**Budget Gaming Options: A Review**
Now we're doing 1080p low settings this is a bot match which with our cpu shortcomings here is definitely going to affect the performance somewhat but even with the bots this feels really good and if you're looking for a cheap way to play cs go with your friends without having to battle input lag to the death uh yeah this is this is a good option now here I'm running fortnite at 1080p competitive settings which is all low except for epic draw distance and it feels really good uh if you are a young person that wants to play some fortnite with your friends and you don't have much money for a pc this is a great way to go because you don't have to worry about the whole input lag issue that you have using a service like geforce now so it feels better than that and it's just in a whole different league to that cheapest amazon system which we had to use like 50 resolution scale that really gives you that vaseline in the eyes effect.
Escape from Tarkov is actually not running too badly customs isn't the most demanding map in the game but you know as far as input lag and stuff goes this this feels decent the visuals aren't on great but it it feels good and that is more important for a game like escape from tarkov we have a whole bunch of dead timmy's over here oh no died that means that this timmy couldn't find the extract and just died of hunger or something rest in peace little timmy now one thing that's really stood out to me uh over overall of my gameplay is that the two gig frame buffer on the gtx 960 is is definitely a problem all of the games have sat with the gpu just maxed out in terms of video memory this this gtx 960 is is really showing its age but you know all of the games have been playable and too much more of an extent than they were on that on that cheap amazon system which means this is still way better value for money than any of the pre-built you're going to find in this price class.
Esports titles now that is something that is really important for a very budget system to excel at and this little system does them really well cs go valorant tom clancy siege r6 rainbow all of that stuff is gonna run at a high refresh rate fps at 1080p low settings which is awesome uh fortnite was also amazingly playable on this system and even more demanding titles stuff like control and shadow of the tomb raider at 1080p low settings were surprisingly playable so yes gaming can happen these days at lower price points it is unfortunate that we don't have like an rx 570 in here but considering that in most of the games the cpu was the main bottleneck it means that even if we put like a 3080 ti in here we're not going to get a better gaming experience so i guess it's fine right now as is always the case with this kind of optiplex system there are caveats to it right future upgradability is a huge issue with these systems we've got proprietary parts in there so it's difficult to upgrade one part at a time and in terms of cpu performance you can get something like a like an i7 4790 which will give you uh it'll give you some more threads but that's about as far as you can go on the software side of things windows 11 is definitely not going to support a system like this so that's something to keep in mind as well is that in terms of software this is starting to become a legacy product but if you keep all of that in mind and you have your expectations in tow i think currently on the super budget end of the market i think the old dell optiplexes is still a viable option.
Let me know in the comment section down below if you think so too and what you thought of the gaming performance here yeah thank you very much for watching oh also let me know what kind of budget options you could find in your area and how they compare to this system it's always interesting to see how the prices fluctuate in various areas and yeah thank you very much for watching until the next video like and subscribe to the channel and i'll see you around bye
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is a dell optiplex from 1752 and as long as i can remember it paired with a used graphics card has been the ultimate budget price to performance option but is it still relevant in 2021 because let's face it at this point the global supply crisis has not just moved into our apartments it's made itself so comfortable that i keep finding suspiciously curly hair on my soap so i think budget gaming is more relevant now than it's ever been so with that let's see what kind of graphics cards we can knife battle off of the craigslist streets to pair with this bad boy and what kind of performance we get look at that cooler why does dell not use this cooler anymore now before we check out what graphics card we could knife battle off the streets let's have a closer look at our little optiplex buddy here which i paid 160 canadian dollars for and in terms of a cpu we've got an intel i5 4590 in there which is a pretty solid four core cpu but it's just four cores so it'll be interesting to see how that holds up these days now aside from the cpu what i find really interesting about this system is the cooler that it has on it which is way chunkier than the cooler that they use on modern dowel optiplexes this is the cooler that dull currently uses on up to eight core 16 thread cpus whereas this is the cooler that i just took out of this old optiplex that has a quad core in it how does that make any sense now in terms of ram we do have two sticks but they are mismatched equaling six gigs of ddr3 it's not ideal uh this may actually be one of the big bottlenecks in the system but we'll test all of that later in the video but my main concern is the power supply here which has a max continuous rating of 290 watts and the big problem with it is that it doesn't have any pcie power connectors so we're gonna have to get really ghetto about how we plug the graphics card in here but i've got a solution for that now another big problem with the power supply is that it has these stupid proprietary connectors for motherboard power and stuff which means we're not going to be able to replace it if it doesn't work with the system which that's just such a standard oem irritation other than that we have a very weirdly mounted hard drive in here i don't really know what the seller was doing but it should still work fine and we also have some ventilation on the front which is really weird to see for a dell system um but other than that it's it's all fairly standard so yeah let's let's go have a look