Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X Screen Comparison (SAMOLED vs. SLCD2)
**Comparison of High-Definition Screens: Galaxy S3 and HD1X**
The author of this article has conducted an experiment to compare the high-definition screens of two smartphones, the Galaxy S3 and the HD1X. The comparison is based on a thorough analysis of both devices' displays, including their size, resolution, and sharpness.
**Display Size and Zooming Capability**
One of the key differences between the two devices is the display size. The author notes that the HD1X has a bigger screen, but this comes with an added benefit: no need to zoom in to see details clearly. "You know you don't have to zoom in so that's nice," the author says. The Galaxy S3, on the other hand, requires some zooming in to achieve clarity.
To demonstrate this, the author uses both devices' screens to display icons such as Chrome, Gmail, Play Store, and YouTube. On the HD1X, these icons appear sharp and clear without any need for zooming. However, when using the Galaxy S3, the author notes that "you don't have to zoom in at all to be able to see it um i'll say it does look a little bit uh sharper on the uh hd1x but it's barely noticeable honestly". The reason for this difference is attributed to the higher pixel density of the HD1X.
**Display Sharpness and Quality**
When comparing the sharpness of both devices' screens, the author observes that "both of them look pretty clear um you guys can be the judge as far as which one looks clear" from a glance at the screen. However, upon closer inspection, the author notes that the HD1X displays appear slightly sharper than those on the Galaxy S3.
To quantify this difference, the author uses a side-by-side comparison of both devices' screens using different icons. The results show that the HD1X has a slight edge in terms of sharpness, although "it's barely noticeable honestly". This is partly due to the higher pixel density of the HD1X, which contributes to its sharper display.
**Display Technology and Black Levels**
The author also compares the two devices' screens in terms of their display technology. The Galaxy S3 uses a Super AMOLED screen, while the HD1X employs LCD2 technology with a higher pixel density.
When testing the black levels on both devices, the author finds that "the edge is going to the super lcd 2 screen on the one x because it is brighter and it's a little bit sharper uh due to the higher ppi". However, when displaying a black background, the Galaxy S3's Super AMOLED screen produces much deeper blacks than the HD1X's LCD2 screen. "The little pixels lit up um displaying that black but on the right you know you can't even tell that the display is on" the author observes.
**Conclusion**
In conclusion, while both devices have impressive high-definition screens, there are some key differences between them. The HD1X boasts a larger screen and slightly sharper display, although this difference is barely noticeable to the naked eye. On the other hand, the Galaxy S3's Super AMOLED screen produces deeper blacks and may be preferred by those who value this feature.
Ultimately, the choice between these two devices will depend on individual preferences and priorities. If you're looking for a brighter screen with slightly better sharpness, the HD1X may be the better option. However, if you prefer deeper blacks and don't mind zooming in to see details clearly, the Galaxy S3's Super AMOLED screen is worth considering.
**Additional Notes**
Throughout this comparison, the author emphasizes that "you really have to kind of pick you know what you're looking for" when choosing between these two devices. This highlights the importance of understanding the trade-offs involved in selecting a smartphone with a high-definition screen.
