Here's How I'm Gonna Make My Cheap (And UGLY) Lambo Look AMAZING Again

# Restoring a Fire-Damaged 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder: A Detailed Journey

## Introduction

Dolores, a passionate automotive enthusiast, is currently working on restoring her 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, which was previously damaged by fire. In this article, we will follow Dolores as she prepares the car for body shop work by taking it apart again. This process has become a recurring theme in her channel, where she shares her experiences and projects with her audience.

## The Project Overview

The Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder is an Italian sports car that has undergone significant transformations under Dolores' care. She purchased the car in its non-running and fire-damaged state and has been working tirelessly to bring it back to life. Her main goal for this build is to ensure the car not only runs exceptionally well but also looks stunning.

## Starting from the Back: The Business End of the Car

Dolores begins her restoration process by examining the rear of the vehicle, which she refers to as the "business end." The car has fire damage on the fender and some minor bodywork issues. Specifically, there is a scratch that penetrated the Dei reflective gold layer, likely caused by a bracket.

She explains that the car was not originally designed with an intercooler in mind but had one installed later. This modification raised the intercooler slightly using rubber mounts to prevent stress points. However, this adjustment created a conflict with the existing structure. To resolve this, Dolores decided to grind down a lip on the car's frame to ensure the intercooler does not interfere with other components.

## Removing the Stock Spoiler Motor

Another key step in her process is removing the motor for the stock spoiler. The original spoiler was designed to adjust based on speed, but since Dolores plans to replace it with a Superleggera wing, the old system becomes unnecessary. She points out that every pound counts in a performance-oriented vehicle like the Gallardo and opts to remove this dead weight.

Rather than discarding the old motor, she decides to store it aside for potential resale. This cautious approach highlights her commitment to preserving valuable parts, even if they are no longer functional on the current build.

## Precision Grinding and Bolt Replacement

With the lip removed, Dolores carefully grinds down the area to ensure a sturdy fix without damaging any bolts or threads. She replaces the original bolts with M6 socket cap screws, which provide a better fit and prevent protrusion issues.

This meticulous attention to detail ensures that the car's structure remains intact and functional. The result is a seamless fit where the intercooler can move slightly without causing alignment problems.

## Testing the Fit: A Critical Moment

As Dolores reattaches the ground piece, she faces the critical moment of truth—will it align perfectly? With a bit of force, the pieces come together smoothly, leaving her satisfied with the tight gap and clean shut line. Although the fit is slightly lower than ideal due to a missing grommet, this minor issue does not detract from the overall success of the modification.

## Preparing for New Components

Dolores contemplates the future additions to the car, such as new taillights and the Superleggera wing. She plans to replace the existing taillights with 565/70 LP units, which she believes will enhance the car's appearance significantly.

## The Superleggera Wing

The Superleggera wing itself is in need of repair but has minor imperfections. Dolores considers whether to fix it or opt for a new one. Given her limited time and resources, she decides to leave this as a future project and use the existing wing temporarily.

She admits to being torn about the no-bumper look, which she finds both admireable and provocative. While she ultimately wants a clean look with an LP 570 bumper, she acknowledges that this will require functional taillights first.

## Addressing Water Ingress Issues

Dolores addresses potential water ingress issues caused by the exposed air filters near the wheels. She plans to install stock guards made of hard plastic to protect these components from moisture, which would otherwise damage the turbocharger. These guards will be fitted after body shop work is completed.

She also mentions replacing the current K&N air filters soon, as they are past their prime and could compromise engine performance.

## Looking Ahead

With the immediate tasks completed, Dolores looks forward to taking the car to the body shop for an estimate on necessary repairs. After that, she plans to focus on other projects involving her additional vehicles.

## Conclusion and Call to Action

Dolores encourages viewers to reach out via social media and email with questions, tips, or suggestions. She values audience interaction and often incorporates viewer advice into her projects. Additionally, readers can support her efforts by purchasing a "No Warranty Necessary" shirt from her Teespring store, with all profits going to charity.

