sized screen that's not too big it can easily slide into bags even back pockets for some people so in our opinion the iPad Mini is a great option if you wanna play games especially now that Apple has updated it in 2019 so what