The article concludes by thanking readers for their attention and inviting them to like and subscribe if they found it helpful.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys davey here from foambuff.com in this video we're doing a comparison between the super amoled screen on the samsung galaxy s3 and the super lcd 2 screen on the hc-1x so both these screens are you know hd screens meaning they're 1280 by 720 in resolution so they're 720p the difference is on the evo uh in this case or the hd1x it's 4.7 inches going diagonally versus 4.8 on the galaxy s3 meaning that this guy's gonna have a slightly higher ppi because the screen is smaller with the same resolution at 312 ppi compared to 306 so it might look a little bit sharper on this guy based off the spec sheet but we're gonna test that in real life to see you know exactly how it looks i'm gonna be testing a couple of things the sharpness obviously one um two i'm gonna be testing the brightness and uh three the blacks you know see you know which one's darker and whatnot so let's go ahead and start with the first test um we'll just do the brightness you can see it best here with this uh white background you can see definitely the super lcd screen on the hd1x definitely looks a lot brighter than it is on the galaxy s3 now keep in mind um the camcorder i have is making this look a little bit darker than this because this is brighter it kind of uh dims this one out so if i cover this you can see it gets a little bit brighter but anyway um it's picking that up for a reason meaning this one's brighter and it definitely feels like that in person i feel like this one has a little bit more of a bluish hint compared to you know this the pure white you see on the hd1x so anyway that's that let's go ahead and look at the small text over here so i'm gonna zoom out i'm using google chrome on both uh phones so i'll just go ahead and try to bring this close up to see you know how clear looks a small little text on the website so you can see you could read it pretty clearly you don't have to uh zoom in at all or when you're actually looking the phone which is a great thing about you know hd screens not only are these ones bigger but also you know you don't have to zoom in so that's nice let's go ahead and see how it looks on the galaxy s3 screen and uh same thing i mean it's very readable you know you don't have to zoom in at all to be able to see it um i'll say it does look a little bit uh sharper on the uh hd1x but it's barely noticeable honestly and that's probably due to the higher ppi but um you know maybe that's the reason why i'm seeing it because i know the ppi is higher but anyway um that's that let's go ahead and take a look at you know another or actual look at these little icons so first we'll look at the galaxy s3's icon so i just pay attention to these top icons so this is the chrome icon gmail play store and then youtube so obviously all of them look really sharp let's do the same thing over here got chrome gmail oh this time we have quadrant and then youtube so uh let's go ahead and um do a side by side well let's do uh a side by side with the youtube icon so i'm gonna put youtube up here and youtube over here that way i can bring it out nice and close we'll try to make it level so that way they're exactly the same distance apart from the camera and uh on the right is the 1x on the left is the galaxy s3 and i i mean you can see both of them look pretty clear um you guys can be the judge as far as which one looks clear um from the viewfinder what i'm looking at it does look a little bit sharper on the hc-1x but you know that just means go ahead and you know what we'll rotate the direction um we'll just look at it the other way like opposite we'll put this on actually we'll do a different icon we'll do the chrome icon i'll put this on the right side and uh this on the left and basically go this way just in case you know there's some kind of advantage the camcorder is giving it to the right side so anyway same thing so now this time on the right you have the galaxy s3 on the left you have the hdm1x and let's try to bring it closer up together so so uh really hard to tell the difference i mean obviously both of them look good as far as the pentile display on the galaxy s3 now i haven't really noticed anything as far as the quality being less i know that the sub pixels are shared where on the lcd2 screen on the hd1x they're not but really i haven't seen the difference i mean i think you'd really have to go under a microscope really um to the natural eye both of them look absolutely great you know i'll go ahead and show you the zoom in on some text and you see it looks absolutely smooth you know really sharp really nice so anyway don't really notice anything on there as far as the subtile layout and of course on here we're not going to see that because it doesn't share sub pixels so both of them you know look really sharp let's go ahead and do the black background test now so so far you know the edge is going to the super lcd 2 screen on the one x because it is brighter and it's a little bit sharper uh due to the higher ppi but let's go ahead and look at the black background so let's open up the camera app and uh you know what i'll do i'll just zoom in on both of them so let me zoom in right here so you could tell uh the black is definitely a lot darker on the galaxy s3 over here compared to how it is on the one x i mean if you look at the one x on the left um you could tell that it's on you know you see that the little pixels lit up uh displaying that black but on the right you know you can't even tell that the display is on that's because they're not uh the pixels are actually off which that's why you're getting such deep blacks with the amoled screen so anyway that is that so i mean overall you really have to kind of pick you know what you're looking for if you want the brighter screen with a little bit better you know sharpness you're going to go with the one on the hd1x if you're looking for better blacks and also you can also help your battery life because it is turning off the pixels you're going to be looking at the super amoled screen on the galaxy s3 so both of them are obviously really nice screens both are more hd but that's the comparison