## Future Plans

In the coming episodes, Dolores will delve deeper into her podcast, which is undergoing a revamp. Listeners can expect new content and insights into her world of car restoration and customization.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhow's it going guys my name is Dolores and today we are getting my cheap Lamborghini ready for the body shop by taking it apart again this seems to be a theme on my channel so if you guys new to my channel thank you so much for watching hope you guys liked it and subscribe if you like what you see this car behind me is my 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and has gone through a big transformation if you want to see more videos about this car and how I got it and what I did to it you can look at the playlist right here so the sort of Cliff Notes version of this build would be me buying this fire damaged and non-running Lamborghini and getting it to a running state but it's still fire damaged and that is what we're going to work on today see one of the main goals on this build is to make it as impressive to look at as it is to drive speaking of impressive this gives me a chance to thank and introduce today's sponsor epic games who have a little game that you guys might have heard of called fortnight now I know a lot of you guys play fortnight already since it's absolutely huge on YouTube and twitch but for those of you who haven't played it yet here's why it's so awesome it's now free to play on PC Mac PlayStation 4 Xbox one Nintendo switch and mobile devices with the ability to face off in a PvP of 100 players with structures you can build up and environments you can destroy and with jewels and squads you can play with your friends fortnight is the perfect game to play if you want to relax after a hard day of working on a fire damage Italian money pit come on my viewers can get the game by clicking the link in the video description that's right you can get fortnight battle royale for free by clicking the link in the video description right now check it out now we start as always from the back of the car because that is the business end of this car and it's also the business end of the bodywork because the car has some fire damage it has some fire damage over there on that fender but it also has a little bit of damage from the bodywork itself now what I mean is this this is a it looks like a scratch that made its way underneath the Dei reflect the gold here and that is coming from this bracket right here now the reason why is because this car was not meant with an intercooler in mind this didn't have an intercooler back here it actually had an exhaust back here and when I had the car initially the intercooler was a lot lower because it was mounted directly on this frame rail here and since the intercooler is attached to this and this is attached to the engine I don't really want the intercooler to be rigid I don't want there to be a stress point right here even though these can move just a little bit in and out I wanted the intercooler to move a little bit so I put rubber mounts on the intercooler which raised it about an inch but raising it about an inch made this possible so what I have to do is modify the car even more and I have to just take off this little lip and make sure not to hit these bolts or hit the nuts on the other side actually they're not even nut there look they're like rib nuts so I have to just grind this all the way down all the way across and this should be a nice sturdy fix so this doesn't hit our intercooler now I might even take this down I grind this down a little bit more because just just in case if this moves up or down I'll have a little bit more room to play with but we're talking about fractions of an inch here so this should be good to go that should be good to go I just have to get the grinder out and make some noise actually before I start grinding on this piece I wanted to show you what I removed from here this this guy right here is the motor for the stock spoiler now this car came equipped from the factory with a spoiler that went up and down depending on how fast you were going so I think at 70 or 80 miles an hour spoiler went up supposedly gave you a little more downforce but since we're not going to be using that we have a Superleggera spoiler going in its place this is basically dead weight and in a car like this in a car that's built for performance every pound counts so hopefully this doesn't give me any weird issues as far as functionality because I have this disconnected but this wasn't really working to begin with so I am just going to tie this off somewhere I'll just zip tie it in place and make sure this isn't fouling on anything but this is well actually this is very very expensive so maybe I can sell this I'll just put it off to the side I'm not gonna throw this out so having said that I need to just grind off right here and you can see that it comes really close to the holes and the holes of the 10 millimeter bolts that go through here I want to make sure that I don't screw up any of the threads because I think that's well these are the main mounting points I know that there's other mounting points for this but I want to make sure that I retain these so I'm just gonna do a straight cut across and then I believe this should be good okay now this is ground away and we