at the graphics card ugh okay now in terms of graphics card it it didn't go great uh the best option that i could find was this which is a gtx 960. it's quite an old graphics card that only has two gigs of video memory but i only paid 140 canadian dollars for it and that means the combination of the graphics card and the optiplex gives us a total system cost of 240 us dollars at this point which that's pretty budget now this isn't going to perform as well as you know if we had an rx 570 to drop in there which usually would have been the go-to option but those sell for like a kidney and a quick hand job in the parking lot which is just more than i'm willing to pay for one so yeah it's not going to give us that kind of performance but we're going to get way better performance than the gt 710 that we had in this cheapest amazon system that i did a video on recently so you know we're going to get a lot more performance than that for a lot less money which gives us room to get like an ssd in there which you know will make the system more snappy so with that let's see what kind of gaming performance we get with our 240 dollar gaming system oh no there's so much connector in the way oh wow that just fits in there and it's kind of squeezing down a bunch of connectors and cables and stuff not ideal but it's in there it's in there but that is just one of our problems the next issue is this 8-pin power connector because like i mentioned before this power supply doesn't actually have a supplemental pcie power connector now this power supply also doesn't have molex connectors for some reason um i'm not complaining because i hate molex with a burning fiery passion but it means that we can't use like a dual molex to eight pin adapter but i do have this very janky adapter which is dual sata to pcie eight pins so yeah let's let's use this and hope that the power supply can handle all of the system that we have going here and i'm also going to replace that hard drive with an ssd because i want a nice snappy system and you can get ssds for reasonable prices these days still so i think that's a reasonable upgrade oh yeah that doesn't look super janky at all it's just kind of hanging off the one screw there but it's fine it means it's in a really good position for us now now unfortunately i've had to make some sacrifices because this adapter is very short and i couldn't figure out a way that we could have storage and the dvd drive plugged in i unfortunately had to sacrifice that i mean i guess i can move the ssd up in here and then we can have both of them because then you know we'd have enough of a gap but i yeah i couldn't be asked to try this so whatever we've got the graphics card plugged in we've got our ssd so now we can fire it up and see what kind of gaming experience we get okay it is the moment of truth we get to see if that power supply can handle this system i am i am cautiously optimistic so let's see what happens with gta 5. here we're running at 1080p normal settings which is which is basically low for gta 5 and it's looking good we're getting a solid above 60 frames per second gaming experience here uh which is way better than that 400-ish dollar amazon system that was struggling to give us a playable frame rate at 720p so this is a huge step up oh those are pretty good cpu temperatures and the system is impressively quiet although it does look like that cpu is struggling to keep up with the gtx 960. and not only that but we're right up against that six gig of ram limit so i think if we put a bigger kit of ram in here it'll help us out so let me let me do a quick benchmark and then i'll throw a 16 gig kit of ddr3 in here which you can buy for for under 60 at the moment so i think it's it's a worthwhile upgrade but but let's see how much of a difference that makes oh wow okay we've immediately jumped above the six gigs that we had available to us before so even with an older game like gta 5 that just isn't enough ram uh so let's see how much that affects the performance uh it feels pretty similar to how it felt before so despite the fact that we've removed that ram capacity bottleneck it it doesn't seem to have made a huge difference so let me just run an actual benchmark so that we can get accurate numbers to see how much faster it is with the additional ram but from here on out i think considering how affordable a ddr3 upgrade is for a system like this i'm gonna keep the the 16 gigs in there for the rest of the tests oh bit of a mixed bag there but it should definitely help for the newer games now with cs go here we're doing 1080p low settings this is a bot match which with our our cpu shortcomings here is definitely going to affect the performance somewhat but even with the bots this feels really good and if you're looking for a cheap way to play cs go with your friends without having to battle input lag to the death uh yeah this is this is a good option now here i'm running fortnite at 1080p competitive isn't the most demanding map in the game but you know as far as input lag and stuff goes this this feels decent the visuals aren't on great but it it feels good and that is more important for a game like escape from taco we have a whole bunch of dead timmy's over here oh no died that means that this timmy couldn't find the extract and just died of hunger or something rest in peace little timmy now one thing that's really stood out to me uh over over all of my gameplay is that the two gig frame buffer on the gtx 960 is is definitely a problem all of the games have sat with the gpu just maxed yes gaming can happen these days at lower price points it is unfortunate that we don't have like an rx 570 in here but considering that in most of the games the cpu was the main bottleneck it means that even if we put like a 3080 ti in here we're not going to get a better gaming experience so i guess it's fine right now as is always the case with this kind of optiplex system there are caveats to it right future upgradability is a huge issue with these systems we've got proprietary parts in there so it's difficult to upgrade one part at a time and in terms of cpu performance you can get something like a like an i7 4790 which will give you uh it'll give you some more threads but that's about as far as you can go on the software side of things windows 11 is definitely not going to support a system like this so that's something to keep in mind as well is that in terms of software this is starting to become a legacy product but if you keep all of that in mind and you have your