still have enough room to put the the bolts in actually I replaced the the bolt because the bolts are a little bit proud on one side and they would protrude a little bit more than I needed to so I just got these m6 socket cap screws and they fit perfectly well so what I need to do now is just put this back on the car and hopefully we don't get any fouling and this should line up just like stock all right here comes the moment of truth is it gonna line up or is there gonna be a huge gap I'm gonna a little bit of force and oh that's nice okay so the gap is nice and tight well these these are a little loose so don't worry about this gap this can actually move around I'm not worrying about the taillights too much because I'm gonna get new taillights hopefully I can get the five 65 70 LP taillights and they look a lot better but I'm really really liking this and it went on really really nicely there seems to be a nice nice shut line now this is a little bit lower than I'd like but that's just because I don't have a there's a little rubber grommet that just goes here and it's just a little stopper so that's not a problem either but yeah this this is definitely what we needed all right so the car is dirty but when I get it to the body shop it's obviously not gonna be well after I get out of the body shop it's definitely not gonna be as dirty well hopefully not gonna be dirty at all but I want to take a look at what this would look like with the Superleggera wing so let me go get it and put it on and we'll take a look at what the future of this car will hold all right take a look at that now this is the Superleggera wing that came on the car and it's a 20-footer for sure it definitely has a lot of imperfections and rather than fixing all this I think I'm just going to be getting a new wing because this is definitely fixable and maybe I'll do it in a upcoming episode just to see how we can fix some carbon fiber because it doesn't have any egregious damage but I think that just because we don't have that much time to devote to this I'm gonna leave that as a future project and just get a brand new one this looks really really good I I dig this a lot now some people don't like the no bumper look and I am I'm of two minds so one this is pure hot boy not and I love it I love that you don't take it very seriously and it's well it's something that people can either admire or hate or both and this is it really shows off the craftsmanship of the twin turbo system that my welding Jedi Tony made so I like that but on the other hand I do want a clean car I want a clean looking car so I will have that LP 570 bumper on here at some point but I do need the taillights for that so for the reveal I am gonna have just they look like this I'm just gonna clean it up a little bit I'm gonna put the cross brace on there and a lot of you have been asking what am I gonna do with these air filters these air filters are right off this tire and if it gets wet then all that water just splashes on to this filter and it's going to go straight into the turbo and it's gonna make all this well it's gonna make all my nightmares a reality so I actually have the stock guards I will be putting them in after the body shop gets finished with the car so the stock guards are hard plastic and they do a really good job at protecting everything back here from the water coming off the tire so don't worry about that that is going to be put on before I do any sort of mileage on this car and also I'm gonna be changing out these filters I have brand new ones coming in tomorrow there K&N filters these are these are a little bit past it and they've made good power but I think new filters are or on the or on the docket so I think that's gonna be it I'm really really happy with how this turned out and I know that well it still got a long ways to go but in the next episode you're gonna see this go to the body shop we're gonna get an estimate for all the bodywork that needs to happen and then I'm gonna leave it there and then we're gonna go on to another project for a few weeks we're gonna go on to some other updates on my other cars like that one and maybe that one that one and okay we don't want to we don't want to show that one so you guys can all stay tuned for that if you'd like to contact me you can do so at the real Tavares Instagram and Twitter face with that complex as to wash and after wash at gmail.com is my email I read every single one of those emails you guys you have been giving me really good advice for this car and give me tips and tricks and ask me questions I love talking with you guys I love well wishes and just keep it up it's really really well appreciated if you'd like to buy a shirt buy one of these shirts that says no warranty necessary then you can do so at the link in my teespring store down below all the profits from all the shirts go directly to charity so I don't or me and the Lamborghini don't see a dime of that but it goes to a good cause every single month so it's a good cause and you get out you get a pretty cool shirt please I think so if you'd like to listen me talk you can do so at the podcast link down below we are recording new podcasts and we are doing a full revamp of the podcast so stay tuned for that that's gonna be a lot of fun but until next time this is me telling you that cars like this that are taking shape and
